Implementing a safe word and then ignoring it when the time comes is just? I’m speechless. It is horrendous to watch. Their baby used the safe work that was TAUGHT TO THEM in order to keep them safe and allow others to KNOW and understand their limits and then their supposed TRUSTED parents ignored it and did worse than that and SHOVED them under the water too. I’m just baffled I’m speechless it’s unfathomable. I’m absolutely shocked and it makes me terrified for how many children have to live with parents like this😣

I have taught water safety for kids for years, this is not the proper way to teach water safety! Toddler that age the parent should be in the water as well, getting the toddler acclimated to the water and comfortable in the water so they don’t panic when they get into the water and they can stay calm and think of what they are supposed to do. Back floating is one of the first fundamentals but you don’t take your hand out from under them since you do not want to toddler to get water in their mouth and eyes and panic. The toddler needs to trust the instructor to keep them safe, not get scared and have a panic attack at the sight of water or the instructor. You do not roll the toddler over to have their face submerged. You teach them to hold their breath and blow bubbles first. Yes the result that you want to achieve is that the toddler knows what to do if they fall into water, but the first part of achieving that goal is ensuring that the child does not PANIC. The water emergence technique does work (with the proper fundamentals taught as well), but you do not just throw them in a watch them suffer. This makes my blood boil!

As soon as I heard him cry for his mom I looked at my two year old son sitting on my lap and simply imagining that being him made me physically sick. I had ear infections as a kid, that later lead to hearing aids after having 3 sets of tubes. Because of the ear problems I haaated water (I always got massive ear infections later, so obviously I had issues W water). My parents thought it was bc I was scared of water and tried everything from pushing me in to holding me and taking me in slow. I'm in my late 40s and STILL don't care for water. I live SURROUNDED by beaches (Massachusetts, on the Southcoast, close to the cape) and I RARELY go to the beach bc I just don't care for water. I hate water slides, water parks, etc... And bc of that,, I never pushed my son to like the water. I had him do lessons when he was little, but he liked it and he actually has a pretty health like for water, but is also careful. He loves water parks, pools, etc and I honestly think it's bc I never PUSHED him to be in water. I let HIM decide when he went in water, etc. I feel like that poor baby will always hate water and never know why. Or at least not til he sees those videos later and puts it together. I think the "swim to survive" classes can be great but sometimes take things a step to far and they encourage the parents not to step in if the child is upset. I also had an Absolute visceral reaction to that Baby practically drowning!!!! Very very abusive and terrible and very hard to watch! The way it is SUPPOSED to be done is you bounce the baby and you giggle with them shoulder level in the water…. and hold them facing your face and then go under with them, quickly, and blow on their mouth AT THE SAME TIME so they stop breathing for that second and they learn and they’re happy and they don’t get traumatized!!!!!!! Josh I always love your videos, you make me laugh and we all need a good laugh right? I am sickened by these people who have called you horrible names and accused you of a horrible crime that they have literally no proof of! Keep doing what you are doing, because you are making a difference, and it is not HOW MANY people follow you that matters, it is what is your content and does it make a difference positively in this world! :)

I'm still scared of water and I'm 22 so I felt that kid's pain!!! Growing up, people thought the answer was to try and push me into the water or mock me for being scared but that just made me eventually refuse to even try or get near the water. On my honeymoon was when I finally overcame some of my fear. We got hotels with pools and my husband would hold onto me and gently walk around, teaching me to swim. Being able to trust him not to let go of me or laugh at me was when I finally actually was able to learn. I'm not a great swimmer but at least I can swim a bit now.

I had a very similar experience with water as a young child. I flat-out panicked instead of swimming (or FLOATING)! My parents sent me to many swimming classes when I got a little older, but I never could shake the panic. I live on an island, and while I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY, I've never taken to the water. In high school, I was terrified when everyone was getting tossed in a pool at a party, all in good fun. I would hide! I missed out on so much. I don't like riding on a ferry (which is commonplace where I live), and when I went up to N.-B., EVERYONE had a lake house. They had the best times on Lac Unique, tubing, singing, living life-- while I was handcuffed by my terror. This is no small thing, depending upon how the child processes it. I GUARANTEE it doesn't work ALL THE TIME.
