The thing with the gun not being loaded but still hurting pennywise was because bill wasn’t scared anymore and he accepted that Georgie wasn’t alive anymore, so the shot he took symbolised his acceptance/lack of fear, and that’s why it hurt pennywise

Fun Facts: Apparently on set the little boy who plays Georgie and Bill Skarsgård the actor who played Pennywise became really good friends and that apparently the boy got really upset when he couldn't see Skarsgård during one of the recording days. Also Skarsgård made sure he didn't accidently hurt any of kids during the scenes and high five them afterwards. As well as the boy who played Henry despite his character being a psychopathic bully he was actually real nice on set and made sure everyone was okay after the shots they did together.

i´ve noticed that when the blood comes out if the sink in some sort of explosion, only the girls that watch the movie grasp the metaphor. That simbolized that Beverly is afraid of her period (which is normal beause it´s new to her, when she enters the drug store u can see her confusion when shes looking for tampons). Maybe if we´re going deeper, she is also scared of becoming a woman, especially with a dad like hers...

That bit of Pennywise unfolding himself from the fridge is not an effect. Bill Skarsgard trained with contortionists so he could actually do it. His eyes pointing different directions are real too; they were going to be done with CGI until Skarsgard showed the crew he could really do it, to which they profusely thanked him for saving a ton of effects money.

I ADORE Stephen King, and think he is miles above most horror writers. I think what really makes his work so chilling is that the real horror is the reality of life. Grief, loss addiction, suicide, depression……all of the kids facing Pennywise are really facing the traumas of life, not just a clown. I saw this movie three months after my brother was killed(completely forgetting the premise of it). It was traumatic, but also cathartic for it to be ok to NOT be ok. I think horror allows you to really feel emotions and be ok doing that.

Stephen King uses psychological horror. And he doesn't rely on too much blood all the time for that scare element. Plus you get to care for the characters. They are not killed off just for the sake of it. That's why he's such a success.
@HobGungan
@HobGungan 3 года назад
Like Stephen King's greatest strength is getting you inside the head of every single character and really opening up their entire thought processes wide in stark blunt detail, especially characters whose heads you might not want to be inside, and in a realistic stream of thought way you can follow as well as your own.

Let's not forget King was struck down by a truck, having to overcome traumatic brain injuries with grueling rehabilitation. In the early aughts (2004?), King was the honored guest & speaker at Casa Colina's annual dinner & charity ball. Instead of standard goodie bags at our tables, each place setting included a book by King in a special edition form. Pretty rad. I started with 'Carrie' & really wanted to trade w/ someone for 'Pet Semetary' -- then came to my senses, accepting this did not seem like the time or place for that. King speaking? Also pretty rad. Cannot really call it a speech. Clearly, he had an idea of what returning to (his version of) normal life meant & so far as I can tell - Casa Colina helped him achieve this. Not trying to run an ad for them. I only got an invite because my partner worked there at the time. Sorry if this has been a clump of irrelevance. When the original comment touched on "facing the traumas of life," King's 2004 musings on & in regard to mortality came flooding back.
@morganrobinson2436
@morganrobinson2436 3 года назад
@@kneau I totally agree with you, King’s own experiences with trauma were I’m sure a huge reason why he write most of his books. I don’t think this was irrelevant at all, especially because our life’s experiences often shape us into who we become. I always remember being so saddened and unsettled by Pet Semetary, even as a child(I had read the book and seen the far superior 80’s version at a young age😂). The idea of having a way to bring a kind bed one back, the temptation would be to powerful. I know for myself, immediately after my brothers death, I would have paid any price, taken him in any form, that I would have buried him in that cemetery. I think that may be a large reason as to why some people really dislike Stephen king books and movies, even if they don’t realize the reason. It’s too close to home, too real, and too uncomfortable.

I forget what IT is described as but he is described as a light eater. He goes after children, specifically children with a special “light” the main kids in the losers club have a particular light that he likes. It’s described as a brighter light than others. Just like in Stephen king movie the shining with Danny. I remember reading about how he also has a brighter light. So bright he can see dead people. It’s also theorized that the creepy things that are happening in that hotel are also IT. Because of the creepy visions and the fact that this once ok father is becoming darker and wants to kill his son.

IT is not actually a clown...just to make that clear...in fact hardly anyone really knows what IT really is...Pennywise the Dancing Clown is just one of many forms IT takes on to disguise himself...or should i should i say IT self. There are only a few things we do know; firstly all Stephen King books are set in the same universe (even though not all of them mention each other) and IT is mentioned at least once in another book but i can't remember which (as is the town this film is set in actually...that's in the book/film Dreamcatcher). IT can take shape into almost anything and usually changes into what we fear. It is somewhat hinted it is not from our world (maybe extra-terrestrial but not certain). the centre of IT's being is called the Deadlights it is the glowing vibrant orange lights usualy seen in IT's eyes and later you see it deep in his mouth...those caught in the glow of the Deadlights are paralyzed like a rabbit or deer in headlights...it is almost impossible to escape it. the worst part about the IT story is how the parents refuse to acknowledge IT and what it does...they're just like "nothing's wrong...i see nothing" and it wasn't just beverley dad either...the Mike's uncle or whatever is an asshole too. and the old woman pretends she saw nothing the day billy's brother died.

