This video is meant to encourage people (especially women) to go after their dreams, no matter what age they are. One of my dreams was to go back to school. I hope that my story helps to encourage you to go after what is in your heart to do.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I turned 48 in August and started back to college 2 days later! I only had one college credit that transferred. I’ve been a substitute teacher for 12 years and decided to go back so I can teach full time. I’m excited about my journey. One of my students is actually in my English class.

Hi Dear! I am 39 and have just earned a master’s degree in Legal Studies from ASU. I had some people that had told me negative things about me going to school before. I have five children, ages from six to fifteen years old. If anyone is reading my post, please don’t let others discourage you. You want to go back, go for it! We live only once. I promise you can do it!!!

Well I just got my associated degree(class of 2012) and now I'm working on my bachelors and I'm 36. School is so much more easier to me nowadays and it seems like I can handle it much better along with life.

***** Hi! It was the same with me, school was much easier this time around. I think it's because my perspective was different and I went back on my own terms; not because of anyone else's expectations. I wish you the best in your journey & thank you for replying.

Hello Marsha, I've been looking for a while for a channel that discusses mature women going back to college. When I came across your channel I was so happy to hear your story! I too am a 40 plus year old woman who went back to college to pursue a new career after being fired from a job that wasn't rewarding nor satisfying! It's been very difficult to fix family and friends into this equation. I'm graduating Spring of 2015 with my undergrad degree in Social Welfare, and will be applying for the MSW program in hopes of becoming a Social Worker...Thanks for this video, you are awesome :) Oh yeah I'm a new subscriber to your channel.

What university did you choose to go to? I wish you the best!

Thank you for this inspiring video. I decided to go back to college at the age of 30, started working the moment I was old enough to legally do so in what turned out to be a job I hate (with a passion). Yes it's a challenge but I think having to do even one more year in that job I hated was even more of a challenge. Women like you are an inspiration for others, it gave me courage. This video is very encouraging. After I graduated last year (2014) with my bachelor's degree, I knew that I wanted to pursue my masters but was unsure of how I was going to do it--in class or online. I really don't have the energy to physically attend, (due to the demands of my job) but I still want to earn my masters degree. I'm a little nervous about the online classes but I'm going to give it a try. Seeing you accomplish yours is enough motivation for me. I'm sure by now you've graduated (smile) so "CONGRATS TO YOU!"...........oh yeah, I'm also 45 and a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2! (wink)!!

Going back to school after 40 is something that I did . I'm actually starting and I'm 45. It makes sense for me because I'm staying in the field that I'm in. So the networking part is mostly out of the way. I don't know that I'd recommend changing fields at 40 . It's a long time to reestablish yourself

Word of caution: choose your course of study wisely. A degree in Arts, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Psychology, Criminal justice, and any other related fields are a waste of time and money if you plan to use that degree to find work. Think about an Engineering Degree, or some type of Science, Technology or Medicine related field. This is not only where the money is, but more importantly, where the demand is. Go to any government human resource employment website; they are in desperate need of civil engineers, and an endless variety of technology related jobs. FYI.
@TheSpiritLife705
@TheSpiritLife705 9 лет назад
Thank you for your response! Ultimately we all must choose what make us happy and fulfilled. With that being said, I must add that my BA is in Psychology, and I knew at the outset of pursuing this degree that if I wanted to have a career that could sustain me financially I would have to seek an advanced degree. I did the research and found that a degree in psychology would not afford me the career opportunities that I sought. So, yes - choose wisely. Thanks again for your insight and wisdom. MJ

How about business marketing. That is what I re-enrolled it. I am guessing there will always be a demand in the marketing field. I am not inclined to try medical or science (don't they go hand in hand, ha!)

Ensure the school is REGIONALLY accredited. This is the highest standard of education in the US. Typically, NATIONALLY accredited schools, such as vocational and tech schools, inhibit you from transferring credits. Reputable schools are regionally accredited. Thanks for the encouragement. I a looking to go back, but I have some questions about getting prepared financially. I have a small savings and wanted to know if I would have to use that when applying for financial aid.

1toyotaccelica I'm curious to know what you decided... did you go back? I'm pretty sure I touched on some financial aid tips in my videos. I'm sure you have already done this, but when you fill out your FASFA you will be asked about savings. I wish you the best!

