With so many insufferable pseudo-intellectuals in this case, it was refreshing to see Samantha easily admit to not always understanding Alex’s philosophies. Real confidence looks like having nothing to prove.

One of the most annoying things about this defense is that they misrepresent the meaning in Alex's "essays", reading small snippets. Yet, if you read a few words or sentences before ir after those snippets, you'll see that Alex was saying exactly the opposite. Every.single.time!
There was only one person when I was there. But I got there at 10:00 am and I don’t think many of their customers are employees are up at such an ungodly hour.
Ezra reminds me of Jodi Arias and Casey Anthony. They all lie so effortlessly , nothing they do is ever their fault, they love to play the victim, they crave attention and they think they are smarter than everyone else.
I completely understand the defense attorneys have a job to do but there’s a few times Ezra is very smug with her defense team as well theirs. I feel like the unprofessional to another level is through the roof.
When briana got on the stand she looked like she was crying. The only sign of emotion I really saw other than smugness. She was smug the entire trial. She was really acting like everything was a joke almost. As if she was retelling a fond memory she had. It was disturbing.
Ezra enjoyed being the center of attention at her trial. I think she is way more crazy than evil. The thing is, crazy can be worse than evil. Ezra is dangerous because she is crazy. Of course, the categories are not mutually exclusive. She could be both. I didn’t think she acted “smug”. I just thought she was enjoying herself.
Every time I hear "controlling" in reference to how Ezra described her relationship with Jason, all I think is _"It's not exaxtly Handmaids Tale to wish that your partner didn't openly flirt with other people right in front of you..."_ or, you know, be _super_ close with two of your friends, have them all hang out together, *AND* sleep with them 🙄
I think she did and said a lot of things so she could have an excuse to be with other people- I think she probably was very narcissistic and wanted “ relationships” with either sex. She wanted everyone to love her but she had no idea who she was. She appears to have manipulated everyone she knew. She continue to do it on the stand , pretending to have tears at particular times with particular people, like she believes she still has an affect on them.
Exactly. Reminding her to be the (young) adult she is and pitch in her financial share of supporting herself, and not wanting your gf to hookup with your friends, is not "controlling." She was the one who was manipulating and controlling others.
@@Winter-Lake If anything I think he was trying to _help_ her grow up a little bit. Not being as "demanding" as her parents allegedly were, but to not just keep allowing her to take advantage of people.
@@allib4921 Yep. Seems like it. I think it may be safe to say that I bet her parents probably weren't unreasonable either. Probably like most normal parents, wanting their young adult daughter begin to take basic responsibilities for herself, for her own sake. But, also have to wonder, how does she get to 19 and utterly lacks any responsibilities and accountability? Sound like her mother did the right thing, though. She evicted her from her home. Sounds like she was offered a place to live there but had to also fulfill her part, otherwise has to go. Just like any other real life situation. If we don't pay our mortgage or rent, we can't stay.
I’ve been wondering that since he was on the stand. He needs to get a life. Maybe it makes him feel smart and knowledgeable hanging out with such younger people.
When I watched his testimony he didn't know her age for the beginning of the relationship. But still date someone that young get a bunch of drama, he learned the hard way.
That make defense attorney has to be one of the creepiest guys I have ever seen. That creepy smile as he attemots to try and convince people he is on their side. Ugh
I can’t imagine sitting there in the first place, but to be in that courtroom knowing that not only does the family of your victim despise you, now your former friends also hate your guts. I couldn’t do it, but she just sits there cold af. It would absolutely break my heart to know that people who once cared about me are now disgusted by my very existence. As soon as i saw her i was jealous she looks so pretty with minimal makeup. i feel bad for these people who are thrust in the public eye just due to having to be around this by chance.
I feel as though Alex Woodworth was 'taken' with Neitzsche's philosophy. Had he lived a bit longer I think he would have outgrown nihlism - so many philosophy students seemed to be impressed with "Man and Superman'... Almost all the ones I knew developed a more optimistic nihilsm and went on to enjoy productive, meaningful lives. It's just so sad Alex never got that opportunity.
