Noah, today at work I felt shame for not being talkative enough with my coworkers, I imagined a childhood friend who I remembered to be very accepting just telling me that it’s ok if I’m quiet that they love me just the way I am. Even holding my hand to really show me they don’t care if I talk or not. I felt so nice to receive that and afterwards I felt more confident and accepting in myself. Thanks for introducing me this exercise.

I’ve been recently feeling things I didn’t know were there. These deep layers that I guess my mind and body feels ready for. It’s overwhelming and scary but I do notice a big sense of relief afterwards and a more authentic open heart. It always has a message with it also, like a child expressing words. It does make me feel less afraid of peoples rejection and judgements also. There’s a sense of freedom that comes with it. Thank you for being so open, I feel less alone in this. I know this is important.

Delusional as it may sound, a few months ago I smelled some Black Spruce oil and the smell was so familiar and perfect to me, that even though I have never encountered that tree before, I felt like I was having a past life experience of actually BEING that tree, lol. No joke. It seemingly triggered a really powerful remembering. So now I have such a strange and intense kinship with it. That is one of my favorite smells now.

I think it made sense, and I can relate - yesterday I had an experience where someone wanted to talk to me and they sensed I am shy but kept trying to get me to open up and I did, and found myself breaking out of my shell, smiling, and enjoying the conversation. There was also a moment where he wanted to go deeper but the subject felt particularly vulnerable for me and I said that is "awkward" and he did not push it. But after your video it reminded me that I valued the connection more than the fear I felt last night after I went home and reminisced/worried about this and getting hurt possibly in the future. I also crave intimacy - closeness, beyond just the basic question/answers about my job, what I am doing. I am not sure how to really explain it -but something deep basically, and people seem to say it takes time to develop intimacy and that people connect over shared hobbies. I can also relate to wanting to share despite vulnerability even though one counsellor type told me not to open up right away so I do not feel vulnerable. I have been single and without the family I was born into / living alone for almost 14 years and it is taking its toll. It is like your videos -last two are timely to what I am going through. You seem to be a deep kind of person and I seem to also feel more connected /closeness with those kinds of people. Thank you.

I wish I had even one person like you in my life Noah. Everyone is so closed up, even some do not realize it. And those I have met who are on your level, I have met in retreats but to them I am not on their level, because I am there to learn. They have their own circle or Sanga(sp) that I am not a part of. It can get expensive travelling to go to retreats to experience this openness. . So... In my day to day life, I am in the real world where people are busy in order to avoid facing themselves, and defensive to hide their fear... And as a result, I am the same way... Shutting everyone out, keeping busy, and telling myself that I really don't need people. I have even convinced myself that I am not missing out on anything. Well... Until I watched this video.

This video is worth thousands of therapy sessions. I will be spreading it, thank you for being 😇 I have a question. I see in me such a strong desire to share the joy inside my heart. The desire is very strong. Now, not everyone has the capacity or desire to feel joy. Pain-addiction can be very alluring for many of us. Why do I experience such phenomenal desire to share joy when I can clearly see not many people can receive it? Have you also experienced it in a past or present self of yours…?
@NoahElkrief
@NoahElkrief 2 года назад
You're welcome Charnita. My perspective is to just trust your desire to share joy, and let go of any reason why. My experience is that the truest desires don't care about the outcome. Sometimes I may feel like sharing something, and I expect it to have a horrible result, but I just know that I have to share anyhow.

@NoahElkrief
@NoahElkrief 2 года назад
Underneath the anger, may be feelings of helplessness that you're not allowing yourself to feel because it's too big, painful, or difficult.
@camez2345
@camez2345 2 года назад
I'm not sure if this is the case for you, but in my family, we were taught that anger was bad -- not explicitly, but in the way of disdainful remarks or scornful looks or harsh words. This was the response to other "strong" emotions as well, which, if you experienced or tried to express them, you got branded as overreactive or oversensitive. Can you imagine telling a crying young child to just knock it off every time they cried, instead of figuring out what was the matter and, if they indeed did have an out of proportion reaction, teaching them how to work with their feelings, or at the very least, not chastising them for not knowing how to handle emotions? It's sounds so crazy now but that's how it was growing up. As an adult, it's just been a trail of confusion and not knowing which emotions are "valid" and which aren't, and in what amount. The worst part is, I semi-caretake my now elderly parents, and I feel so much resentment, particularly towards my father, when he scoffs at my ideas or feelings. Anyway, I just thought I'd share that because over time, I've learned -- from therapy, reading, and healthy friends and mentors -- that anger has a logic to it, and it's trying to tell you something much more concrete about how you feel about a situation. But if you were taught early on that anger is simply bad and should be avoided at all costs, it's then exceedingly difficult to listen to what it's trying to tell you. Not to mention, you learn to hate yourself for being weak and unable to control your anger like everyone else. Anger and irritability are also hallmark symptoms of depression, so that's another possibility. Also, if you by chance have ADHD, you may have a very low tolerance for frustration, as many with the condition do, which becomes more or less pronounced depending on a situation or environment. Have you had a change of circumstance lately? New job, challenging assignment, unsupportive family or friends, need to pick up someone else's slack at work, crappy diet, not enough exercise? Even temporary changes can throw the mind for a loop.

Animals are more intuitive than humans. Reason: they don't dwell on their pain. Human beings do. So we are all damaged people and thats ok, it's normal. You can't show 100 percent of yourself to anyone, you have to keep 20 or 30 percent to yourself in safe keeping. What you can do is help others in need, volunteer for people who need to be heard.9r else get a pet, they'll teach you about life. They are the most precious beings on earth. And trees and nature 💕💕💕💕 is true healing. Regards, Tree hugger.

Hi Noah, hope you are well! I wanted to know how you felt about the fact that people have been less responsive to your recent videos? Why is that the case? Regards
@NoahElkrief
@NoahElkrief 2 года назад
When I first started making videos again a few years ago after a few years off, there were so many less views. It was hard for me to feel that at first. Feelings of sadness, hurt, abandonment, and being a failure came up for me. But, over time, I stopped looking for my self-worth from the video responses. Now, I meet each response individually, and try to let it touch my heart. Before, it was more about numbers, now, it's more about receiving from the heart. My perspective is that most of my subscribers subscribed to me based on my analytical videos. So they don't resonate with current videos. Also, people maybe stopped resonating after a few years off. Also, I used to make videos based on what topics people were looking for so I could get a lot of views. Now, I just make whatever comes to me, and I don't use RU-vid strategies to try to get more views. I don't feel the pull to put effort towards it.

@NoahElkrief
@NoahElkrief 2 года назад
If you don't fear opening up, that is very beautiful. Opening up can't hurt us. The idea of opening up can cause us to fear what happened the last time we opened up (which may have been painful).
@inkolore2
@inkolore2 2 года назад
In my opinion, it's not opening up itself that hurts, but more the possible rejection of opening up with someone who doesn't receive you well (it's not the only cause, but the one that is most present in my experience). For example if the other person is uncomfortable with meeting us on the same level, and tries to steer the conversation away. And as Noah points out, there may have been painful events related to opening up, like sharing something you've been struggling with your parents and them telling you how it's your fault, instead of being compassionate with you.

@@NoahElkrief hmmmmm 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Hard to say, compulsion I guess. I'm very adept to not judging others. Well I mean I do, but there is always an underlying sense of, "it wasn't their choice" so I don't hold onto it. Except when it comes to myself. I think it's a deep primal fear of being rejected by society, from an evolutionary stand point. People seem quick to "cancel" these days and less keen to forgive.
