From beginning to end - The Milkman's 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe Interior Project

Episode 80 - This car came in the shop the fall of 2021 for us to fit an interior kit. Little did we know that the kit was for a steel body and wouldn't fit this fiberglass car. We ended up doing the interior from scratch; from headliner, carpet and all the panels. The owner wanted exterior door handles, so Derek added them and fixed the window rails along the way. Pin-stripping was added for that extra touch.
But she didn't get to leave yet, the carburetor was at fault, so after that got fixed and a few small maintenance items addressed, this little gem was on her way. All in all, we learned a lot and the Milkman was happy.

Hey Derek, I had seen all the videos before, and it was a good refresher to help nail down things I learned from you and the camera lady.

Nice job. For the all of the inside wrap around panels you can glue 1/8" closed cell or 1/4 soft foam on top of the panel before gluing the fabric on which will hide the plastic fasteners when installed in the car.

Thanks, we'll try that on the next one.

Nice. Interior work is enjoyable. A lot cleaner than all the other task. Electrical can be cool also.

Very nice job ! No mind it’s glass but this 3w is awesome. I’m surprised there is no steel reinforcement structure under the roof.

My upholstery guy says not to put dynamat on the ceiling. Black car hot day and the adhesive gives way and spoils your headliner. Also, a plastic sheet between door and upholstery panel helps to keep the backer board dry. Not trying to be negative, just friendly advice. Nice job, something I wouldn't attempt.

Thanks for your comment it's much appreciated. So here is where opinions will differ. My research and advice from local car guys was not to put plastic on the doors and allow the backer board to breath as where we live has high moisture ( and the car is not being driven in the rain). As for dynamat on the roof, its meant to withstand high temperatures but as they say the proof is in the pudding and on that, we'll have to wait and see.

I put Dynamat extreme followed by Dynaliner on the roof (ceiling) of my black '55 about 15 years ago; I have not put the headliner in and have driven it down to Texas in the summer almost every year and the Dynamat/Dynaliner looks as pristine as the day I installed it. If it holds up to Texas heat, I think it would hold up anywhere. Just my experience.

@@mattsullivan5274 thanks for your reply and support! Yes I think Texas heat would definitely be a good test on dynamat.

Thanks for the help with this video. Can you tell me where you got the arm that goes on the outside door handle shaft at the 5:04 mark?

We got them from Lee Valley but they don't sell them anymore. I've been trying to find another source but so far no luck.

@@coldstreamrodshop copy for this video. COMPX NATIONAL C8757-2C Grainger Part #:4TYJ3 I think this will work. 5/16 shaft hole. Just need to drill hole for rod.

@@JDMAULDIN I had some of those ones. They will work but the cast aluminum ones are better if I could get them again.

Do they make that aluminum panel with a heat activated core? That would be sweet for many things!

Off topic: How difficult would it be to convert a 29 Ford sport to a coupe? (Only speaking of the top)
@coldstreamrodshop
@coldstreamrodshop Год назад
I don't think it would be that difficult if you had the top from another coupe. I believe the doors and windshield are the same and the back quarters as well.

Im beginning to build one and photos of other Sports kind of make me scratch my head. Also concerned about turning something “special?” Into everyday. Not sure of the rarity of mine.
@coldstreamrodshop
@coldstreamrodshop Год назад
@@jamescampolo7117 not sure of the numbers on model A. For 32 Ford they're quite rare but not that desirable as a hot rod or at least very common as a hot rod. It's kind of half coupe and half roadster. I have seen some nice hot rods done as sport coupes.