His reflexions on philosophy didn't seem to affect his actual life as a member of society. He was a scholar and a thinker, but to the ones around him he was gentle considerate and ready to support. According to virtually everybody who knew him (except for the treacherous killer Monica) he was a quiet harmless young man, and not a selfish callous nihilist, despising people around him.
Agreed. Nietzsche's philosophies are more of a bridge than a final destination. It falls apart metaphorically, for most people, forcing passage on to more sophisticated ideas. In clear terms, it seems to denote immaturity or simply youth. Rest in peace, Alex.
The judge explains his rulings more than a lot of judges I’ve seen. The ones I’ve seen say “over ruled” or “sustained” and leave it at that. So it’s interesting to hear the thought process that goes into ruling on an objection.
I think he’s leaning way more with the defense than the state honestly. It makes me kinda angry that he still rules with the defense when people are stating their own opinions or reading text that make it’s no longer hear say but factual
@@yepisaidit1855Although…the one pro here is that by doing so, the defense has fewer opportunities to claim there should be a mistrial… or file other file various petitions even after the (now) guilty verdict. The more explanation of process by the court and judge regarding rulings leaves less wiggle room after the clear conviction. I agree in the one sense, but for the sake of the long game (aka lock her up and throw away the key) I’m apt to agree with the judges approach here. In addition, following the conviction and during sentencing, I found his commentary the most robust and just weighing of the facts if the case and considering what it means to have “justice” be served. Made me want to become an attorney (I’ve considered it before) in order to one day become a judge. Honorable profession…especially when undertaken with care, skill, and respect. I applaud the honorable judge.
@@Seeker0fTruth I did not even give that a thought. Thanks for putting that into perspective. That’s an awesome view point and I will now have to agree. I am so pleased that the jury did not let her sob story win them over Like so many others did.
I find it ironic that the defense was trying to keep out a set of text messages where Alex is literally talking about the defendant yet they had no problem reading his journal entries that don’t pertain to anyone in particular. Being allowed to read those journals entries out loud the way he did, essentially providing testimony, should’ve been shut down immediately and just like the prosecution asked they should’ve been shown to the witness first before being read aloud. That came off as sleezy and underhanded
Sleazy and underhanded pretty much sums up the defence. They wanted to keep out the text messages because they are very revealing about Ezra. Plus, they were more than happy to characterise the deceased as violent but want to disallow any testimony concerning him being peaceful. And any testimony about Ezra's sexual antics are, strangely, 'irrelevant' because they show her to be self-serving and dishonest.
So far the guy on the defense side seems more seasoned at this over the prosecution. Just on the amount of objections, prosecution look like amature hour.
Because Ezra was a lying murderer. Now she is a murdering inmate who probably still lies to this date. They tried to say a Philosophy writing meant he wanted to eat people because he used the word cannibal. She was a whore who used men like napkins. Terrible lying trouble making murderer.
This judge is an idiot. He literally doesn’t know the law and gets bamboozled by the defense attorney. It’s so frustrating watching him rule Willy nilly.
It appeared that sleezy and underhanded is no problem for the defense team in my opinion. They are definitely the team to go to if you need an undefendable person defended! Kinda like Jose Baez. 😂 just my opinion;)
I like Brianna. She seems gentle and low drama. I especially loved her reaction when defense had the temerity to ask her if cutting is common in her circle in that patronizing, know-it-all tone of voice. He was a dick and she stood up for herself.
She seems a bit unhinged, herself. Cutting as self-help is *never* a good method for healing! Been there, done that. For her to tell anyone to “go ahead, it’ll release pain!” is pure wrong. ❤️🍀
The defence attorney spends a lot of his time putting words into the mouths of witnesses. A slimy bugger who wants to characterise everyone but the murderer as evil. He knows full well that Ezra stabbed Alex SIXTEEN TIMES, but wants to show Alex as the aggressor. He TELLS Brianna several times that she saw Jason after she tells him that she saw Alex. He appears to be angling at Jason killing Alex, which is ridiculous! During his objection, the attorney states that Ezra' making a sexual allegation was false. The ALLEGATION was false, but she DID make it. It's always funny to me when they make you swear to tell "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth", then prevent you from doing so. Apparently, you can slander the victim, but you can't defend his character. The last four words of the defence attorney's opening were; "That's who he was!" He's a liar.
