Saw Emmylou in concert (along w/ John Prine) last night in Huntsville. She put on a great show singing many of her greatest hits. She has to be one of the most centered, unpretentious performers I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Totally connected w/ the audience and had some pretty funny lines. About her song 'Red Dirt Girl', she introduced it by saying that she had an idyllic childhood, unlike a lot of country singers, so she had to just make up the lyrics about growing up poor.
I have been an Emmylou fan going back to the Gram Parson years. Its amazing that she was such an extraordinary beauty in her 20's, and is still an amazing beauty in her 60's. And her musicianship only improves as the years go by.
She seems to be the one who is always at the right place at the right time with the right people. Such small voice but uses it so well is our Emmy Harris.
Her best version of this is on the "Roses in the Snow" album. When Skaggs comes in singing his part, it's a cold chill raising experience, never forget the first time I heard it.
What a touching message from you; know he is missed worldwide. He was a friend to me and very supportive through the years. What a gentle, wonderful soul. Thank you for posting this, and my heart sincerely goes out to you and your family. I know he will be missed. God bless. Pam Gadd / Nashville
Love Emmy Lou! Her voice is beautiful and the choice of the songs she sings is richly meaningful. My favorite song that she sings is now Wayfaring Stranger .
Sweet Emmylou you really do sing like an angel. The world is a much better place with you here dear woman. You keep getting better and better. G-D Bless You and may you stay FOREVER YOUNG!
EMMY IS THE BEST COUNTRY ARTIST EVER, SHE DOESN'T FOLLOW ANY TRENDS, SHE SPANS THE WHOLE SPECTRUM FROM PURE COUNTRY, TO FOLK, BALLADS, BLUEGRASS.....SHE'S JUST FLAT OUT AWESOME.......LISTEN TO HER TILL I DIE....
It's been 3 years since I posted my comment, and I am glad you replied. It gave me another chance to hear her again! She sings lovely because she is lovely. We love her.
This music is the heart of America so simple and deep. Many wellspring have come from this source. It takes a special person to hear all that is given here. I love all kinds of music well done including this piece. Allowing others the opinion not to like it is alright too
Listening to this song prickles nostalgic memories of a village where I grew up as a child. Our folks in BALBALASANG, a beautiful village in the Northern Philippines sing a lot of Emmylou Harris'songs including this one. Thank you for posting this.
we are sharing this clip today on facebook, as we mark the passing of our uncle; Mike Auldridge, who completed his darkest hour around dawn today. Rest in peace uncle Mike
This is one of my favorite songs. This 2002 Remaster is faithful to the words sung by Ralph Stanley, the author of the song. Search of the lyrics does not give words that quite match. The refrain, which gives the song its title, is sung twice. In the Internet version, the refrains are identical. In the version sung by Ralph and Emmy Lou in the 2002 version, the first refrain says "Lay down your soul, let Jesus in". The second refrain says "Lay down your soul at Jesus' feet. Is there anything that occurs to you about this difference?
As much as i love and grew up with Bessie, Skinny Minnie sounds great!! (Bessie is Tom's regular carved wood bass, Minnie is the travel bass) What a great band
ONLY IF WE REALLY WORKED OUT , LIKE WENDY SAID TO ME , SORT IT OUT , , I KNOW YOU BOTH LOVE EACH OTHER , AND SHE IS RIGHT , THERE IS ALWAYS A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR YOU , LOVE ALWAYS UR GLEN xxox
My dear Emmylou. How have you been doing? Long time no see you. I really would like to see you. Why don't you come here some day? I will be waiting for you my darling. Kisses and hugs.
@Scanjoon Are you saying that people who like punk and/or rap have no taste in music? I like both of those genres I like this too, so what do you say about me then?
i second that if entertainment is her making innuendo and insulting every contestant, there must be a way to avoid paying the TV licence (aside from not watching tv of course...) but this is what more music should be like though
the Spirit and the bride say come quickly Lord Jesus....comfort yourselves with the words of scripture as wickedness increases world wide.watch and pray.accept Jesus as your God and saviour and show evidence of being born again,by having a change of mind and heart, whereby the heart was the worst thing to God and people, but now the best.
Don't hold your breath. They've just paid Anne Robinson millions of £s of OUR MONEY to do that shitty Weakest Link for the next 10 years. Christ. That's entertainment?! Great music BTW!