I'm 41, work full time, single and I've been wanting to go back to school, but then my mom had terminal cancer, my dad had a quadruple bypass then when I thought things were stable so I could try again my dad had 2 strokes back to back so now he's completely dependent on me so I don't think I can go back to school now. It sucks. But I don't even know what I would want to major in. I've bounced from military to fire department to sheriff's department so I really don't know what I'd want to do or what I should go for. I don't know anything really about the private job sector.

I'm so sorry about your mom and dad. When you are ready, maybe check out online classes. I just might be easier for you since you attend classes from home and you have wider options for school choices. I wish you all the best & thank you for reaching out.

DimplesDeep1 Hi! I missed your response, somehow it was in the SPAM folder. To answer your question, YES! I experienced a lot of fear, especially when I first enrolled. I had to just push past my fear and do what I knew in my heart and mind was the best decision for me and my family. I can truly say, now that it has been a year since my graduation that I did make the best decision. I love my career. Thank you for your response and I wish you the best!

I'm 34 year old today I went to Bronx Community college in the Bronx. I felt so nervous because my age and also because my English is not so good I was really nervous I'm not sure if I can make it. Your story inspire me a lot I have three girls one is 15 , one is 13 and the little one is four I raise my three girls working as a child care provider gave me the opportunity to spend time with my daughters and family at the same time make money. Should I start school that's the question that I have in my mind? And sorry if I make a lot of mistakes but little by little and learning more English.

I am 33 and what to get my master's. It's already been 10 years I have finished my bachelor's. I m earning quite well , but I feel there is something more to get done. I feel anxious of myself and fear people's judgement. I feel scared and overwhelmed.

I understand where you are coming from. I've come to learn that some people will judge no matter what you do. That is something they will have to work on within themselves. You may as well do what feels right for you. I was so scared when I went back. I thought the work would be too difficult...I was too old..It was too expensive. I found that I was much smarter than I had thought. For me, completing college was a huge confidence booster. I encourage you to go after what you want for your life, even if you are scared... #NoRegrets :)

I had people tell me how I am too old to go back to college. I just turned 57 years old and I want to go back and finish my degree. I'm only a sophomore This young lady told me (while sitting in my math class) that I should drop out of Kent State University and go to a vocational school and learn a trade. She said that I was too old. I got upset. I want to finish college. Even my family is against me.

Hi Maurice. Thank you for subscribing to my channel and watching my video. I am sorry that you’ve experienced such discouraging feedback from people. My thoughts are that this is YOUR life and only YOU are responsible for doing what makes you happy. Sometimes people are well meaning and unaware how hurtful their words and actions are. But that is their journey. You have your own. Do what is in your heart to do. I wish you all the best. Keep me posted🤗

I am considering going back to school. I am 41. I'm in the IT field, and right now it's just not fulfilling to me. I have done most of my core requirements in the CUNY schools. Some people would say since I've been in the IT field for ten years I should just stick with it but maybe I'm burned out, I don't know. Anyone have any suggestions?

Find a field that you feel you can either transition to and realistically live with and live on, or something that will supplement your current background perhaps and start from there.
@TheSpiritLife705
@TheSpiritLife705 10 лет назад
I apologize for not responding earlier than now. I agree with I kofie,\ - I would add that you consider finding something you enjoy in which you can earn a comfortable living. Burn out can make a person hate what they are doing. If you really don't want to do it anymore - perhaps it's time to re-evaluate. I hope this helps

Hi I'm going back to school at age 36. I have a 3 yr. Old and I want to be a social worker. Would love to chat with you you. I'm taking summer courses, they start this Tuesday. I'm so excited but nervous. I'm taking 3 courses. It's my math that I'm scared of I've got to start at 098. I do however already have 18 hours that transferred from 2002. Would very much like to chat.

Steven, I apologize that I am just seeing your comment (and others'). I just learned how to access all of my comments. I thought I had responded to all of them - but found some from over 1 year ago that I received no notification for. Congrats on going back! Have you graduated or close to it? Math intimidated me as well. I can relate. If you still would like to chat, you can email me at thespiritlife705@gmail.com. Thank you for reaching out!