People in the comments dogging these witnesses are awful. They're just regular young people. They were all friends and didn't ask for this. What the hell is wrong with all of you?
What’s interesting is supposedly Ezra had a lot of anxiety and had to do breathing exercises yet Brianne I think is her name… Ezra called her wifey, she is clearly struggling on the stand, but yet we saw none of that with Ezra
The fluidity in her sense of self - male/female, changing her name, she would change her style, she would change her makeup and she's recently changed her hair color to platinum blonde in prison This is a very strong borderline personality trait. I wonder if she's ever been diagnosed.
That’s not borderline personality disorder. Low self worth, no sense of self, fears of abandonment. Those are very clear signs. Not someone being confused on their gender identity. Which I don’t believe Ezra was. I think she wanted attention any way she could get it. She definitely has issues but borderline personality disorder isn’t one of them. She’s actually a narcissist and maybe a sociopath. Considering she killed a kind person just to try to get a man her fathers age back
@@lilm6259 No, I'm not talking about the gender identity, specifically. And for the record, I believe she's absolutely a narcissist & a psychopath, who has BPD. That's just my opinion Listen to Samantha, Alyison & Brianna's testimony about Ezra and also the fact that she would "cut herself" to relieve emotional pain, according to these friends, -another thing that starts to look like BPD and she may very well have clear cut traits that we don't know about. Maybe she does some splitting. Maybe she does have explosive anger ? A friend of hers. testified in this trial that she would sometimes drastically change her makeup the way she looked, her hair....even her beliefs, and the way she kind of floated in and out of things, college and jobs. Those are things that look like an identity disturbance, not the gender stuff, although that's part of it and the changing her name that also goes along with it. I'd be interested to know if a psychologist ever diagnosed her with anything Ps Look at the way she's presenting at this trial according to the people who know her. This is a different person. The person appearing here, the way she's dressed the way she appears to be. She's a bit of a chameleon
@@lilm6259 for the record, no one's made a correlation between gender identity and BPD. I just want to make it clear that I was not indicating that at all
She does not have BPD. Maybe narcissism or antisocial personality disorder. She killed him out of anger because she couldn't control him or because she thought he was the "problem" in the way of her getting back with Jason or wouldn't help her with getting him back. It wasn't out of fear of abandonment. It was anger. I think a lot of young, college-aged kids try out difference personalities when trying to figure out who they are. That's not exclusive to BPD. I know people with BPD who have looked the same since I have known them, for years. She's just a psycho.
@@takeitbreezy according to her friend's testimony and Jason's police interrogations, she has at least five BPD traits, not including the identity fluidity. So in my opinion, she's all three. She's narcissist absolutely. She's a psychopath. Those are the traits that killed this man but I think she also has BPD. Most people with BPD wouldn't even hurt a fly, so I'm not implying that the BOD is what made her violent
The defense lawyer comes off super creepy & arrogant and if I were on the jury I definitely would have a bias against him & the points he tries to make.

it's such an interesting case, if not for the unbearable attitude of Ezra's lawyer... I really dont like this man, fake smile, constantly arguing for no reason, very unpleasant lawyer and it's a pity.
She's the only one who doesn't seem like a huge poser. She seems actually genuine and kind. I can only imagine she saw Ezras red flags well before hand
I just got to the part where she’s being cross examined by the defense, so far I really like her demeanor while answering. she’s not bullshitting about anything!
Alex's writing is completely irrelevant. It shouldn't be allowed to be included because we don't know if they're autobiographical, fictional or philosophical.
Lolol the examples of writing and art I've seen is so mediocre and unoriginal. Maybe it's because they are youngins and I'm in my 30's, but yeah so much ego
@@Roswell33yeah the art from Ezra is definitely mediocre at best, but I think Alex was talented with words. if he was alive I can only imagine how far he would have gone. maybe it’s because I’m comparing him to the people in my age range (I’m 25), but most people I know don’t write or even think as philosophically as Alex did. he might not have been as such a grand writer, but he was a good kid…
@@rizumu-8937eh…it’s nothing anyone with a first year philosophy class couldn’t write. Not trying to be negative or nit picky, just giving an opinion. And you know what they say about those. He seemed like a troubled kind of kid who had a lot of thoughts ruminating around in his head and he was a thinker. Which to me is always cool. So who cares if he had a future in writing or not, he didn’t deserve such a fate, and had he been given the chance, and with more exposure to literature, he could have been great. Who knows. It’s a shame.
