I cannot resist Yorkist content, I confess. Honestly, though, shout out toThe Spanish Princess for offering me up some fresh Lizzie content. Hope you enjoy! This will likely be the last Elizabeth Woodville / Elizabeth of York video I create.

her father was a king, her brother was a king, her uncle was a king, her husband was a king, her daughters were queens of two different nations, her son was a king (henry viii) and her granddaughter is one of the best monarchs this world has ever known (Elizabeth l). damn Elizabeth of York built a dynasty.

This occurred to me as well. Elizabeth 1 was Luxembourg/Woodville/March/York/Tudor/Lancaster/Beaufort/Howard/Boleyn. That’s one hell of a combination of very charismatic individuals.

It was said that in history that they were actually like stone made of stone especially Elizabeth Woodville since she was her mothers shadow. Elizabeth of York began to fully change when her mother passed which really hurt her many may hate Elizabeth woodville for they say she was a gold digger... but I see as if that woman blood runs through all royal veins today as well as Elizabeth of York..so let us all take a brief to enjoy these two amazing woman of history.

And what happens then if these Royal women today the ones to whom you speak of with the true royal blood that flows through these women today what should they do now? What happened to the actors that have been placed to act in there places? What happens then? History is only in the eyes of the beholder, the truth is only for those with the sight beyond the ones who think outside of the shadows.. What happens to the Royal blood line then if they speak up and act in the place of the actors??

I am a descendant of both Elizabeth Woodville and Elizabeth of York, via Elizabeth & Henry VII's daughter Mary. Her blood flows through my veins as much as the royals' veins, which is to say... not much at all, given how long ago it was. Still cool to think about though! I actually think about Margaret Beaufort, whose experience giving birth to her only child (later Henry VII) at age 13 was horrific and both she & he nearly died. It is extremely awful to think about what she went through, but had she not gone through that truly dreadful experience, Henry wouldn't have existed, wouldn't have married Elizabeth of York and neither I nor the royals as we know them for that matter would exist. It's crazy to think about the types of things that had to happen for every single one of us to be who we are today! Births, deaths, migrations, horrible things, incredible things, there's so much that had to happen.

Same! It was the most captivating, most historically accurate, and the character was the more admirable. Elizabeth of York was willingly mistress to King Richard, but Elizabeth Woodville was going to kill herself before she cheapened herself like that. And she held her hatred for the Nevilles in her heart forever. She did not allow her status and her duties to strip her of her identity. God rest her soul!

@@galwiththebraids I highly doubt Elizabeth of york was "willing" to king Richard after they highly suspected him of killing her brothers...... the only way I think she would Is if she had no other choice but cor her family to survive. Speaking strictly from the series P.O.V, and not historically, that scene when Prince Richard holds out his arms and yells, "England receive my blood" was certainly haunting, and I think in the end, from Elizabeth's point of view it was worth it but I never thought she was a wise queen compared to her mother. The actress playing the character also made her very unlikable in my opinion. Now, the same thing is true for The Spanish Princess, the actress playing that role is not very good and all the good actors have died in the season 1, even the young Henry is not very good :( But I will watch any and every medieval drama :) There aren't that many :(
@michaeldefeo1439
@michaeldefeo1439 4 года назад
I'll respond from a strictly series POV as well. You have your opinion and your entitled to it but I disagree. Just looking at the series Elizabeth of York(Lizzy) was very wise. If you watch the White Princess you see right from the first episode that both her and Henry VII are having things happening to them and are made to believe it's the other ones fault, ex) Lizzy and her family being brought to the palace, Lizzy and her family thought that Henry VII ordered it and were pissed by the way "he" did it but he didnt even know and was shocked that they were at the castle when first told bc he was originally against the match bc he knew that Lizzy slept with Richard III the night before the battle and was originally trying to think of a way to get out of it but eventually realized he couldnt. Then through the first couple episodes you see them constantly butting heads, but eventually at the end of episode 3 they basically have a heart to heart conversation and realize that they both have a lot more in common then either one of them would ever like to admit and Lizzy realizes that Henry VII had a very hard life and has justifiable reasons to do what he did if she thought of everything he went through and realized how much they were both puppets for their mothers own desires. Basically they realized that it was time to make a stand and stick together and start working as a team especially for the sake of their son Arthur. And that's what Lizzy did, she made choices that were the best option for her children. Even when she talked to her supposed captured brother Richard, she had a feeling that it might actually be him But after her discussion with him it sealed his fate. Because Richard was talking like an ignorant fool telling her that if he won the throne from her husband he could easily protect her and her children, and that was basically him sealing his fate bc it showed how ignorant he was bc he promised something that he could never honestly do. Lizzy knew that it would never happen bc when her father won the throne his rule was never secure with house Lancaster and its supporters still being alive, when her husband winning the throne and ruling after all those years, the Yorkists were still causing rebellions, so she knew that if her supposed brother Richard won the th throne it was very likely possibility that he would have her children killed to secure his rule and Lizzy and let's face no mother, could ever take that risk. So every choice she made in this series was the best choice that she could make for her children to help secure their safety, and that's why I think she was in fact wise in this series. Bc any mother has to support their children as their number 1 priority and that's what Lizzy did in each if her decisions in the series.

