Yea but still there’s that lingering feeling it’s not enough if we don’t beat All Blacks twice this season for me. Call me ungrateful and difficult to appease
Sometimes you need failure to motivate success. We had to suffer the disappointment of 2007 and being whitewashed by the Boks in 2009 before finding our illustrious 2011-2015 run.
Shows the pride of the Bok machine, but fair play they took a proper record setting hiding on this day. Great teams are made from such defeats, they never want to taste the 'humiliation pill' twice.
@@kiwitalkspodcast after this game, we got a new coach, a new director, changed the system of not calling foreign-based players, thus changing players. Hell, we even got new sponsors😂
You have to give credit to Erasmus, don’t you? Regardless of the Lions tour and it’s attendant silliness, he took most of the same players and turned them into World Champions. Incredible.
Not really because of Japan SA ended up with an easier route to the final losing to NZ turned out to be a blessing in disguise and by the time SA played England the ABs had already softened them up they had nothing left their final was against NZ SA had a lot of luck
These were really dark days for South African rugby. Rather be disliked by your foes for being boring when winning… than be pitied for losing. Abjectly so.
If your a true rugby fan. You know boks are never out of the top 3 team convo regardless of how bad they may be playing.... same for the all blacks and wallabies.
I remember watching this in the pub with my now wife, and a couple of really good mates. A lot of drinking was done that night, up the lads! I MISS this All Blacks side so much 😢
Anyone notice that 7/8 of the Springbok bench is now the current starters (or regular players) and 9 of the starting 15 either doesn't play for them anymore or barley makes the squad. Thanks Rassie.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember a lot of political debate surrounding the Springboks at this time. There should never be any form of racial barrier surrounding any sport. If my memory serves me correctly it's clear to see what a team of players who deserve it looks like and, this... That being said I might be completely wrong here and I apologise if that is the case
As a All Blacks fan I was very satisfied watching the Boks beat the English in 2019 since they knocked us out. Looking forward to see the boys square up against the World Champs this year though. They'll be a test of our current squad for sure.
I remember watching this and into the 2nd half I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I'll always banter you guys Springboks, but I'm truly happy you've left this brief slump well and truly behind.
Kiwi here, I watched this Test with my brother in law and he's a league fan and not into union and I started off by saying, right then, you are about to see a mammoth battle. As the match unfolded he would say to me, what the hell is this? I just kept saying, this is very very unusual. I must have said that dozens of times... Who would have thought that a mere two years later, The Springboks would be holding the World Cup aloft
the ab lift their game against the boks for almost 100 tests/but for a number of reasons S.A rugby have issues and games like this is a reflection of a poor boks side with issues/not great for the spectacle these 2 teams supporters expect/
The boks' game plan is almost identical to the current plan - intimidation, physicality, aggression etc etc. What makes it work now is simply a better kicking game, better players and the confidence that comes from winning games.
Yeah it's understandable as the race quota was introduced recently at this point. 2016/17 you guys were adjusting still trying to find the best players for the plan, 2018 saw huge improvement and perfected it by 2019.
Everywhere. The quota system was already in force when Jake White was in charge, a good 12 years before this. Furthermore, the quota system was not the issue in 2017; we suffered from a combination of our rugby being left in tatters by Heyneke Meyer when all of the veterans he insisted on playing all retired concurrently, and the fact that Allister Coetzee was not good enough to grow it from there - in fact, he was not good enough to coach the side, period. It was a lot more complex than that, so this is the simple version.
To be fair, the boks were shit under Coetzee, out of his depth. As an ABs fan, I'm happy the boks are a much better team now under Rassie/Neinaber. Real competition
@@MrKano00 yeah I understand that but you have to admit that before the game we thought they were two even competing teams as it turned out only one side competed that's on the players
Wonderful to watch the All Blacks when they are in this sort of form. Every single player was superb. Amazing to think that SA recovered from such a humiliation to win the world cup just two years later.
As a neutral rugby fan, after this game i thought the ABs - Boks rivalry had been lost forever. The gulf in class was monstrous and I thought that All Black walkovers would become the norm. Then Rassie came in and the Springboks got their old swagger and mongrel back. The rivalry over the last 3 years has been back to what it used to be which is fantastic for the international game. In the last 6 matches the biggest winning margin has been 10 points and many games like the two in 2021 have been decided on the hooter. What a difference one coaching change can make. After this game if someone would’ve predicted the Boks to win the RWC in 2019 they would have been called an idiot.
Thank you AB for this game…after this everyone has written of the Boks and now 6 years later the Boks have won the World Cup twice back to back 2019 and 2023.
