I am so excited!
For the first time we have a fully mobile two trailer tiny house that is actually enclosed. Swinging walls, sliding roof and a floor.
I am starting to believe we can do this. I have been building this house not really sure if it was going to be possible.
This part of the build has forced me to put a LOT of thought into the finer detail of how this thing is going to seal up. Working thought that detail and building it into the walls/roof I can kind of see it might just be possible.
But the devil is in that detail. There is some pretty complicated work ahead to get those seals and flashings working just right so that the weather stays on the outside and it's cozy on the inside.
Next step is to finish wrapping the house so that it is weatherproof and I can start moving onto my windows.
Don't hate... educate, and go build cool stuff.

I really love the window focus. That sliding roof because its something I've been considering. I really like a skylight roof to bring the outside feeling in. I know that's not the intent but I do like the idea. The swinging doors look so smooth I giggled and I have a grin from ear to ear. I just love smooth engineering.

Yeah it was something I gave a lot of thought to. Even moved windows after I had built the walls based on how they look. I did get a bit carried away with windows in the living area but they will look awesome so I have got over that haha.

I know there is still plenty of work to do but she is looking brilliant now. You've done a great job. I completely love the micro tiny house so I can't imagine how amazing this one is going to be. I've been following the tiny house movement for many years now and there is nothing like like your build. So original, so complex. Glad to see you got her all covered up before the inclement weather sets in. Looking forward to he next update! Many thanks!

it is at an exciting stage and things look to fit well. Paying attention to insulation and vapour will pay off down the road. I took a course on tight house construction and the details really matter. Your sit/stand desk will no doubt be an engineering marvel with the complications hidden to make it look easy!
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse

Yeah it's a lot of fun to see it starting to fit together. Still so much detail in the seals though. Oh that would have been interesting. I have just been trying to stop heat transferring through the perimeter of the house as much as possible and try to think through condensation. Haha if I can pull off the desk it'll look pretty darn cool ;)

@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
Still not a believer Jodie? I am working on the windows at the moment and then I move onto the cladding and getting this thing sealed up. I am getting increasingly confident we'll be ok. I am making sure my box gutter has more than enough drainage for the surface area. But it might not work. We'll see how it goes. Sealing up the sliding roof and swinging wall though, that will certainly be an epic challenge.

@@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse I sure am a believer. I want to see how well that engineering holds up :). I want to see it be all warm and cozy inside during an intense downpour. Feeling warm and safe inside during intense weather is a great feeling. I have been through 5 years of persistent leaks in my apartment and 3 rounds of carpet drying and carpet replacement. That experience leaves you worried every time it rains. Thankfully it seems to be fixed finally, after they removed the balcony tiling and repaired the waterproofing membrane. It makes it harder to go through this when I have a construction qualification and I know how things "should" built.

I actually love the candor and you pointing out potential challenges with the design. It helps me create a better build and hold me accountable to make sure I come up with a design to make this house work. That must be so frustrating. Box gutters really are a recipe for disaster as you are capturing water inside of the structure as opposed to deflecting it away. We are only a couple videos away from the one on the box gutter so I am keen to hear your thoughts when I share what I have done. I am giving some thought to how I can test it out too ;). Love the input :)

Haha you didn't? You are a champion. I'll try keep them coming regularly for you. Nah my excitement came a bit earlier as they started coming together. It was soooo good to see those walls and roof work together. I am chuffed with how they have come together but they have unearthed new challenges in sealing them up too. Still working on it.

@EmuMan44

phenomenal Would be great to see an insight into your planning process. Sketches? CAD? just how you go about it. For instance, how on earth id you plan to the swinging wall frame height to give enough depth for all the layers of roofing/batten/structure/clad etc etc. Crazy. Amazing work, well done :)
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
Thank you Lee. I have had this question a lot and I am afraid the answer is somewhat underwhelming. I don't have any plans, it's all just in my head. I am working it out as I go. For example the roof for the join was originally external and was hinged from the side trailer and swung over the the top of the walls. I have no idea how I was ever going to lift it though haha. It is all one related system. The height of the sliding roof actually came from the height of the roof for the main trailer. I needed to make sure that had enough height for fall and a box gutter. The sliding roof had to then be the same height externally, internally it had to retract in over a 2.4 ceiling. The swinging walls needed to swing in under the end of the main trailer so had to be shorter than the height I had worked out for the roof. That governed the height of the sliding roof which in turn set the height of the roof for my side trailer that had to house the sliding roof. Haha I am sure that barely makes sense. The process is honestly getting the materials I am going to use and stack them on top of each other in place and see how it all fits. Really the answer is LOTS of trial and error. I have become the king of rework hahahaha I have been getting questions for a plan you guys can see as I am going so I'll give that some thought to help make it a bit easier to follow
@zacdredge3859
@zacdredge3859 3 года назад
You never cease to amaze. The detail of the connections is actually more impressive than the overall mechanisms. Could put the downpipe from the box gutter internally, make it transparent and have a fish tank below. This build clearly isn't ambitious enough already, hahaha. Do you have a plan to enclose the second trailer(which the roof slides from) when it's in transit? That does seem to be the downside of both doors being in the other.
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
Thanks man. Been a lot of work to get it to this point. Haha bring a downpipe inside to an open tank? In a house that travels. You are crazy. I wouldn't even do that one haha. The side trailer is actually going to have a wall in that opening with two doors. So it won't be a huge issue. I am looking at something to cover it during transit though. Just for peace of mind.

Somehow I missed this when first posted. It's coming together quite nicely. My only questions at this point are: Where is the inside hot tub going and will the bar be easily accessible while remaining in the hot tub?
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 3 года назад
😂😂 hot tub goes in the join of the two trailers. That's why I have a removable floor. It'll cover up when not in use. No bar had to leave it out in favor of thy sauna 😝
