YOU DID IT!!! You got Reptile. You unlocked (and soothed) a DEEPLY buried childhood memory. I remember seeing a guy get Reptile when I was a kid. I was at the laundromat with my older brother and there was this older guy (probably in his 20s now that I think of it. Lol) playing MK. I watched him get to this stage and get the double flawless and get that message! It scared the s*** outta me especially seeing the bottom of The Pit and Reptile. Luckily my brother saw him right at the end (the man couldn't beat him either. Lol) and asked "who the hell was that?!" The guy told us it was Reptile and how to find him. Blew our minds! Of course Of course when I got back home and told my friends NO ONE believed me about a crazy green ninja in MK you fight at the bottom of The Pit. Lol. That was almost 30 years ago. 😐. Helluva summer. Thank you much for posting these. I'm telling you that was therapeutic. He was REAL! He was real the whole time!
That’s an AWESOME memory, and one I’m sure that is all too common, not the scenario in the laundry mat but just in general, when we were younger seeing stuff like this happen and then telling our friends and them not believing a word of it 😂 thanks a lot for sharing I appreciate it! 👊🏼
Wasnt that something? Back in the day people would think you were lying or would come up with all these random gossip type secrets. "I heard if you press back 3 times on the pit there is extra blood" stuff like that. Most of the time you got called a liar until people saw it for themselves or read about it in a gaming magazine lol

What kind of sorcery is this 😅That sucks that you lost, but that was your first, and I'm sure you were nervous not knowing how he'd counter. I'm surprised that was your first time in 30 years, but you got this man. Soon, you'll be showing people how to easily find and defeat Reptile. 👊
As @tiagueixon states, every, 6 games played, when you reach the Pit Stage, and image will fly passed the moon. Can also be reached if perfect every round inc fatality up to the Pit Stage. Not sure if you can use block button to get perfect rounds up to the Pit and use non block for the pit stage, or you have to use non block throughout the rounds up to the pit stage. Obviously with characters like Scorpion, you have to program the fatality move by standing at the correct distance of opponent and then jump straight and program the fatality move in mid-air before you land. Sonia is easier because you don't need the correct distance. Version 2 Reptile was way harder and faster, hence why the juggle combos are important to master when you get the one opportunity to do some damage. Same Midway didn't make Reptile selectable, but then again he would have been pretty much unbeatable to play against in challenge but fun to play against the CPU.
I love how reptile started as just a dream ed boon had about fighting a monster at the bottom of the pit and when he woke up he made sure to jot down his ideas before heading into work and that’s how reptile got added into mortal kombat
Congrats on matching against him, I was even nervous when you were fighting him, when you said 30 years I feel your pain, some games I've never beaten til 10 or 15 years later, I can't wait til you beat him, just bringing back that feeling, I miss these days even more, it's sad in today's gaming world no one enjoys games instead they want to be the first to beat it instead of taking there time, times have changed.
Times have absolutely changed I think that why I’ve become obsessed with the early MK’s again, always fun bringing back that feeling of playing in the arcades back in the 90’s. I’ll get my revenge soon enough on Reptile I’m sure. Thanks for the comment 👊🏼
A part of me would have been disappointed if you had beaten him the very next day after mentioning it as one of your lifelong goals. This just adds to the excitement and makes it more interesting to watch. 👍
Nice! Two tips for getting to him a little faster. When you get to the Pit and see no silhouette, press Start on 2p and it takes you to the Courtyard for BATTLE 1. Second, if you get hit, lose that round and try again. As long as your 2 winning rounds were Flawless it still counts as a Double Flawless even when you lose a round.
Good tip with using player 2 I’ll have to try that as I can’t stop until I beat Reptile. I was aware of being able to lose a round however but, thanks for the tips regardless. 👊🏼
Beautiful video. I played it 25 years ago in the Arcade (Every time I came to play, always people gathered to watch me) Twice I met the reptile and twice I beat it perfectly. If I were to play it again today, I'm sure I would beat them all again. I was in love with MK 1 and I think it's still the best. Those were my carefree childhood times 🙂
Your videos bring back memories. I grew up during the 3d era of mk. So mostly deadly alliance, deception and armageddon. But as a small child i do remember playing umk3 and mk4 along with watching the original films. I was so captivated by umk3, the graphics and sounds and just look of the game enthralled me. To the point where all i wanted to do was play the classic mk games. Thank you for your videos. They bring me back to when i was a kid.

