I gotta say, I think the car dealership soundtracks from Gran Turismo 2 are some of the best in any racing game. Who’s to argue that South City ISN’T one of the greatest musical mediums of our time.
1:29 Singularity needs more recognition,it's such a great game. i replay that literally every year with my yearly Dark Souls playthroughs hasn't even watched the full video yet but i already subbed because of that hidden gem.
For me, the greatest of all time is Nier Automata. The soundtrack switching from these grand orchestral pieces when you are supposedly defending the safety of mankind into these subdued, melancholic tracks when it's just the androids alone or when everything falls apart matches the emotions you feel while playing. Not to mention the final credits song. Oh my god the final credits song. Makes me cry every time. It always brings me back to those powerful emotions at the end of the game. The soundtrack really solidified that game as one of my favorite games of all time
I can still remember and listen to soundtracks from older video games, especially Bungie's Halo games. Most modern AAA games have very forgettable soundtracks that I almost immediately forget after playing through them. Even older Call of Duty games had better OSTs than the recent ones. Very forgettable. They freakin had the legend Hans Zimmer do the original MW2 2009's soundtrack. Damn good.
Hotline Miami 1+2 changed my life music wise. I was full on metalhead, then found the OST's for those, and went full on synthesizer and drum machine nerd in less than a year. Now I make my own music. Thank you Devolver Digital.
Old blizzard games have mighty OSTs. Sc1-2 and Diablo 1-2 was breathtaking. In recent times From software nailed game osts. Full scale orchestras, amazing songs. A little bonus for my very old and awesome indie RTS games: KKND2 and Tribal Rage. They also have solid OSTs.
Blasphemous has bangers out the blood helmet, and even though I think Blasphemous 2 might be a little inferior to it's big brother in the music (and other) departments, I dont think a single song got me as hyped to fight a boss as De Blanca Mantilla from the Benedicta fight in a long time
The soundtracks of Skyrim and Witcher 3 will always live rent-free in my head for the rest of my life. Other games too. I think Cyberpunk's soundtrack is becoming very memorable to me which I never expected.
I’ll be honest I don’t think game soundtracks are all that memorable in the first place. I very rarely go “ooooo that song is just tight.” However most of the tracks I enjoy listening to are from newer games. I can put the subnautica track on in the background and relax, I can play Reabs lament and that swell almost gets me every time (god damnit he deserved better), and I bought GGStrive because I heard alone infection and love the subhuman self plus all of the rest because you’re really paying $60 for the sound track the game is just a bonus. Like yeah maybe some AAA franchises are slipping in music quality but those franchises as a whole are slipping in quality. MW2 is fun, but it’s not “I can sit here and play for hours” fun. Like that game gets boring fast unless you’re playing shrimpment because that’s a blast. Goobi making mediocre tracks is just a reflection of the games they are making. Then you get indie games and the big AAA projects that haven’t given up and you get things like hollow knight, lies of P, GOW 4-5, metal hellsinger, doom, inscription, the dead space remake, cyberpunk, and holy hell did blue point cook with the sound design and soundtrack revamp on demon’s souls. Go look up the storm king from the remake and audiophiles will literally jizz their pants.