@@rizumu-8937 I think being "talented with words" means you can express your thoughts clearly and concisely, which is kind of the opposite of Alex's writings. He did seem like a good person thought and I'm sorry this happened to him.
I almost fucking gave up knowing about this case completely because I can’t stand it anymore. They had to completely halt when ezra was on the stand because someone was coughing so bad they had to get water. Like Jesus Christ I bet you it’s the same person the whole time. Why the fuck wouldn’t they get rid of said person.
Ezra seemed a little emotional when Brianna took the stand and I wonder why. I wonder if it's because Brianna was one of the people that believed Ezra longer than some of Alex's friends did.
There's a whole lot of penis in the world, do you really have to shop for one (or two) in your boyfriend's friend's list? So, she effs two of his close friends, but then she's also running around telling anyone who will listen that Jason is controlling and toxic. HE is toxic!! Then, when she gets caught, rather than face the consequences, she lies and says both of them SA'ed her. Granted, Jason encouraged her to report them, but SHE knew it wasn't true, yet rather than take the L on the relationship, she marches her butt down there and lies on both of those men to the police. Then, yet again when she wants to "get back together" with the boyfriend she cheated on, and who SHE broke up with, she kills one of the men she was effing. And then YET AGAIN says he assualted her, and that he often assualted her. This woman is an absolute monster, far beyond the Single White Female, or Fatal Attraction characters. She is a major threat to society, and it's disappointing that the judge gave her ANY shot at parole ever! You know, given that she refused to let Jason go inside with her at the clinic, I'm not even positive she actually ever had an @b@rtion. She's manipulative and scummy enough to do absolutely anything it takes to get what she wants. I trust nothing she says.
Those men are also assholes for sleeping with their friend’s girlfriend. Alex is the victim and he didn’t deserve to die obviously but Jason was his friend and it was a dick move to sleep with his girlfriend. He talked about wanting to “help” her, how exactly would that help anyone? Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he was an angel. I’ve met these types of men who consider themselves so caring but their “help” is much more self serving than it seems.
@breakinghands10 of course, you're not wrong, those men were wrong too. That's messed up to do that to a friend. I would never even think to do that to someone I care about.
These two ladies did great. They obviously never thought they’d be questioned at a murder trial. (who would??) Ezra/Monica staring daggers doesn’t help.
The defense attorney is so underhanded and took every opportunity to read Alex's journals purposely out of context. It's disgusting. I don't understand why the prosecution didn't object when the defense repeatedly told Brianna "you saw Jason" and she said "I saw Alex" and why he stated cutting was common in her friend group....WTH?! I don't understand why the Judge lets the defense ask questions regarding someone's character and opinions but doesn't allow the prosecution to do the same. They have the burden of proof.
it's disheartening to listen how Samantha talked about Alex and how kind he was only for the defense to try and taint his character while the prosecution`s trying to preserve the victim`s life and legacy, the only objective of the defense was to make it seem like he was a maniac sexual deviant monster. Reading his journals as facts, even though everyone knew he was a philosophical writer in most of them, is horrible because that was all there was left of him. I know the defense is doing their duty of that, but it`s particularly horrible to present these things as facts and try to prevent the prosecution from making pertinent questions to the witnesses is ridiculous tbh
I know and it's such bs because I know tons of people my age (33 so I'm a millennial) and older who cut and burned themselves. Mostly females, mostly during teenage years or early 20s
So defense can destroy the victims reputation by calling him a rapist etc yet prosecution cannot have anyone say he was the opposite to what the killer said. Believe all women lol!
Why, what is so wrong with Samatha? I'd say your comment is about yourself. viz "If you wake up a meet an arsehole, you met an arsehole. If everyone you meet is an arsehole, you're the arsehole." You're the one writing nasty things on social media about people, not them.
