For more photos of what I find in Cerro Gordo, check out my Instagram: / brentwunderwood
This is the coolest thing I've found at Cerro Gordo. It was wrapped in a blanket in the general store, in a room nobody had been in decades. When I opened it I found the highs and lows of 3 different miner's lives. Love letters, divorce decrees, mining leases, bankruptcy lawsuits, and even one letter than contained a map hand drawn, leading to where the author believe a rich ore deposit to be.
I'm going to track down where the map says to go and see if there is anything there. I'd also love to find some living family of some of these miners. Curious if they knew they were up at Cerro Gordo and their experiences here.
Thanks as always for the support!

I found both Andrew J. Carothers and his wife, Josephine, buried in Mount Whitney Cemetery, Lone Pine, California by searching Find A Grave Lone Pine CA. Andrew was born September 12, 1893 and died April 29, 1972. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, World War I. Josephine was born May 25, 1890 and died October 15, 1973. There are pictures of their gravestones. Josephine's gravestone says "Mother" so they must have had children. P.S. Get a dog.

What idiot came up with that idea? My point being that yes, it will be difficult for young people to learn from history through letters and documents. Like the CONSTITUTION! I also have loads of family history in the form of letters, they’re really important to me to learn who my ancestors were and how they lived, and pass them on to my children. As they say “those who forget history, are doomed to repeat it”. We must learn from the past.
@Minsang1st
@Minsang1st 3 года назад
lol get over yourselves for god sake. Most of learning history is done through reading printed books and documents that are not written in cursive. You don’t even go through old primary documents until you’re good way into history research. Also, learning cursive as an adult is not that difficult if you need to read old documents and the skills in reading old documents involves much more than just knowing how to read and write cursive. Yall are pretending like cursive is a core skill in history, it’s not.

I advertised him as an aggressive buck and gave him to a man who was much larger than myself after telling him what the buck did he didn't seem at all concerned. Just said he'd only try jumping on him once.

Sgt. Andrew Carothers is buried in Lone Pine at Mount Whitney Cemetery. Unless there was a slew of Andrew and Josephine Carothers in Lone Pine, this is them. Born Sept 12th 1893, died Aug. 29th 1972. He was a veteran of World War 1. Josephine is there as well, though you cannot tell from the information given if they were husband and wife (I am assuming so), or buried next to each other (again, I am assuming so.). She was born May 25th 1890 and died October 15th 1973. It does say "Beloved Mother" on her marker but lists no children. They are 16 miles away from Cerro Gordo, as the crow flies.

Reminds me of this Dutch guy who's father bought a whole mountain in the France Pyreneen in the 1940's, after his family died he became a priest for multiple churches in the mountains, not because he was so religious but mainly because he felt connected to the area and who else would take that position. I was watching your channel on our camper RU-vid account and then I had to add you to my personal account because I do genealogy and you were asking about these people. When I was watching before about the fire I thought how tragic but then God spoke. Sometimes we have a plan but then it gets derailed and then we find out that our plan wasn’t as good. Think about it; you’re getting the community to come to a place, that before today I’ve never heard of and I’m not alone, to help and rebuild. This place will be something special for everyone who helped put this place back together. I’m excited to watch this process. I wish I could help but since being disabled I can build stuff anymore.

Hey great videos keep up the good work All I wanted to say was try to find something that would cost more than 100,000$ if it was possible and then sell it and try building a big hotel, many tourists will start coming over for a vacation to cero Gordo (I don't know if I spelled it right) and make the mines safe so people would come in to explore to have fun it would be a tourist attraction Believe me everyone will start coming for the view and the history and amazing mine and plus if u didn't find any thing that is very expensive to sell sam and colby made a charity for you to help you so maybe try doing what I said in the beginning from the charity money Hope u like my idea and I hope it works

I did some research and found out J.D Leary's first name is James. Couldn't find anything on Chester Reynolds, but I found a bunch on Andrew Carothers. Unfortunately, it looks like Mr. Carothers died in 1972 at age 79. He was a WWI veteran. Idk if any of this helps or if you know this already, maybe more research and I could find their relatives.

James D Leary, born in Michigan, lived in Jud Township, Inyo Co. in 1940, if the correct J D Leary. In 1910 he lived in Tecopa, CA. He was 72 years old at the 1940 census, listed caretaker in the Mining prospector industry as his profession. At the time he was single, uneducated (only to grade 5 level), rented his home and was still working a 40 hour week. In 1920 he lived in Lida, Esmerelda Co. , Nevada - Sylvania Mining Disirict working as a silver miner. His parents were both born in Ireland, though one census record states his mother was English. in 1910 he was a miner in a lead mine in Tecopa, CA. Further back, in 1900, he was working as a miner in Missebshell, Meagher Co., Montana - that census listed his birthday as April 1867 in Michigan.

Earlier census records from 1870 reveal he was the son of a miner, James Leary and his wife Johanna. At the time they were living in Hancock Township, Houghton Co., Michigan. At that census he and a 6 yr old brother John, 5 yr old sister Mary and a 2 yr old brother Patrick. He, of course, was 3 at the time. By 1880 three more children were added to the family; Daniel born in 1871, Ellen born in 1873, and William born in 1875. His oldest brother John, at 16, was then working in the mines, as was their father still.