Heads-up to you, AB won it BTB 1st not the boks, do not go on as if the boks was the only team who did it and this game and score the boks will never be able to copy 😢😢
Holy moly that really puts it into perspective how fast the improvement has been for the boks, I never realised! They were hung drawn and quartered here… how embarrassing. Good to see them smashing it now though, only way is up!
@@theriddler5601 losers mentality that's why NZ will always be the best we don't settle for mediocrity we want to win every game no wonder SA never win anything else in sports with a losers mentality like that

@@ggunzwebmarketing Kiwi Legions who live in Aussie,. - Brad Thorn picks former All Black captain Richie McCaw as his hard man, The man born in Mosgiel, near Dunedin, who moved with his family to Queensland as a child and played in the NRL for the Brisbane Broncos as an 18-year-old before returning to New Zealand in his 20s and playing for the Crusaders and All Blacks before a move back to Australia, and another move back to New Zealand, is carved from granite with a mental edge to match. He played 59 tests and was notoriously tough on himself and those around him. He played his last game as a professional at 41 - for Queensland in Australia's national championship. At 43 years old, he still feels he could play now and few would doubt he could. No one, apart from wife Mary-Anne, the mother of their three sons and a daughter, would be brave enough to tell him so. Right now, he's the coach of the Reds and that suits him pretty well. The familiar raspy voice, a victim of an arm to the throat countless hit-ups ago, is on the line and has a few things to say. Show me the money Sonny would not be in his team as a Rugby player. - maybe in his league team. & Quade could be asked to come & train for the Reds, next year,.!!!
All Blacks went downhill from 2017 onwards while South Africa went upwards from the lows of 2017. Difference in coaching and selecting the correct players in their specialist positions.
A game the mighty Bok would rather forget, but they are the present World Champions a different beast today. The ABs are chomping to lock horns with the world champs can't wait, 💯 Test's against each other should be epic.
From a Kiwi, This is not the real Boks you and i both know. this should be remembered as an incentive for future games. and as you know it was the Rugby champs and two years later the World cup
People easily forget that this game was in Nz. Not taking away anything from the boks or anyone else but you gotta play perfect rugby to win over there. When they beat the all blacks on home soil, it’s was a amazing achievement. I’m looking forward to up coming games.
Such a dominant display of top quality rugby from New Zealand. South Africa made ALOT of mistakes and a well drilled, slick running All Blacks machine capitilised on every opportunitty they gave them. That All Blacks team was absolutely oozing ability, every player performing at their peak, great rugby to watch. The turn around South Africa had from that game on is amazing. Through the game we see very brief glimpse's of the capability and power South Africa posess, just lacking cohesion and communication.
And to think they turned their world around straight after this and the all blacks went into full reverse culminating in the England semi loss and Argentina 1st time loss. Definitely the good ol days this game
one amazing thing I remember about this match is, celebrating the win with drinks and no lock down lol...on a serious note, some are saying that the coach was the down side of this embarrassing lost for Boks. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. The ABS for me were just clinical and out performed this Boks team...secondly the Boks players started strong, but after the ABs started scoring everything fell for them. Their line outs were bad, they made too many miss tackles etc.(theres other things but can't be bother to say). Even with the new coach, they still couldn't beat the ABs during their RWC 2919 match. However hats off to the Boks for winning the 2019 RWC.(They deserved it)
Am on the 25th minute. so far the boks are actually playing really well. i think they actually left two tries unscored already. two mistakes and a less than effective defence than now in 2021 was their only problem. but you cant blame them yet for aron smith quick thinking for that first try. although comared to the 2021 springboks they would have been focused enough in their defence .to stop that. i wonder what went wrong after this. because these boys so far are playing really well. even on attack we have broken many times already
whenever the AB's lose you guys pull this game out. Let it go, that Springbok team went on to be 2019 World Champions and the All Blacks went on to bend the knee against England, thank goodness you're only as good as your last game ;)
The only one that surprises me there is Kitshoff. If memory serves me correctly...: Damian was recently back from injury and not in the same form he had been in 2015. Serf in the starting line up was not a bad option at all. Pollard was also recently back from injury and even in the return game in CT, was not deemed fit enough to start so came on as a replacement again. PSDT was still pretty kak lol. He was still battling with the move to flank and Coetzee even had to defend his selection in that opinion a month or so later. PSDT only really took to that role when Rassie stepped in. All hail mighty Rassie!!!! XD De Jager on bench with Etzebeth and Mostert starting? Meh, could happily accept any of those three starting and the third on the bench. Not much in it really. By the way, you know how you think that Coetzee was really clueless? Actually, he was worse than that!!! But the selections mentioned were okay in my books. Maybe because he was not the lead selector at the time?
It has got to really suck when the other team puts nearly the entirety their second string in at the start of the second half and you realize they can still pretty much beat your first string.
