The fact that we finally get wings after not having the Crucible variant for years is so incredibly liberating

Remember how there are three butterfly types in the game? One for each of Marika and Radagon's children. Rot butterfly for Malenia, Nascent for Miquella and Kindling for Messemer. Before, everyone thought that the kindling butterfly was a reference to Melina, who in the files is called Marika's daughter, but it seems that it was actually referring to this new character all along. Melina is still definitely Marika's child though we can now assume that her father is probably not Radagon

"I am Messmer, snake charmer. You will hear this a lot. . . ."

The shield with 2 spikes is a weapon that really existed. It's called a dueling shield, it's an impractical and weird weapon that was used by both duelists (during judiciary duels). Because the weapon was not used outside duels, people usualy had no skill with that weapon, which leveled the field between the duelists, both having no proficiency with the weapon, making the duel/choice of arms fair.

Messmer is wearing a draconic knight armor

I haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that the Messmer statue for the special edition shows his cape. Which has a glyph with the dragon communion and another symbol, presumably miquella's ring.

The Bear incantation bringing back the idea from the Beta that Runebears are part Dragon is funny and amazing

Someone on reddit pointed out that the release date for the dlc was potentially dropped in plain sight in one of the story trailers for Armored Core. Check the trailer out: at then end a character says "6-21..lets get to work." Thats June 21st!

Messmer seems to wield a spear very similar to Mohg's trident, perhaps his mother is the Formless mother, maybe he is literally his son, or just a devote follower who calls her like that. Also has Dragon communion yellow eyes

9:18 these are not straight swords these are curved swords held in a reverse grip. It’s the entire time they’re holding it like that, not just the seemingly AoW animation

Messmer having all these cool Rykard/Snake, Giants flame, Dragon and possibly Mohg elemnts is so interesting to me, he sounds like a player character, like Dark souls 3s final boss who had so many different fighting styles like a player character.

The knight is not necessarily a boss, the fog wall appears as such regardless of which side you're on. Meaning that he could be a strong enemy guarding the actual boss fight, like we've seen countless of times in Souls games. Remember the Ringed Knight with the paired greatswords outside of the church of Fillianore?

Glad they gave us the Crucible wings finally, really feel that alot of these bosses/enemies will have weakness to light incantation, so faithbuilds are gonna slay. And please have that OST in the game.

That combo kick attack looks so cool. It makes me hope there is more unarmed/fist type weapons in this.

I think Mesmer is Malenia/Miquella full brother. Their Rykkard. Perhaps both of Radagons offspring sets were trios. Ranni, Radahn, Rykkard - Miquella, Malenia, Messmer.

Eurogamer posted an interview - dlc about size Limgrave. Scaling about base game end game level. 10 new bosses, 8 new weapon categories - that could be huge if not mistranslated! Imagine how many actual weapons that could be - plus news spells, new ashes maybe new summons. So hyped for this - take my money FromSoft! **edited for clarity 10 new not 10x as I said in error sorry

The attention to detail in the special edition statue is incredible, especially with the cape design. 10/10!

In the picture where you go to pre order the dlc, it looks like messemer is sitting in one of the demigod thrones like in morgotts cutscene... he very well could be a descendant of marika who turned against the erdtree who was purposely never talked about. Which would explain why there are huge gaps in between some of the chairs, maybe there were more demigods but their thrones were removed?

11:17 this isn’t a golden spike. Take a look at the rest of it. It’s a sword like the Sacred Relic Sword. He’s pulling a sacred relic sword esque weapon made of his own body out of himself

The rider fused with his horse reminds me of the Nuckelavee from Scottish folklore

Messmer could be Godwyn’s brother. Marika already shows a habit of having twins, and perhaps Messmers bloodlust could not be contained after the Erdtree ran out of major enemies. Plus he could be the “unwanted child” talked about at the impalers catacombs. Perhaps despite being Marika and Godfrey’s child he ended up taking after Radagon and Marika didn’t like a little hint of her secret getting out. So a couple reasons to banish him.

Messemer has a VERY interesting design. As far as I know the origin of the snake being a symbol of blasphemy against the golden order hasn’t been revealed and as you all know Messemer has snakes with him, symbolizing blasphemy. Another thing to note is his spear, which resembles the godskin weapons after taking a closer look. Messemer’s flame has a mix of black and red coloring which is reminiscent of the empowered godskin flame. This info all together makes me think that Messemer could’ve been the original blasphemer of sorts against the erdtree and golden order. Another thing to note is that Messemer could’ve been trapped in the shadow realm by Marika, who in the Elden Ring site it is said that Marika went to the shadow realm to do something, now assuming Messemer was Golden Order public enemy number one, Marika could’ve gone there to imprison him and seal him away. The one thing I’m not sure of is what his relation to miquella and the other demigods is and why he is wearing Draconic armor. Another thing I’ve noticed is that the old man in the portrait at the beginning of the trailer is the same character at the end of the trailer that is ripping the branching golden spear-like weapon out of itself, you can tell by the hair and the brooch and robe.