She reminds me of a college aged daughter of a friend who apparently flipped out and was in tears about my sexist behavior. What did I do? I held the door open to my house when she and a friend came over to check out my boat dock.
That whole bar sounds like a nightmare to me😂. I can’t imagine spending time with a group of regular people who all believe they’re profound and deep. Just the thought of it makes me feel restless💀
Amen. Outside of of a couple people almost this entire group seems to be rogue's gallery of mental health issues. How many cutters can fit in one coffee shop?
I keep watching this trial to figure put why Ezra killed this young man - the more I watch the less sense it makes. What in the world was her motive? "Look, I killed for you, love me Jason?". Sounds ridiculous, yes, but why did she seek out this ex partnert & kill him? Makes no sense, but of course killing. someone never does make any sense .😔 She's so young and all she has to look forward to now is a jail cell. She was more disturbed than people realized.
There isn't a logical excuse for murder in situations like this. I know society, led by the medical profession, like to use the excuse of 'mental health', etc, blah, blah, blah, but it's far simpler than that. It's hatred combined with emotional immaturity, while living in a nation that has such a low value for life (gun ownership anyone!?!), enhanced by a media that generates paranoia, and a society and government that put so much value on personal wealth and gain, which inadvertently highlights the worthlessness of the less fortunate/wealthy/educated, and those with fewer potential prospects. The 'mental health' 'issue' is born from society, the environment people are exposed to. There are billions of people in the world who live in far less wealthy/caring nations/communities, with zero prospects, education, standards of living who have a million more reasons to suffer the 'mental health' issues of a first world, rich, developed nation. Everyone hates something or someone; but people with a little common sense and emotional maturity, that puts some value on life, walks away or ignores what angers and upsets them. You're absolutely right, as a young woman with a potentially bright future ahead of her, she's completely thrown away her life. But the same is true of every murderer.
Ezra's lies were going to crash out bad. She had made a fake grape accusation against somebody in her friend group. Alex knew this was false and he wasn't going to support her lie. This meant that Jason was about to learn what type of woman Ezra was. Her entire reputation within her friend group was in tatters. She'd destroyed Jason's baby and he didn't want her anymore. She didn't want to move back in with her father, who, in his own words, didnt' even want her to drive. She couldn't hold down a job or pay her own rent. She needed to re-exert control over her group, and the easiest way she thought she could wiggle her way back into control was to murder Alex.
It was all about contolling her little tribe of enablers. Alex was the uncontrollable member that was causing that tribe to disintegrate, and in her mind he had to go so that she could return to manipulating them individually to her best advantage.
Every single person I have ever met who identifies as "nonbinary" or is male one day and female another has had the same effect on those around them as Ezra had on her social network. These individuals are almost always some flavor mix of cluster -B and cause chaos, confusion, and division wherever they go. I am not speaking of trans individuals. I am speaking about specifically "nonbinary" individuals from about a decade of anecdotal observation. For these individuals, identifying as nonbinary is about gaining power and control over others by constantly shifting the goal post and telling others that they control objective reality.
I got the impression the Judge was being careful not to give too much ground for appeal and that is why he was upholding lots of the defences objections. The problem for the defense is not only did it come across as them wanting to hide information because they objected so often but also the tone of the objections was bordering on rude.
I have been dying to say that the term "erotics" that Alex and Ezra used extensively, Ezra even doing so on the stand, is not a word. Erotica or Eroticism is, and maybe this is hair splitting but the misuse and misunderstanding of this term is weirdly enraging.
@@purplecleoyeah, doesn't mean it isn't completely annoying to you, but I'm emphasizing it bc it is at least "academically" accurate to the people who want to discuss things in that way. think Alex is smart, deep inside baseball/philosophy, and ran into a bad person.
Her attorney is the most ingenuous person ever. He fake smiles all the time, condescending and annoying. He is really good at trying to make witnesses appear less qualified and small in stature. He must be a real joy in his relationships.
Wow, at around 40 minutes in, I noticed Ezra go through a whole journey trying to hold back tears, and by the end of it only manages a wobbly icy stare. There must have been something deep between her and Ezra. Guess I’ll find out soon. I paused the video to write this 🙈