40th minute. just before half time the Boks are attacking like the Allblacks. compared to the 2021 Boks this Boks side has attacked better. In this first half i think they have had 4 breaks through awesome attacking play with awesome offloads. i would say the 2021 Boks which is 60% of this team can actually attack. Now that they have sorted their defence and set pieces then they need to bring this attack back in their game. that will make them invisible like the crusaders.
better than usual because this ref is miked and yells loud, so, you can hear his orders over the endless blather of the commentators and keep up with what is going on.
The dark Allister days - some of our fans still make excuses for him. Nice guy but out of his depth...even if he did have the chance to pick overseas players he would still be out of his depth.
Talking crap! Alistair was appointed because SA Rugby wanted a coach that was going to move the Boks away from their traditional style and into the expensive, running the rugby the ABs used to win the WC in 2015. At the time they believed if Meyer couldn’t win the WC with physicality then we needed to start running the ball. Alistair was successful with it at the stormers and in Japan hence they picked him over Rassie. That is why we shouldn’t be tricked back to that nonsense 7s rugby and stay true to our traditional ways.
48:49 if 5 and 3 had been running up to support #7 could have easily offloaded since he was already looking to and ez try since the allblacks were drawn into him. This made be mad there was a huge opening and they were so close to the endzone. You've made it that far keep pushing as hard as you can😔
I remember watching this game and by half time i had already drank half my box of beers in disbelief and started cheering on the Boks (it was the beers) by the end i was in an alcohol induced coma
Hahaha, you got to love the all blacks. You guys LOVE reffering back to this match. As a Springbok supporter, I'll gladly slap 57-0 defeat on my chest and cheer the loudest when we take the rugby championship again this year. Back then we were under shit management that saw the death of the Sprinngboks. Very much needed for it's ressurection.
Politics, shit coaches and when we did have a great coach, he wouldn't last. Great coach, very good players, there should be no excuses know. GO THE MIGHTY GREEN AND GOLD!!!!
Lol calm down, you pretend like all all black fans are arrogant because some rub this game in your face while arrogantly presuming you're going to win. Just incase you forgot, we still beat you in the 2019 rugby championship and in the rwc. One step at a time old fella. Beating Australia and Argentina isn't a big deal and we all know it. Beat us first, than you can keep this ego driven nonsense, especially when it was your first southern hemisphere title win since 2009 🤣
@@Karma-qt4ji don't get me wrong, we have our own breed of special people too. We will ride our rugby history glory until the end days, we don't have much else here in NZ 😅
Springboks' number 14 needs to work on his tackling. All the pressure in the world on that kick won't help you if you can't make that tackle after the chase.
will there ever be a day that every other rugby playing nation stand a chance to beat the All Blacks any day? I think that would be the day rugby will become truly a global sport.
You do realize that the All Blacks have been beaten before right? And they will be beaten again. They have games against South Africa, Australia, Argentina, Wales, France, and Ireland coming up. If the All Blacks don't play well, they could easily lose half of those games.
The only law that irks me,is the to slow rolling away, how can,if somebody is lying on top of you, if the player isn't interfering with the flow of the ball coming out play on, there's enough stop start, let play continue
Now this is how you beat the Springboks. Attack their set pieces, dominate them physically in the rucks and mauls, play with flair and guile, and force them into making mistakes and punish them for it. Both teams are very different nowadays but this is the template to follow. The Lions failed by trying to play the Boks at their own game and lost badly.
Everyone knows exactly how the Boks are going to play, but not many teams can actually stop them from doing that. All Blacks are probably the only ones at this stage, but you won't be getting 3 free intercept tries and you can't afford to give us 7 tries like you did against the Aussies. I think the All Blacks might have the edge here but I doubt it will be a blow out like this game.
I'm an American, and I have a question about the rules. This kick by McKenzie 1:00:34 why isn't it a 50/22? He kicked it from his own half, it bounces within the opponents' 22, and goes out of touch a meter from the try line. Why isn't it a line out to the All Blacks?
Man dark times these were for the boks. As a bok supporter, perhaps one of the worst Springbok teams we've seen in the past decade. And man did Raymond Rule have an awful outing or what? Missed more tackles than made. Although, good performance by the ABs.
@@qcthesxientist I'd hate to start of with a disagreement but this team was horrible, really thankful Rassie had the sense to change all but 5 if I'm not mistaken
@@cvd465 I definitely agree with the sentiment but like in terms of individual quality I think this teams problem is clearly not the personel talent but the way the team is being used. I think Rassies selections were more about trying to create a working gameplan and thats why a large portion of the team was built around stormers players who were experienced in the neinaber style defence.
@@qcthesxientist I suppose that's true, to be fair I don't regard any player good enough to play a sport professionally as untalented but like you said today's side is more about the plan that the players.