Hey, that was still great and well worth it. Sometimes I'd rather watch someone be great without being "perfect". It's more relatable and humanizing. So when something happens it's far more impactful. Great job!!!
Can we just admire the fact that Reptile has been patiently waiting to battle you under the bridge for 30 years? :) Also, are the impaled faces those of developers of this game?
Yes they are. There are many easter eggs regarding this game, like the bottom of The Pit is showed only once every 100 demo plays (or so). I was fortunate enough that i saw that specific part once i was on a arcade and i couldn't believe what i was sawing (MK1 was pretty new and everybody with me was shocked to learn that). Also Ermac and other bugs and misconfigurations where part of the MK arcade first revisions.
It was an intense battle lol and as far as the faces pretty sure it’s the developers however I do find the one face to look an awful lot like Jerry Seinfeld 😂
I remember doing this on my snes before school one morning and writing about it in my school journal that day. "Today i got to fight reptile" ......Mustve been in 3rd or 4th grade. I also had the game genie and the cheat for blood on the snes instead of the gray stuff. 😂 Good times.

Thanks Tasos, the method for finding Reptile that I mentioned in the video made it a lot easier to find him, time consuming yes but easier. I managed to find him once more and he beat me even worse the second time AND he did Subzeros Fatality on me (gonna post it in a short soon). Thanks for all the support my friend 👊🏼
Ive seen this happen in the wild exactly once. Dude was using sub zero, also. He used the slide during the bridge match. The collective theory is 'you cant hit block during the match'. But I think what that means is if you block an attack, it'll still do a little tick damage so it won't count as a flawless victory. I *Think* you can hit the block button without it affecting the reptile fight. I've only ever gotten the double flawless/fatality on the bridge stage once with sonya but didn't know about the requirement for the thingy to be flying past the moon. So I thought hitting block for her fatality was what messed it up.
Congrats mate... lol i still remember back in the arcade days on all 3 of the original MK's that every once in a blue moon the secret character would suddenly appear on the screen with cryptic clues on how to find them. Since youtube came along i've watched videos examining the clues and looking back now alot of them really did fall under the category of "how the hell were you supposed to figure that out!?"... didn't they? *rolls eyes*
Well done mate. It would have been cool to see Reptile's head getting ripped out too. It's funny how they didn't bother to change the character's name on the health bar. It was still saying "Scorpion" instead of "Reptile".
I love that the secret Reptile fight in MK9 is a reference to this fight where you meet him in the Pit, he’s wearing the human ninja skin, and he has Sub Zero’s and Scorpion’s moves too!
I kinda wish they'd kept the point system to compliment the total wins and win streak counters. It'd create another leader board on MK2 & MK3 (UMK3) to rank on.
6 play cycles for the shadows to appear on the Moon. The Genesis version has a cheat dipswitch to always have the shadows, and believe it or not, the MK 1 Plug and Play from Jakks Pacific puts the shadows on every single time (Yes, I have that one).
One of my favorite memories was getting my butt kicked as a 9 year old kid in the arcade who got to Reptile on accident. Didn't notice the image of the moon, didn't stress to get the double flawless and of course, enjoyed the fatality (Good ole' Scorpions -Block- + up + up). Then proceeded to get smashed by Reptile at the bottom of the pit. HAHA! Congrats! WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT!!! (Update: Well, I know I faced him, so I guess I spammed HP, don't think I've ever tried to do the jump trick though I might tonight! Love the video and responses!! Repltile is a pain in MK!!)
yes! this is what the devs had to be going for statistically, they probably knew how powerful rare occurrences in video games were and how they spread, and set out to make crazy people who swore by it!