The enemy at 9:24 wields the Iron Cleaver. A weapon the misbegotten use, characters that also have ties to the crucible and the time before the Erdtree. Probably doesn't mean anything, but an interesting detail since you mentioned the crucible earlier

about the new 8 weapon classes, the throwing knives seem like a very developed moveset for a consumable or a weapon art so i think thats one of the new weapons, there is also curved swords with reverse grips and martial arts could literally be some sort of bare fisted new weapon category, same for the shield/spear mix weapon. Also when the player summons the crucible wings, none of the weapons he is holding seem related to the crucible at all, nor is he using anything which could cast spells, so i wonder how that works

The tree at the end with miquella also has lost its golden liquid/amber. Makes me think that’s one of the last cutscenes you’ll experience for sure, and it’s cool that both the erdtree and this new tree change with game progression.

Messmer is called the impaler, maybe he is the one that impaled Marika with that black/red spear thing u can see in the final boss cutscene? Also, it said in the video description that Marika and Messmer fought in this land of shadows, or I misunderstood that

1:22 looks like it could be an MTG card background, and I love it.

I think the knight at 9:50 is just like a crucible knight right before a boss just to drain all your healing. Kind of like right before the godskin duo fight with the banished knights.

If messmer is "the impailer" I'm guessing he is responsible for impaling that cloaked guy who's seen trying to remove the spear in his face.

Messmers "mother" quote instantly got me thinking of Marika. Man what a trailer that lion creature also made me think of the storm lord of stormveil

100% speculation here but what if that guy in the painting is Marikas Husband before Godfrey and that is Marika in the painting. One thing to note is that the guy is Impaled which could have been done by Messmer. It would be a sort of nice twist where Marika had a child pre bearing the elden ring. Marika gives me a lot of Cersei Lannister vibes. I will not be going outside this summer 😂 10/10

The shots of the shadow tree are absolutely epic

the spike the old man pulls from his eyes looks like its connected to the blades coming out of the sides of his ribs like a fan. You can even see them bend inwards as he pulls it

Could be worth noting that the arena at 9:50 is very similar to the Loretta arena at Caria Manor. Seems like there's gonna be a heavy focus on Caria magic.

The girl with the butterflies reminds me of Roderika. Blonde hair and she's wearing a blue variant of the crimson noble set.

you caught a lot of stuff I missed! Nicely done. You're so far the only person that I've seen point out that the man in the painting is the same guy pulling the spike out of his head.

this old man on the painting, his body is pierced by eldenring shards, but it is in the shape of that greater rune you see hanging above marikeths boss room! above the three wolves!

One thing I would add about the blue carian throne guy, he looks strikingly similar to the statues of the guy holding a staff on the Dectus lift (opposite side of the halberd statues). Second: Mesmer's spear looks really similar to the spears the smallest statues are holding on the Dectus lift

I think when the voice in the trailer says Mother while showing Messmer, it referes to the formerless mother. I think those incantation he uses are similar to the bloodflame incantations + briar of sins.

The masked woman who was sleeping amongst the St Trina lilies looks like one of Mogh’s surgeons but seems to have a connection to sleep rather than to Mogh or the Formless Morher. Maybe St Trine originally founded those surgeons and they used the sleep inducing effects of the lilies in their surgeries but then Mogh got them on his side after the shattering and basically corrupted them into what they are now.

The old man in the painting/the golden spikes looks like the old man you see in some of the statues you see around Altus--an old man standing in a tree. Like on the road north-east of the Dectus lift.

Ziostorm i was wondering before the dlc comes out if you would maybe drop a lore video and give a brief run down of the main story of elden ring and maybe sum possible connections we could look forward to in the dlc .

I just remembered that big tall giant lady that was asleep in the consecrated snowfield apostate derelict area. I wonder if she’s in the shadow realm as an npc we will ally with. Kind of how Latenna and her wolf became our friend. So excited for all the new hidden areas and quest lines and npcs

Great work, missed a few of these! Love how the 10:56 enemy looks like Ammit, the Egyptian deity which acted as an executioner in the Underworld. The branch attack also corroborates my guess that this is all tied to Godwyn as much as Miquella seeing how that Death Rite Bird uses and drops a weapon with those branches but black. Also, Messmer having two S's makes your pronunciation resemble that of a snake and ofc he has two snake tails and is totally not Rykard's son. As for 11:32, that is a dueling shield which was used in the renaissance period if I am not mistaken. Peak FromSoft worldbuilding and can't wait for the DLC!

Another quick observation, which I may be wrong about since it's a pretty small shot. When Miquella is pointing up towards the Erd Tree it's definitely in the Shadow World, as that secondary tree is there, however I don't see any of those ephemeral drapes that are skirting out around the tree in the earlier shots?

the tree at 9:43 remembers me of the two fingers, maybe they are the two fingers of Miquella grown into a tree like he did. Also this new Erdtree seems like an amalgamation between Miquella's Edrtree and the original Edrtree and Messmer's armor is fairly similar to the dragon's knight armor found in Farum Azula

I would point out too that Messmer also appears to be in armor similar to that of the drake knight armor! So perhaps there is some sort of connection there as well.

