For those wanting a disc 1 materia leveling area... Once ya get the Tiny Bronco, head to the Mideel area and grind Headhunters with Double Growth stuff... Bam.

Master Tonberry can also be morphed into a Ribbon (the best accessory in the game: it prevents ALL status effects except Slow, Stop and Instant Death).

So, it seems you DID in fact forget something in this video. I am not sure if someone has mentioned this already, but I will mention it here anyway. There is actually a 5 slot double-growth weapon. It is a weapon for Cid. It is called the Javelin and you get it from a treasure chest in one of the caves in Gaea's cliff. (the one just after you push the snow boulder if I remember correctly.)

Okay, I went through a list of every single enemy in the game and found two enemies that both give 200 ap each, the blue dragon in Gaea's Cliff, and the sea worm on the beeches near Mideel. Furthermore, if you go to the sunken Gelnika (the downed plane on the ocean floor) you can fight Unknowns 1 2 and 3 which give 150, 200, and 300 ap respectively. As for the second question, all materia takes a good amount of time to master, but revive is one of the middle materia in terms of time to master.

The card game in VIII was so awesome, I would play that game longer than the actual game, lol. I loved the card game in IX too, but not as much.

"Steal as well" materia paired with either Master Command material or 4x cut makes it easier to steal

RU-vid needs more of this content. Not many disect the game and tell you how to do certain things that normally you would find almost possible ie ruby weapon. It's nice to see tutorials instead of let's plays because let's plays get really boring really fast. Kudos to you sir!

Thanks for the video, 4-8. Interesting stuff, here are some thoughts for you: Re: the Master Tonberry, you can also Morph them for Ribbon, the best status-effect protection accessory in the game. You can acquire two other Ribbons in the game but if you want three so your entire party can wear one, you will have to Morph a Tonberry. Yuffie is the best Morpher with her Ultimate Weapon, Conformer, because the 1/8 damage penalty for Morph doesn't apply. Yuffie can therefore Morph at full strength. Another important problem one must look out for while growing Materia, is to be aware of the Materia limit! Depending on your game version, there is a limit to how many Materia you can carry. 200 in the original PS version, I believe the limit was increased in the PC port. If you are at the limit and a new Materia is spawned by mastering an old one, the spawned materia will *delete another Materia in your inventory to make room*. Usually it will hit basic Elemental materia like Fire, Ice, or Lightning, but it will also delete Mastered materia. It won't hit equipped Materia. The game does not give you any warning that this is happening or that you are at your Materia limit. You need to be careful and keep track, remember that every Materia you master adds a baby spawn materia and takes up another space in your Materia inventory. Also, on the subject of getting rich, few get rich quick methods can beat selling Mastered All materia. They sell for a whopping 1.4 *million* gil, and you should already have four or five of them from the plot. They can be bought in Fort Condor once you have the Highwind, I think for 30,000 gil. They are quick to master, requiring only 35000 AP. Besides, you will hardly need them any more once you spawn two more Mega All materias. It's not like you will really need so much money, but it's quite easy to become a multimillionaire. You could even hit the gil limit, which is over 4 billion gil. (Be careful, though - the limit is 4,294,967,295 gil, and it has no hard cap. If you go over, the counter will glitch and roll over to zero, making you a pauper!)

Your video says that the Ancient Forest can only be reached by defeating Ultimate Weapon or by using a Gold chocobo, but a Green chocobo is able to reach it successfully. That means you could obtain the Apocalypse sword as early as obtaining the Highwind with Tifa as the party leader.

I couldn't care less if anyone considered the W-Item glitch cheating. Elixers and megalixers are extremely hard to come by and i'm going to exploit the glitch that Squaresoft provided us 20 years ago in 1997 lol. W-Item is also a very easy materia to miss.

At the end of the cave there is a giant spiraling hole of mist. The party gathers around and Cloud makes the comment "This is the center of the planet." After that cut scene you can either walk back or jump down into the crater. Once you jump down, you cannot return. If you choose to turn back any time before that, you can still get completely out of the crater.

double-growth not necessary. It will offer the same AP to 4 materia as an 8-slot equipment would to 8 materia. In effect, Cid's 'javelin' is better than the scimitar for growth: 5-slotsx2=10>2-slotsx3=6 ten is greater than six, making the javelin the BEST equipment for materia growth in the game. (Apocalypse: 3-slotsx3=9)

Bro I love these vids. I'm about to start an 100% run on FF7 and you are thee FF7 master just off of your 5+ ways to bet the weapons vids. I thought my friend as a kid was a legend when he had two ways to bet the weapons but you got the title. I've beaten the weapons as a kid too but it wasn't as easy as your no button method. I did the kill your ally method with mime of limit breaks but totally found that out by fluke chance and the first time I won against Ruby I ran into the tenticle glicthe and had to redo the battle. These vids got me excited to max out the game. (Pulling psx out as I comment.)

