Best ones here are Kelly and Halle. Kelly is masterful at knowing why the original is so loved whilst still sprinkling "Kelly"into it. Sometimes she doesn't detract hardly at all from the original because she knows she doesn't need to, nor should. In short, she understands 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'. Halle is talented and clearly took whatever direction she got to deliver the song in the musical theatre style...and still sprinkled enough "Halle" to make it different. I don't think many people appreciate how hard of a job it it to take any song that isn't yours and put your own stamp on it, while still honoring the original, especially if it's one of the iconic ones that the entire world knows. And as a former actor, her acting wasn't even that bad. It could have used to little extra help to put her over the top but she went in the right direction at at least.
Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce are the queens of covers. Kelly's rendition of Another Sad Love Song is simply perfect. Her tone, the high note ... She made it her own but we still hear Toni in there. Amazing. And Bey's The Beautiful Ones/Sex On Fire on Glastonbury 2011 ... Oh man ! And that time she did Goo Goo Dolls' Iris in 2012. They don't get tired of slaying.

If there’s one artist I can trust for a cover it’s definitely Beyoncé she never did a bad tribute her entire career except the Christmas song: those runs was quite irritating 😂😂

He did a video on riffs and runs in pop music and mentioned Perrie and Jade but not Leigh even though she is the best runner/riffer. Leigh has done sm vocally and sonically but he constantly only mentions the other 2 but not her (which isn’t an issue) but is a bit questionable for someone you would consider your bias ig. Even with Leigh’s 2 covers and debut he hasn’t said anything. Personally I think the videos he posts would really be targeted/appreciated by the K-POP market, and unfortunately that just doesn’t happen to be a market that Leigh is prominent in

The biggest problem with Rita Ora was that song is tailor-made for Kate. I don't think anyone can cover it cause it's so weird that only Kate could. Bring in any great vocalist they would still fail it.

You're spot on. I mean " Running up that Hill " is one of Kate's least weird songs but . . . people don't seem to get it when covering it. A LOT of the covers were done just out of hype to follow a trend and be a part of a singing challenge it seems like? But Rita obviously has ZERO respect or understanding for or of the song. The same thing happens with Florence + the Machine's songs. No one really does a good cover 9.9/10 . Because she has so many idiosyncrasies that change texture and timber or color that other people singing the songs often feels bland and lacking. You'll never hear a good cover of most of her songs. Kelly Clarkson managed to do a pretty good cover or two and that's about it. But she has been hardcore stanning Florence for over a decade. So when it comes to artists like that, no one but people with real respect for them can seem to understand how to approach their music.
With Christina it’s a matter of… On what side of the bed she woke up on that day. Lol! Because yes, the frustrating thing is that she has the tools, the map, the navigation. But she’s gonna do whatever she wants anyway, because she Ive come to understand, is allergic to the Safe & Boring route. And you know what? Ive come to appreciate it because at least she provides an unexpected offering. Even if it means not EVERYONE will like it.
YEP. This right here. This is what puts Kelly over the top for me. Kelly not only is a more technically apt vocalist and knows her instrument, but also knows “just because she can doesn’t mean she should”. Christina has no concept of that idea at all nor does she understand what her instrument does. She THINKS she does but still has a wide knowledge gap when compared to a good few of her contemporaries.
I was at Rita Ora’s performance lol. It was Rock in Rio Brazil festival. The fun part was that Rita is not that famous there, so most people doesn’t know her or most of her songs. She was after one of the most famous Brazilian singers and before Megan Thee Stallion and the headliner Dua Lipa.
I actually think Halle was the best casting choice for Ariel, she has the same energy and also Halle looks young and can sing. Sorry but it would be weird for me to see someone that looks older and can't sing just for the sick of "looking like the character".

Talking about covers and one of the queens of covers, Tori Kelly, isn’t featured. She showed off her prowess during the pandemic doing near-perfect spontaneous covers from sight-reading chords and lyrics on her Instagram show. Not to mention her revamp of Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing that is often being covered on tv competition shows.

Rita and Christina did a very good job and I stand by that lol there are all the way worst covers out there that could have made the list but thats just my opinion.
Rita's was . . . absolutely terrible. It had promise if she ever RE-performed it, fixing the vocal overlay or setting she had for her mic dominating the first half. UNTIL she decided to do a vocal showcase , swap genres, run her own vocals into the ground, not seem to know where she was vocally going, losing her timing . . . Like the pause and then break into drama was like " Oh, what's she doing? This is actually a clever placement and pause. I think I'm going to like this " and then she Millie Bobbie Browns it like a Pride parade.
Christina got a standing ovation for her cover of Stormy Weather...and trust me if she did a bad job the crowd at that even would have let her know. Not sure what you heard....
Lena Horne, not Horner. Christina over-sung the song but she's definitely capable of editing herself and singing songs with more restraint. Search her version of the Nina Simone song "I love you Porgy." It's stunning--so sultry, velvety and smooth. Gorgeous cover.
I think Lizzo didn't get the essence the song needed I liked Rita's version of Dancing queen. It wasn't a complete cover but yeah, I do listen to it every once in a while
Not to my ears... that cover of Whitney was so cracked up, and I don't buy that it's more "soulful" or emotionally connected. It's not, it's theatrical crack vocals

Most only associate great breath control with sustaining notes and don't recognize that riffs and runs, especially complex ones. If that was you running out of breath a bit on that G2 (/F#2) then that is a vocal strength of yours. Life has surely been 'lifing' but I'm trying to take a day at a time, while putting my best. Try not to worry about what tomorrow will bring as well, Therefore do not worry about tomorrow as well, "for tomorrow will worry about its own things".
Harry is a good vocalist. He always tries to improve to sound better. He has a rich tone with a raspy sound added to it. He will continue to improve in every single record that he releases.
Whitney Houston is not the original singer of the greatest love of all. George Benson is the original singer. That being said, a lot of Whitney Houston's songs are cover songs which is a testament to how great she was because most people didn't even realize she was singing other people's songs.

I hear improvements but I also notice she is becoming more strenuous and throaty, shes also can't hit higher notes with the ease she could before. the only reason people like jodi benson version is because it came out first, I have nothing against it but I can tell when a cover is better than the original without bias in mind