“Really? you’re criticizing him for reading? You don’t have any friends librarian lady” favorite comment EVER I lost it. I have never laughed so much in a terror reaction! I am a Stephen King fan, I have read his books since I think I was… maybe eleven and although I don’t do it anymore I really find its writing style magnetic. I saw the 90s version of IT and I remember being traumatized hahaha I didn’t understand half of it but still traumatize. With this one, I was very entertained and please, I think the kids are great actors and the bodywork that the actor who plays IT did is really good. I love the film’s photography and enjoy the camera. This story talks to me because I was a kid that was bullied a lot. My mom, when I was 4, taught me to fight (rocky style hahaha) because I will always arrive with bruises on my nose and although after my mom’s training I will fight back with the years it only got worse. I was too noisy or too quiet, too colorful or too gothic and at eleven I was the weird kid who wrote poetry, was chubby, and like to read books during classes. I was Ben hahahahahaha I even had my own impossible crush who I wrote poetry, the handsome Julian. I was called a pig and retarded among other complements. I was in constant fights and my ultimate enemy (I know hahaha) was the grandson of the owner of the school who was the most intelligent one of the class and liked to hit girls. So I had bullies and my personal IT who feed of my fears. I should have had I terrible time and in some ways I did. But there was something that really safe me, my friends. The sporty Laura that was called “The ugly duck” and is one of the most loyal people I know and an incredible anime companion, the soft Luisa that was the daughter of the Spanish teacher and Angela who was and still is as weird, black humor as I am. She is my best friend to this day. We were freaks hahahahaha and we haven't changed much. Playing voleibol the other girls wouldn’t pass us the ball so Angela and I named ourselves the Pets of the team. She clapped and I danced during the games. We are all still friends and I owe them my life and the magic with which I enjoyed and remember my childhood. That’s where I believe this movie does its best. The charm in the friendship of the kids and how they pass from children to teens in front of each other's eyes (In the book is way more explicit). They grow as individuals when they face their respective fears and they prevail for their union.

IT feeds on fear.. each kids vision turns up the volume on whatever they fear most.. for example, the vision of the 'leper' for the germophobe.. the vision of burning bodies crying for help for the kid who lost his parents in a fire etc etc.. fear is the great debilitator.. it's what makes IT so powerful and this such a powerful horror.. our fears kill us.. IT has many opportunities to simply 'Eat' them.. but what he really craves, what makes him stronger, is FEAR, that's what he feeds on.. In the books the monster-scenes are a little different. Mike isn't haunted by his dead parents (they're alive in the book), so instead of burning hands he's attacked by a giant bird. The mummy attacking Ben during the final battle is a reference to the book. No headless child, but a mummy on the ice during winter. Instead of Georgie in the basement Bill almost loses his finger when he's examining a photo album. Afterwards both him and Richie are attacked by a werewolf. No fear of clowns. Stanley is attacked by a group of zombies instead of the painting. In the movie Patrick is attacked by the zombies. Beverly's and Eddie's first encounters with IT are unchanged, although it's more like a bloody balloon that pops than the damn blood-waterfall that comes out of the sink in the movie.

The original IT miniseries is the reason that I hate clowns to this day. My cousin and I thought we'd be cool and watch it....when we were 6 & 7. Needless to say, my uncle tried to check on us the next morning only to find we'd managed to maneuver the chest of drawers in front of the door to try and keep Pennywise out. So when I saw this was the movie you were going to watch, I literally went "Oh, no, no, don't do it." (One of my other uncles had the uncanny ability to imitate Pennywise's voice from the original and would sometimes randomly go, "Beep, beep, Richie!" which never failed to make me jump.) Hats off to you for watching this on your own! Edit: I have the book but I still haven't gotten around to reading it. It's one of many in my TBR pile but, hey, maybe I'll get to it soon! I'd love to hear your thoughts on it once you read it.

For those that don't know, the character of IT/Pennywise was based off of an actual serial killer/molester named John Wayne Gacey(i believe) who would kidnap and do nasty things to little boys, he had a job as a party clown...hence Pennywise the Dancing Clown...

This movie changed my life, when I first watched it I was their age and it just spoke to me. These kids and their stuggles and learning to overcome them. The second movie was good too but the first one was everything to me.

IT is my second favorite book of all time (and my favorite book by an author I don't feel uncomfortable discussing right now). There are some things these movues get right that the Tim Curry TV movies fail at, some things that one gets right that these fail at, things they both do well and things neither of them correctly capture. But they're all worthy experiences. I will say the one and only thing this film does that improves on even the book is changing Stan's fear from a Mummy to that wonderfully nightmare-inducing painting.

The movie and its sequel did a horrible job of explaining why It only scared the Losers while killing others easily. In the book, after the kids met they had a special, powerful bond that the entity found threatening. Another power, Maturin the giant universal turtle, realized their power and helped guide them. They were somewhat protected to an extent by him and their power as a group. In the movie he only becomes afraid of them at the end.
@keno4770

Just as a brief explanation the reason Pennywise likes to scare the kids before he feasts on them is because he feeds on their fear. Basically the more scared they are the tastier they are. Also the adults can't see him because he has a curse put on the town (it's more explained in the book but it's referenced when the balloon in the car appears as Henry is about to cut Ben).

For me, the fact that Pennywise is a monster that is difficult to understand but does have a deep lore if you look hard enough, makes him a kooler monster.

If you read the book you'll soon see why this isn't exactly a faithful adaptation of the novel.
@auntdeen6314

A faithful adaptation would be damn near impossible. It would be way too long and a lot of it, particularly the stuff with the Turtle, would not translate to film.

Hi awesome reaction.. I'm old so I saw the original freaking loved it like the original of 'The Stand' but obviously newer movies have better fx but I gotta say I love the first one . Some of the grown up actors were all from well known tv shows which was cool to see them in a movie like that. Like Three's Company.. Night Court . And The Walton's.. Old but popular tv shows But yeah I like this one it's done well.. Though I see they didn't work the magic on the new "Stand" Steven King is great so it's up to people trying to make his stories great on film like"Shawshank & Green Mile"some are so good some are meh... Anyway Thank you ✌️