Oh, and BTW. Yes, movers and magic pot give the most AP of any enemy in the game, but the rarity of encountering them makes this method far less efficient than farming the third highest AP giving enemy which are the green scorpion/mantis looking enemies in the Mideel area which are pretty much the only thing you run into in that area.😉

*chuckle* It's hilarious (and beautiful) that folks still ask you this stuff, it means that interest and reinterest in this timeless game and your subscriber base is growing. It was amazing coming of age with this game (I just turned 33 January 6th) because the numerous flaws and intricate patterns (i.e. every double growth weapon available in Junan) make it like getting to know a person. W-item glitch is an exploit that let's you gain a huge amount of items in a way that was not intended, it's a cheat, but who cares? This is a single player game and cheating hurts no one, especially if you've played the game before and now want to move things along more quickly and avoid some of the grind, then why not, harmless.

Not to be pedantic, but I would argue that the Javelin is actually SUPERIOR to the Apocalypse rather than the other way around because you gain a gross total of 10 times the battle's given AP rather than the 9 times offered by the Apocalypse.

The W-Item glitch isn't cheating, It's a piece of coding that works, but also works in an unintended way. So if anything it's more of an exploit, not a cheat. Plus considering alot of people don't know how to use said glitch I think it's mostly the jealousy speaking when people call it cheating. Plus considering using the glitch isn't exactly a game breaking "cheat", items usefulness only stretches so far, the rest is down to strategy and the ability to adapt when things don't go as expected.

Great video! Similar to my approach. Hadn't thought about the movers though, neat idea. I'm trying for a compete game in 85 hours, and personally I find that it's best to focus on material early. Not directly, since the AP you get is so low, but as a side effect of other things you're doing. What you can do is have just 1 of each kind of material you have equipped at all times. You should always have enough slots to accommodate this.(by the time your material quantity starts outgrowing the number of slots Aeris will get a Fairy Tale, and not too long after you get an Edincoat) When you start grinding to build Limit Breaks(outside of Kalm is a great place to start doing this!) this will put a dent into the AP needed to master. By the end of disc 1 you should have several mastered. In order to keep up with the amount of materia you acquire you can un equip one that is mastered and make a slot space for another. When a material is getting close to being mastered(within 10000 AP) you can put those on the double slots and knock those out to make room for more. When you get the Tiny Bronco you have access to the island south of Mideel, great place to rack up some quick AP and finish them off. Enemy Skill Beta helps end the battles quickly. When you finally have triple slots you should have a lot mastered and can then just focus on the KOTR and other high AP ones. There is more detail to my own strategy but the idea is that you should only have a few not already mastered by the time the Crater even becomes available.

The W-item glitch is not cheating. Why? Because I picked the first item, then chose the second item, changed my mind, and canceled the second item. Am I not allowed to ever change my mind and cancel the 2nd item? To avoid the glitch would interfere with the normal way you'd play and make decisions throughout the game. The fact that it duplicates the first item was not my "intention", but what's done is done. I'm not gonna waste time counting, recounting, and deleting items just because the programmers messed up. So I just move on with my life and not worry about it.

This video taught me a lesson. Quality over Quantity. Attack Power doesn't meaning but Growth does if you are aiming for grinding Materia.

