I'm excited about this creator collab with these autistic adults living on the spectrum. They answered the question "If I could take a pill to cure my autism, would I?" Did everyone say the same thing or did we have different views on this? We know when we have autism there are various struggles and deficits we live with on a daily basis, but does the bad outweigh the good? What would you say to answer this question, comment below!

I think that for me autism is not a net positive. But I still don't want a cure because I would no longer exist if the autism was removed. So no.

OK. I didn't know your channel, it was never recommended to me. I saw Orion's post so now I subscribed! Autism cost me all my relationships, but no, I wouldn't take the pill since it would change the way I am thinking and destroy my analytical way of seeing the world. And I would never have met people like YOU! Greets from Germany!

That was a fabulous video! I know I said I was going to try to send a video in but in true AUDHD form l procrastinated. My job environment is overwhelming. There are days I wish it was easier so I wasn't apologizing for everything I do or say. No pill for me. I don't think I could handle NT relationships. I don't understand how they do it everyday. It doesn't make sense to me. I would rather be me.

Excellent collab Jenny! I really enjoyed hearing everyone's opinions and reasons. I'd have to say no to an autism pill, but yes to a pill that enables my mind to reframe negative thoughts so that their rigidity diminishes. I hope that makes sense! 😊

Thank you LIz...it is a daily barage of negative thoughts, isn't it Liz? I would like to go one day without autism and see what that is like. What's it like to walk into a room and not constantly be wondering if I'm gesturing or "acting normal" or my always needed scripts that don't always work. LOL

When I compare my 18month autism research knowledge with all memories i have about her , having same sensory issues with smells and sound as she has, the unexplainable feeling "i know we are the same", how once her "i must be normal" mask slipped when i played her cello music for the first time and she cried from it as i do while mirrored my "t-rex arms" I am so convinced she is autistic and I have no doubts in me. I self-diagnosed her just for myself to know. I do not want to change her life with explaining what autism is + she has "light" dementia so it would be close to impossible when she has lost lots of memories.@@autisticjenny

I think I would take the pill, assuming no side effects. The main reason is that autism and schizophrenia make it hard to follow my special interest in a career due to executive dysfunction. I also hate my meltdowns and I’ve never been able to control them effectively. If I could gain emotional control for the first time in my life I would be so happy! I don’t know how much my executive dysfunction would improve without autism but I think it would be a significant amount that will probably allow me to do much better with my job.
@autisticjenny
@autisticjenny 4 месяца назад
Thanks for sharing. I get that. I say the meltdowns are no fun for sure. Personally I don't think they ever will come out with a pill to cure autism. It would be too complicated. It would have to change our wiring. I am getting to where I mostly appreciate my difference, but I too work and it's a struggle on the job, mainly with the social aspect.

I’ve always felt a connection to the x-men, and it’s a great metaphor for marginalized groups. There is a movie where they can “cure” the mutants of their x-gene and it create a lot of interesting complex questions. Personally I think if people were educated properly about autism and accommodating and understanding of the challenges autistic people face, this question wouldn’t come up, but I am also lower support needs, and deal with constant guilt about my meltdowns and may not answer this question in this same way in a burnout, but personally I’d rather try and make the world more understanding of autism as most issues that autistic people face are due to having neurotypical standards enforced on them.

Very good discussion!!! I don't think our world needs to fix autism necessarily. I see it as more of everyone is a computer - some of us are Apple Macs (neurotypical) but others are Windows based (or maybe even some Linux or Unix) and in the realm of Windows we have Microsoft systems, Google systems, even Android devices. We can all accomplish many of the same goals (but some of us have more memory or faster processors) and each one of us has great value and great potential if given optimal operating conditions. These differences make us neurodivergent. IF we are educated about it we are able to function (work) together in a way that minimizes frustrations to each other. It requires more patience, kindness and ability to help each other be successful at the task at hand. Neurotypicals can imagine if they landed on another planet and the inhabitants looked like them but the things they said and did to relate to these inhabitants made them raise their eyebrows in question of them even though they were perfectly capable but did things differently because their pathways in their brains were operating similarly yet differently. My experience with generally average to high IQ ASD people have shown me to never judge because what you think you see is not always what you get! Got to keep aware of different perspectives and how we should all work together to make a win-win situation whenever possible!

No, I wouldn’t take the pill because thinking about it I would be afraid I would become like everyone else and go along with things like the general NT mass of people do. I highly value my ability to think as an individual and see the world as I do. I do see beauty where NT’s see nothing! I have an ability to feel a joy just for being alive it seems they do not. If we flip it around and look at what NT’s can’t do maybe that will give another viewpoint. Listening to a documentary about how we wouldn’t have the world we live in now with electronics and Nasa innovations and so much more without Autistic people that would be awful in my opinion. It has it’s challenges for sure like being misunderstood so much. But I think it would be worse to be so vulnerable to rejection that I molded myself to whatever other people wanted just to be accepted. I can’t see a happy world for me without what I know of as special interests now either. I know some NT’s have hobbies I guess but most I know don’t and their worlds seem so boring to me. Yet, they are always striving for something they don’t have. I am recently diagnosed and more thankful now than ever for seeing the world as I do! I think I am thankful that this world hasn’t been able to smash me into its mold and make into whatever it wanted me to be basically because I just never understood the messages sent😂. I think being Autistic actually saved me from being squished into a mold of someone else’s ideas of who and what I should be. So there is that benefit of having the communication “problems” in my opinion. Sorry if this is too long or confusing! Thank you for the videos Jenny!