The incantation reminds me more of quills than it does roots. Which makes sense since crucible spells tend to summon body parts of various animals

What about the character parrying the boomerang? Usually we can't parry projectiles so maybe something like we got for the Maliketh boss fight or a new equipment to parry projectiles

Messmers reference to mother while wielding a flame instantly gave me the impression of him working with the formless mother aka the outer god of blood and flame worshiped by mogh. The forced of the greater have always seemed to oppose those that deal with flame (dragons, serpent, giants, formless mother, helphens ghostflame, gloam-eyed queen,...) so that might mean that theyre all connected to each other. Its technically possible that all of them are connected to one specific god that has fled the lands between mentioned in the remembrance of the dragonlord

That swamp 6:42 has yellow/golden streaks going through it, so I suppose we might end up with an actual death swamp this time, wouldn't expect less from Miyazaki (also the hills in the background here 4:45 seem to have death root growing all over them)

My theory is that Messmer’s mother is the Gloam-Eyed Queen. Aside from Miquella, she’s one of the biggest loose ends from the base game: a massively lore-significant character who has yet to get any direct allusion.

I'm surprised the first thing he went to when seeing the tarnished throwing the bomb was weapon types. Makes more sense as a spell considering there is the giant boulder throw beastial incantation or whatever

9:30 that spell reminds me of an attack animation for the scarlet witch from a game called marvel future fight where she summons butterflies and they all attack and explode on impact.

This is my second comment on the video. But I haven't seen anyone talking about the music. I really hope that it's used in a boss fight, that music is amazing!!

The new weapon at 11:30 is very similar to a 15th century duelling shield, as depicted in Talhoffer's Ms.

You missed a few things.. one being he was reverse wielding those swords.. and used quickstep I believe. Meaning it wasnt an ash of war but a new weopon wor weapon type. Also the throwing knives he was using also has potential to be new weapon type and not a throwable. Also never seen a throwable stun stun but I may ne wrong about more too moveset wise

1:22 looks like miquella and the older man beside him is wearing what appears to be morgott’s robes. The boss shown at 2:42 seems to be the same character but undead. It also mentions those stripped of gold which morgott was. There is a chance that that boss is Morgott and the one we fought was an illusion or resurrected by miquella and given the needle to block the crucible

So many nice throwbacks, to the automatic crossbow (Gael), *deathblight swamp* , and once again fighting in a field of flowers (Bloodborne comes to mind). I wonder though, that lion looks grafted and if this is a alternate reality or time travel dlc (like some people theorized), if that castle we see is some past version of Stormveil Castle in its prime

the mix between shield and twinblade is actually called a dueling shield. I think it might be a new shield or a entirely new category of weapons.

the voice clip accompanying mesmer about lordship and mother is actually a different voice to mesmer. check out the bit at the end of the trailer which references "mesmers flame".

8:03 This boss reminds me of Morgott but has been grafted. Especially with the lightning similar to Morgott’s light blades. The lion’s head also reminds me of the lion from Hoarah Loux’s boss battle.

I just noticed the big fire cage boss reminds me a lot of the Parade Master from Lies of P!

9:53 It could also mean that the knight is in front of a boss door. That wouldn't be the first that there are enemies in the way leading up to a boss door

That automatic crossbow with that armor set remind me of Warhammer 40k space marine. The area where the white boss riding the horse and the boomerang remind me of Midir arena. And I am hoping the yellow thorn the npc have in the head is a sword.

9:30 looks like the 2 fingers rooms so to me its probably the room where u talk to the 2 fingers at the round table so i feel like that whole area is gonna be the outside of it or something similar

Robinswords posted about the twin blade shield, it was a real weapon called a “Dueling shield”.

The serpent god curved sword description mentions that the sword was modelled after a long lost serpent deity, so I believe it's the serpent god.

That pointy shield is actualy a type of shield that was used in some duels in medieval europe

With all the imagery of horns and primal looking enemies, plus the floating rocks, that we're getting some time shenanigans to the time when Marika first came to take the Land Between for the Greater Will at the end of the crucible period. I know a lot of people thought the tree was the Erdtree getting taken by some kind of blight, but it looks like the Crucible tree getting taken over by the Golden sheath. We may even see and/or interact with the Gloam-Eyed Queen, who MAY be Messemer's mother.

I'm not sure if it's been pointed out yet, but in the Caria looking hall with the npc, the sconces hanging from the ceiling appear to be holding glintstone rather than purple flame

It looks like Messmer the Impaler summons Cleanrot Spears from the ground, the ones the Cleanrot Knights use

Messmers armor looks like a cross between Eleonora and mough's armour with blood flame and the spear has the same motif as mough's trident. I think they are connected to the formless mother

4:52 i actually think it looks more like a sunken down version of limgrave. the way that the erdtree is positioned plus the way that the land kind of tilts upwards towards the erdtree symbolizes to me that this is an alternative version of limgrave. its not at all as long as liurnia, and the erdtree wouldnt be placed right.

11:34 the players using a dueling shield which was real weapon used specifically for duels, armored or not. I think the next weapon types gonna be these.
