FORD 351 CLEVELAND AND TOPLOADER FIT UP IN XE PHASE 6 WITH TIPS AND TRICKS

G'day guys, I recently had the pleasure of helping one of my good mates with his XE PHASE 6 Project. It is a Fresh 351 race prepped Clevo, four speed Toploader, 9 inch diff LSD, and running some of the nicest Simmons Mags i have seen on an old falcon!
It is a very cool build and has some interesting back story too, so make sure you listen and watch the whole video.
Its not so easy to work anf film but this video came out great, and as usual I share a lot of Tips and Tricks on different aspects of Fitting a 4 speed Toploader to a 351 Cleveland V8 and How I fit the motor and box to the car too. I really hope you enjoy it and learn a few things.
I saved the day with one of my spare Top Loader Bell Housings so I thought i'd share that bonus Tip too.

Hi mate , thanks for the info . As I’m just about to pull my Clevo out of my Gt for a refresh. Was wondering the best way for the lift points . And your idea using a strap and the manifold is a great idea. Shall be using that method and all of the other info you shared! Really appreciate it ! Thanks for sharing!

A cable clutch release ? Try Z bar mechanical clutch release - at least that's what we had when Cleveland were new back in the day here in Canada

Nice to watch you assemble the Clutch/Bell housing, Fork/Throwout Bearing assembly and talk about the do’s and don’ts during the process as your quite knowledgeable and obviously know what your talking about… I tend to lose interest in Ford vehicle’s after 1973, for in the USA, there really isn’t much to like as far as cars go in 1974.. Have never seen the car you installed that drivetrain into (must be an Australian auto). Not sure if I like it or not, being a 4-door and that lime green color, but can sure appreciate the work gone into the chassis, and being a light vehicle, with that drivetrain it’s certainly going to be a rocket ship!! Very cool video.. would like to see it completed and driving in a future video?? Just great work!

157-164 tooth combo fools alot of people man, also in Auto's. Gotta make sure you get the right bellhousing/Sandwich plate (Auto). I was really happy to see some PHASE6 Ford stuff in this Video. High chances are, youll have to explain Phase 5/6 cars, cos purists will carry on that only Ph4 was the last of that era (which is true). Ph5/6 were Wayne Drapers creation after he left Ford. Ford then used ESP, he used PH5/6 (not related to GTHOs). Quick correction with the bellhousing threads, they are 7/16 UNC. Something I noticed, those extractors look way too close to the starter motor. Im using Jaylec starter wth Pacemaker 4into1 in my XE with T5 box, and have heaps of clearance - not making a point - just a tip/hint.

yes I thought the same thing but these headers go straight back and sacrifice starter clearance for body clearance. If the headers were coated it would be no big deal

All the old state side fords had a linkage clutch setup in all the old school fords i had helped with. Earliest cable clutch i know of is 79 mustang, not sure if 74 to 78 mustang 2 used cables or not.

Hey mate how much better would a 400 horse stroker Cleveland run with an electric fuel pump? Can you use a elec fuel pump with the stock tank?

The hurst Indy or competition plus is a good shifter for the Toploader. My face shifter is the Renagate sequential shifter

Your highness, it is possible that the grade 8 bolts that I thought I saw on the clutch cover are the wrong bolts to use. Try to find original bolts and check which grade those bolts are. Grade 8 is not a better bolt than grade 5 bolts, it’s just a different bolt. Grade 8 bolts, by design, have less elasticity than grade 5.

Grade 8 bolts usually have 6 small lines on the head of the bolt to indicate. They liked to use grade 8 on suspension but non critical areas of the car was mainly grade 5. You are right grade 8 is stronger but more brittle.

Around 1983 mate the call it Greens Tuff the most famous car. The phase 5 and 6 was the Bathurst spec cars for racing.

check out the *Phenomenal* youtube channel ... Super100MPH.. to see vintage race footage of the ATCC (Australian Touring Car Championships) where Dick Johnson raced the GreensTuf Falcon.