The only thing that doesn’t make sense about your story is that you can’t hold block to do Scorpions Fatality because holding block negates the requirement. HOWEVER the way around that is to simply press HP repeatedly while pushing up and it will trigger the Fatality OR you just kept tapping up because after you jump and land the Fatality will trigger. Whatever the case you did it! And lost like myself 😂 good memory my friend thank you for sharing 👊🏼
i don't remember if reptile can actually do fatalities in this version. i seem to remember him doing scorpion's fatality? i might be thinking of something else haha. great job getting as far as you did!
"Stage before, lose, continue to reset difficulty". I never knew that. I had the Genesis version that allowed some cheats, like getting the shadows to spawn every time. Without the code they would never spawn. Reptile would show up between rounds but you couldn't get to him without the cheats. What was up with that? Anyways... Reptile has a glitch that allows him to be beaten easily, it involves jump kicks. It looks like you almost had it. That's all I can remember.
Man this has always been a dream of mine to do at an arcade. I've only ever gotten to see him in the genesis version, which is a way easier game than the arcade!
I did this about a year ago (emulation) the shadows showed up on the ENDURANCE stage! First time ever fighting reptile. Got him he’s not so tuff. I was so happy!
Nice to see it, when you see the shadows on the moon you kind of go limp as you know you won't get a chance for about an hour if you lose. You can lose 1 round if you get hit and the dying the fight before does make this significantly easier as you would be about 4 games in otherwise and the AI starts to get carried away into it want's more quarters mode.
@@BushyStallion Believe it or not, there is a bug if you beat him on the player 1 side on the arcade cabinet, you don't get the 10 million, a bug that was never fixed. Only if you face and beat him on Player 2's side do you get that bonus.
Interesting fact, Reptile is the only character that has 2 exclamation marks after the message "Reptile wins!!", the regular players do not get this. Shang Tsung and Goro only get one exclamation mark after their name if they win a match.
I've beaten on the PC version of the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Haven't managed it yet on the 1Up Mortal Kombat Deluxe yet. You let yourself die the first few matches so the stage rotates to The Pit while still on the first match. If you don't get the shadows on the moon you let yourself die and don't continue.
Congratulations…. I’ve never seen him without a cheat code, But fun fact you may already know: If you cheat (at least on genesis) and set first level to the pit you can see him a 3rd time in one game during the endurance match… there will be 2!!, reptiles, the second looks like a glitchy Sonya… (can’t remember how she moves though as that was 30 years ago) 🤣
Thanks Rambo 👊🏼 and it’s difficult for sure but there are steps you can take to make the process easier, however Reptile is always played on max difficulty, that’s the default setting once you battle him.
@ Darryl Tsung06 Have you ever done that weird fatality with subzero... 1st round kill the enemy however you want, 2nd round uppercut until zero health, freeze them then do the forward, down forward, high punch and there will be a pair of frozen legs and a body moving all weird in finish him mode ?
Not sure if it's always a pattern but he seems to shoot a hook/ice everytime you jumped kicked closer, like he blocks and throws, so you jumpkick closer and isntantly block and then you can freeze and punch.

It was my first time but I ended up fighting him again! AND LOSING EVEN WORSE lol he also finished me using Sub Zeros Fatality (I’ll post it in a short later) but yeah I never knew of the easier method to find him as explained at the end of the video. Anyways, fingers crossed that next time I find him I beat him, and then closing the chapter on that battle for good. Thanks for the comment Bran 👊🏼

I’m not sure why, but it was the same in early versions of the arcade also. Probably just another thing the programmers left in for people to talk about.
