Or FX just fit a proper barrel. Customers are spending a fortune on Mods and improvements that should already be on the rifle. I own two and like them but enough is enough . POI shifts and liner indexing is a PITA . A LW barrel will shoot slugs and pellets so why these flimsy barrel systems. Removing and replacing the Mod causes a shift .
Great video I have done just what you show here and it is great!! Been testing it as well and it’s a tack driver! Also you can unscrew the back adaptation plate on that Donny and leave that on that’s what I do. The internals of the Donny stay just fine and it still fits in the case.
Well done my friend, cheers from Chile I do this 10 years ago, and continúe doing this to this days... Work fine for heavy silencers and a lot of poi drop
Awesome, great idea. I think tension is more accurate than torque. Torque is applied to tighten the moderator, but the force resulting on the barrel is tension. ❤
I may be misunderstanding, but the desired result seems to be to tension the barrel to increase stiffness, thereby eliminating or minimizing barrel whip, ie harmonics.
@@texaspst968 you are halfway correct. the barrel is being stretched, pulled under tension by increasing the number of threads in the moderator. the carbon fiber outer is being pressed upon thus pulling the inner barrel tight under tension.
@@outtoride You are absolutely correct, the barrel is under tension while the carbon fiber sleeve is under compression. Thanks for mentioning that. I was not clear.
Hi Ernest, I have a. 22 impact with 700mm barrel. I noted that sometimes the POI as shift and I found the solution... Put a rubber ring between the sleeve and valve house and it improve a lot the accuracy and the barrel is always ridged and no more shifting of POI
Hello I have been working on this project for about 3 weeks now. I watched Ernest's videos on how to put your barrel under tension to help with barrel droop and harmonics. I purchased the 14mm x 20mm 3k carbon fiber tube that he used in video and cut it leaving about 1mm longer on the length but then I was stuck trying to figure out the size and thread of the liner lock witch after talking to FX USA it's a 13mm x .5 pitch on the threads witch is micro threads. I hunted down a tap from McFaddendale hardware witch was special order and $25.00 but then I was in a position that I also wanted to be able to use my moderator so I needed 18×1 threads to put moderator on so things were getting more complicated so reevaluated the situation and came up with this. I took old .357 shroud and went to my buddies shop where we chucked up the original shroud and bored the cone out to 20mm to allow the 14mmx 20mm carbon tube to slide onto the barrel leaving about 1 mm longer then barrel length and laving the 13 x .5 treads from the liner lock exposed so now I slid shroud over the 14x 20 carbon fiber tube that is full length of barrel and the shrouds now can screw back onto the liner lock and tension the barrel. I will get some pictures of what it looks
Is there a way to put the shroud back over the CF sleeve? Then the shroud would work as your tension nut and it would also look good lol. I feel like it would work as long as you could open up the cone end of the shroud to match the OD of the CF.
Nice work once again, my only thought is I'd like a second sleeve to bulk it back up to approximately the same diameter as the standard shroud... just a personal cosmetic thing something about the skinny/ naked barrel that just doesn't look as good to me, but I do like the way you think, always something worth are time and money from you thanks again! 🥃cheers🍻
For anyone else looking for this info I called FX USA yesterday and they gave me the info. The tensioning liner lock size and thread for a FX .357 sniper barrel are M13x.5 witch is super fine thread and I have verified the thread pitch with a thread pitch gage from Snap-on and it is .5. Here is a link for a M13x.5 tap www.hdchasen.com/metric-tap-m13-x-5. I'm in the process of getting a adaptor made that will keep my barrel tensioned at all times and can remove moderator to put gun in case.
So this torque is actually pulling against the barrel index grubscrew ? I have a lothar walther.20 barrel on one of my impacts and it really really shoots
That’s how internal suspension bridges work. You can add a bushing that is calibrated to compress at the tension you want. Another solution is heavier/bull barrel. Is that something you would ever consider making? I bet it would help people in competition even more so if they don’t already know how to tune for harmonics.
Hi enest I'm just about to change the barrel on my mk3 wild cat I have a compact soi want to shoot slugs so would my my best be be a 600mm serpoier heavy liner be the one to get and what would be the best power to shoot fx hibrids thanks so much I have learnt so much watching your blogs hayd.
Good Stuff Ernest! My JSAR works on the same principal. A shame JSAR has had such a bad run of luck! Did you get the message on the .22 FX Superior Barrel liner test sent at you at work? I really would like your input on it. KnifeMaker/Mike
Interesting...... as are all of your mod videos. But for some of us who live in apartments and are without a shop or access to one, it's just something else interesting to watch. It would be great to know if there is a supply source for these carbon tubes, cut to spec. that we could purchase. Looks like an easy mod but for guys like me, guess we'll have to stick to the o-rings for now.
Hi Ernest: The problem I see here is that if you've taken the time to "align" your barrel liner properly so the high point of the liner is at the 12 o'clock position, when the carbon fiber tensioning sleve is torqued down, since it's tight against the liner it will turn the liner thereby ruining your liners alignment. :/
How much is the cost for the outer carbon fiber as well as the inner carbon fiber that you siliconed the the barrel liner to. I would be interested in placing and order for both of it is not an extreme expense.
I spoke to Jessica at FX today and you were in a training meeting. But she did say that these carbon fiber kits might be available in a week? :-). Oh hell yes!!
Most of my barrels are a heavy 14mm and the tube was right on. Or vice versa depends on calipers but I had to sand either way. Well worth the effort. Now I am working on the same thing over the shroud with thinner material. It is compressed into the lip around the shroud and is showing even more promise as far as accuracy and damping controll. The outer carbon uses the same principle as the inner barrel and rubber o rings are used to fill the gap and absorb vibration. Next level!
For over the shroud is id 30x32 od mm was used with O ring spacer filling gap. Keeps it light! Looks tight. Cut 1/16 long and hand torque. Amazing accuracy.
Hi Emest You have so many great videos and ideals for us but I find it hard to buy the items you are showing. Can you give me a web site to buy the items? I see other people asking the same thing .
🤣 you haven’t realised yet that ain’t no one ever going to help on here? Some blokes know how to make these things etc and the fk y’all attitude is always so blatant, these vids are like a show off hiding behind the premise of being helpful! fk em mate, use this place for ideas then take your expensive piece of kit to a trusted tuner 👍 😎🤙
Why can't FX use this concept together with the barrel tuner? Ernest: Don't you think putting these 2 mods (barrel tensioning to reduce droop and harmonic tuner) together will give FX customers the best solution for not using the solid barrel?
He made this like 3/4 years before Fx even dreamed about it lol 😅it’s thanks to people like earnest that fx has made many successful adaptations to the rifles