As for the W-Item Glitch being cheating or not, this depends on one's attitude about gaming and purity. FFVII even without the glitch, is a ridiculously easy game (one reason people create challenges like "no item use no summons no inns no random encounters" etc., etc.). So if a person wants to use the W-Item trick to make the game even MORE ridiculously easy, it's hard to see why they should be criticized. It's not a multiplayer game, so it's not like you're getting an advantage over someone else. If there's a part of the game you consider to be senseless grinding that takes away from your fun, by all means, use bugs or exploits to zip past that part. But if you want your huge Elixir total to be something you can honestly brag about, then you will have to steal them honestly from Gighee or whatever rather than duping them up. The single player thing means bug abuse / glitching is a personal preference thing. Now, if you're doing some kind of challenge or speedrun, there very may well be rules about what sorts of bugs you're allowed to use. If someone finds a glitch tomorrow where you can do some kind of song and dance in the Temple of the Ancients and suddenly skip straight to the North Cave, that would obviously massively cut down on speed runs, and the FFVII speed running community would have to decide whether to accept that bug as "legit" or not. If they decide to reject the bug, then obviously you'd have to refrain from exploiting it to earn their admiration of your best times. This is similar to an issue we had long ago in the original Diablo (Diablo 1) community on Battle.net. There were players who used trainers to create impossible items, like Godly Full Plate Mail of the Whale, and there were also several easily exploitable in-game bugs, primarily an item duplication bug that worked similarly to the W-Item trick and allowed perfect replication of equipment and potions. As a result, Battle.net was flooded with duplicates of high powered items, to the point that newbies getting online could easily go into a chatroom and beg for a few minutes and quickly find a player willing to dupe (duplicate) top-level equipment to give to them. Such equipment of course takes all the challenge out of the game and often such newbies would wind up being quickly bored by the game. Those of us in a group called the DSF (Diablo Strategy Forum) argued against bug usage, a playstyle we called playing "legit". Diablo wasn't quite as easy as FFVII but it was close, and indeed players came up with many challenges (called "variants") to make play more challenging than the easy base game. We did not scorn people who used bugs, but neither did we respect them. To earn our respect you had to not only play legit, but strive to challenge yourself beyond the limits of the base game. (One example of a challenge was the "Ironman" game - a team would create new level 1 characters, go down into the dungeon, and never come back up. No buying or repairing anything in town - you had to live off the land, get potions and weapons dropped by monsters, and somehow stay alive to beat the final boss. Ironman games were a tough challenge and most teams, even when played by experts, would die horribly within a few levels. Actual Ironman victories happened maybe once a year, and were celebrated as true epics.) A side issue with bugs and exploits is the matter of intentionality. Some gamers say that if a glitch was somehow intentional - intended by the developers - then it's not a bug at all, but an easter egg or a hidden feature. If it was unintentional, then it was a bug. People often use this divide to try to define some bugs as cheating and some not. For the W-Item glitch, I think this is a hazy area. If you had asked me ten years ago, I'd have said "obviously it was not intentional, it's a side effect of the W-Item glitch aspect where it can eat your items". But from what I hear, the glitch was *partially* fixed in the recent PC rerelease - the glitch still works for throwables and consumables but not for Sources. This seems to argue that the team who made the port (who I guess at least technically represent the game developers, even though of course FFVII's original dev team have mostly moved on), by not removing the glitch entirely, are sending a signal that the glitch is an intentional part of the game. So for some people, this means W-Item glitch has now been given the Squenix Seal of Approval making it OK. But for me, the idea of deciding whether a bug is OK based on whether the developers intended it, misses the point. The developers aren't in the room with you and don't care what you do (as long as you're not cheating in an MMO, that is). Cheat or not, it's all the same to them - they already got your money. I think that people use the "intentionality" argument to simply support a position they've already decided (for or against), ie., a rationalization. To me, what matters isn't whether the bug was intended, it's what effect it has on the game. Does it make it more fun? Less fun? More challenging? Less challenging? These are the only things that matter. So to me, I think it's up to every player to decide whether bug exploitation suits them. Are you just in it to see all the game has to offer (ie., go to all the places, get all the weapons, kill one of every monster, that kind of thing)? If so, bug abuse may help you achieve your goal. But if instead you're up for a challenge, you'll want to avoid anything that makes an already easy game easier, which would include bugs and exploits. And of course, if you want bragging rights, or to show off your skills, you will need to develop skills - and that means you will need to practice without the training wheels that bugs provide.

No, its not cheating -- but it is exploiting a glitch. pure and simple, the biggest question would be; "Do you feel guilty doing it?"

Thank you! As for your question, that is really up to your imagination, and that is what makes this game so great. You can train and level up your magic materia, or level up your characters, or just find better ways to combat most of the enemies. There are not too many good leveling up spots early in the game, so the best thing to do is to train next to a save point in the hardest areas available to you at the time. You can watch my IW Challenge for a look at a run with no training at all.
