FACTS & MYTHS - NIKE AIR ZOOM ALPHAFLY NEXT% V1 & V2 | EDDBUD
I was one of the very first shoe-tubers to review the NIKE AIR ZOOM ALPHAFLY NEXT% back in 2020. Now with the release of the NIKE AIR ZOOM ALPHAFLY NEXT% 2 i see lots of mediocre reviews with very little detailed information about the shoe, people quoting about supposed differences in the arch, incorrect information surrounding the AIR ZOOM pods and inexperienced and biased views about the shoes use and potential benefits to ALL RUNNERS.
Today i have for you some RESEARCHED FACTS and i go BUSTING MYTHS around these superb running shoes which can benefit ALL RUNNERS.
The study on running economy can be found here.

I agree the AF last for ages. I must admit my first pair of Vaporfly V1’s lost its midsole magic around 300 miles. I ran my first marathon in a pair of Alphafly with over 300 miles and they ran like a dream. I’ve kind of retired them at 350 miles, as I’m lucky enough to have another new pair of V1’s and now the V2’s. Fantastic shoes.

By all accounts of that study they were still better than almost all other shoes in terms of running economy.

I don’t know why, but it it seems no one thought about a simple and old solution to put an Alphafly on easily. Simply use a shoehorn! I’ve been doing this since the very first moment I bought this model, and it made putting this shoe on a piece of cake! PS: I’m an age group triathlete and use this trick when training bricks (a training you pedal for a time and transition for a run), and it works as a perfect solution.

Maybe it's just me, but getting the Alphafly on my feet was hard only out of the box, cause then, using both pull tabs, it's been a super easy task. On the other hand, getting the AAAP 2 on foot has been a nightmare from day one until the last time I checked (yesterday☝🏻🤣). Great video!

I have 100mi now in my original pr and various miles in other prs..at 100mi the outside rear strip has smoothed out ,but not worn thru..apparently my foot strike is off a little on that side and I see it on all my shoes,regardless of brand or model..I don't untie my alphafly's and just push off and pull them back on..I often change the insoles and socks while running and twice switched them during a 1/2 marathon race..only takes a few seconds and I wouldn't see any reason why triathletes couldn't also do it..I really don't see any reason to have shoe laces at all..I love that the shoe feels so great that you don't need to crank down the laces..as far as woman sizes,I have both and pick my shoes more on color and sale price more than who they're made for..at 1/3 of all my shoes are women's..I'm sure if it's true or not, but I met a guy running the new Adidas adios pro 3( to him its better than the vaporfly) told me he was surprised I was using the alphafly and he was told by a top nike athlete claimed that for people under 160lbs the vaporfly works good but if you are heavier than that or if you're a hard pounder you would probably do better with the alphafly..I can fouch for that being true cos I flatten out the forefoot cushioning of all racing shoes..I'm right at that 160lb pt and I definitely am a forefoot striker and wipe out the insoles of all shoes ..my new alphafly V2 should be here soon and see if they fixed the few issues I hoped they changed..I did stock up on V1 just in case 😳

Hey, non sequitur, but question for Ed; wth track spikes are they wearing at the WA championships in Eugene?! I just watched the W1500 final, and didn't recognize the Nike spikes on most of them. Didn't look like the Dragonfly or expected Victory; thicker midsoles in front and back. Muir and most everyone was wearing these spikes. The top 2 W marathon USA runners were wearing Asics, but those were recognizable (those runners are sponsored by Asics, so it was expected). How about an investigative breakdown of the racing shoes being worn at the WA championships?

Great video detective Ed. 🤪 Genuine question regarding the v2. If they've increased the drop to 8mm, is there 4mm less foam under the forefoot and is there a noticeable difference to the v1? Cheers. 👍
@EDDBUD
@EDDBUD 2 года назад
I reckon on there being more foam in the heel ( regardless of rules which seem to affect only the sample size ) there less rubber in the forefoot in terms of height.
@TolunayOrkun
@TolunayOrkun 2 года назад
The 8mm drop claim is a bit questionable as some reviewers with the means of measurement claimed 6.5mm drop. Some of that difference is coming from thinner outsole rubber (let's say 0.5 mm) so the loss of foam in forefoot is probably around 2mm. They probably reduced the thickness of ZoomX over the carbon plate in forefoot. which could accommodate the foam under the pods placed on v2 (which is about 2mm).
@EDDBUD

@TolunayOrkun 2 года назад
@@EDDBUD yes, I don't deny on your size it is taller. I think it was RoadTrailRun's measurement that on their test shoe the difference from heel to toe was 6.5mm. So, yours could be higher in the heel but can still be 6.5mm drop.

Nike added some foam under the airpods (increasing the forefoot stack ?) and some reviewers claim that the amount of foam in the forefoot didn't change or did even increase, contradictory the drop did increase from 4 to 8mm while the heel stack stayed the same. So what is it ? Did the drop really changed resulting in less cushionin in the forefoot or did it stay the same ? I would like to know your opinion, Edd.

@@EDDBUD Interesting. That's one heck of a World Athletics rule-bending shoe !
@TolunayOrkun
@TolunayOrkun 2 года назад
I think it is a result of two changes. Some reviewers with the means of measurement claimed v2 is actually 6.5mm drop. Some of that difference is coming from thinner outsole (say 0.5 mm) so the drop attributable to loss of forefoot foam is around 2mm. They reduced the thickness of ZoomX over the carbon plate in forefoot in order to accommodate the foam under the pods placed on v2 (which is about 2mm) but probably did not add more foam thickness in the toe area under the carbon plate.