Her young cousin at the time, the Duke of Warwick, a boy of 10, was imprisoned all his life in the Tower. She did not ask for him to be released since he had a strong(er) claim to the throne by being the son of the Duke of Clarence, Edwards IVs brother, and designated heir by blood of Richard III. From isolation he went slightly mad. He was with Perkin Warbeck (the Pretender) when he escaped the tower at age 24 after being a prisoner for15 years and was put to death. No effort was made by Elizabeth to get him out of the tower or avoid his execution. The Tudors had a very flimsy claim to the throne and she perpetuated it. The whole claim to the throne by Henry VII was through the York line.
@crystalberry748
@crystalberry748 4 года назад
Actually the Tudors claim wasn't through Lizzie of York the marriage between York and Lancaster (Tudor) made his claim stronger but the reason he was paranoid his entire life was he came through a n illegitimate line that was not suppose to rule but did anyway because his mother deemed it his fate and her hate for the York line when Edward iv overthrew King henry vi

His mother had Lancaster blood, meaning that he did have a claim to the throne, albeit a tenuous one. His marriage to Elizabeth definitely aided his claim as it appeased the Yorkists, however Henry was careful to assert control and establish himself as the sole ruler of England. He wished to be seen as a royal individual rather than an individual married to a royal. This is evident in the fact that Henry was coronated in the August of 1485 and married in the January of 1486, which would’ve been an abnormally long waiting period and was designed to separate his marriage to Elizabeth from his claim to the throne.

@@georgiagray9716 Actually, the Beauforts who were the children of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster by his third wife and former mistress Katherine Swynford indeed had royal blood and were legitimated (by extension all of their descendants) by the duke and then by his nephew King Richard II and Pope Boniface IX but the king had them specifically barred from the line of succession to the English throne. This made the Beauforts, technically royals but cannot inherit the crown unlike the Yorks. Fun Fact: Lady Margaret Beaufort's father John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset was actually first cousin to Cecily Neville, Duchess of York (Lady Margaret's grandfather John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset and Duchess Cecily's mother Joan Beaufort, Countess of Westmorland were siblings and children of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster)

@@roden70 Good im glad you have seen it. I'm not sure why she is disliked today. Maybe its because she did indeed switched factions as you pointed out which would make her a defector or traitor to some or untrustworthy. However I personally think she was securing her own future and that of her children. She was very successful for the most part as you know and had great influence and power which was rare for a woman in those times, especially if they were not from a noble family.
@SilverStagChannel
@SilverStagChannel 3 года назад
I would argue that a lot of it is sexism. At the time and today, the fact the Elizabeth was a scheming woman who strategically acted in the name of power (rather than always for maternal motives) makes her easier to villanize. Even today, power-hungry women are not usually characterized positively and society prefers to see women in maternal/caring roles.

They make up some stuff to keep the audience interested otherwise you would be watching a history class movie like from high school or college. Unlike son obsessive Henry vii who only cared about getting heirs because his family line was not as close to being legitimately on the throne.
