Excessive extension in the upper back and retraction in the scaps can lead to some deficiencies in a hitter's load. Getting to neutral or even slight flexion in their thoracic spine frees up the front arm and puts the hands in a better position to launch. It also acts as a sort of counter movement as the thoracic spine will extend as part of the launch. Hitters who are stuck in extension and retraction can address it by adding couple simple exercises to their strength program.
