Finally. You mentioned the tethers. A must when you plan to mount your GoPro to the car/motorcycle/boat/surfboard/snowboard having a teether hooked on the waterproof case or to the mounting feet keeps your action camera safe if the mount dislodges or unhooks. Just make sure the other end is hooked on the bindings/car mirror/railing of boat/or around a seat etc etc...

Yep, best thing is to loop it around itself on something that's not going to budge and then through the thumb screw, that way you have zero worries at all and can concentrate on driving.

I took the Pgytech one with me to Iceland, and it was winter, snowy, freezing, and it held on through some quite horrible weather, some of which I didn't want to exit the car lol, the others I haven't had a chance to test in bad conditions.

You're welcome! For dashboard mounting nothing actually, it's just not a good surface to mount to. I'd mount to the window inside or the headrest rails with a grip.

It would have helped to see the Pgytech swivel mount in action being fixed to the windshield. Every mount that I have tried, the camera ends up being upside down, which I hate.

Great video and it really helped me make my decision on which mount to get to place on the dash of my car (pgytech) outside of the car though, like on the back window or on the side of the car I'm a bit hesitant to try it out considering how expensive a gopro is. Will it hold it in place pretty securely on the road? Thanks again for the video!

Sure, it should hold, it’s very strong, but like I mentioned, I’d use a safety cable of some sorts to make sure if it does loosen it won’t fall, it’ll take you 5 minutes and you’ll be certain nothing will go wrong.

The one I use all the time nowadays is the DJI suction cup for small cams, it is great, small and sticks well, just make sure to ALWAYS use tethers. They will save your camera and potentially someone’s life if your camera does come off when driving.

That'll be fun on a drag racer! Sure, but not great for bigger cameras except the Manfrotto. Any camera you stick on there, especially when drag racing should be double safety attached with steel cables.

You’re welcome! The Delkin is a good choice, very sturdy construction!! Possibly, depending on how round the helmet is. I think a GoPro sticky would work better on a helmet though.

I think most of them should be fine, unless that glass is super curved, but I can't imagine it's that bad. I would still go for the PGYTech, however, they just dropped a 3 cup suction cup, they sent it out to, so I'll test it and let you guys know what I think of it asap!

Those are pretty cool! I had problem with 2 Mounts I bought, once I put it on my hood it sticks on speed but once I slow down or stop at a light it falls off 🤦🏻‍♀️ I tried them on the hood, roof, rear fenders and same problem

No way! That's not good, I'd hate for my camera to fall off! The PGYTech one is great for action cameras, they've also dropped a 3 legged one for mirrorless cameras. Make sure the area is squeaky clean and dry before you attach, and I personally always use steel plastic coated cables just in case things go wrong.

Having used all of them on more than a few occasions, there isn’t a difference between them when it comes to vibration, from the GoPro to the Manfrotto they’re all as stiff as each other when sucked on, or at least they are if you correctly attach them. To tell you the truth on a car it’s minimal, depending on surface, on a bike more, and on a scooter it’s a nightmare.

Well, that really depends if you're mounting a GoPro or a larger camera, if it's a larger camera then Manfrotto is the way to go, and I'd recommend a couple of them.

I live in canada and during the winter it's freezing, I usually use the 3m gopro to stick the camera on the body of the car (very fast cars) and it works fine, but if I want to change the angle I have to remove it, so I waste a 3m each time I want to do that. So that mounts you introduced would be perfect. But I dont know if it will stick also in cold weather. I just discovered your channel, I watched lot of videos in 3 days (I also have a drone and a gopro so it's interesting). Thank you I find the content very useful and you're natural while presenting.

I've tried this on my Skoda a few times in the very cold, and by that I mean -5 degrees, and it held on fine, the car was squeaky clean though! I always, always use safety lines though, I prefer to be safe than sorry, as even a $400 GoPro falling under then car would really screw up my week, never mind the bigger cinema cameras. My issue with most of these (I've had quite a few on your list as well!) on a car is the transmission of fine vibrations to my GoPro Hero 7 and now the Hero 9...Very Frustrating. That is, until I bought a similar product as your beast, the Manfrotto 241FB pump cup. I purchased the 4.5" SeaSucker w/ LP Housing on sale for $32.00 ($8.00 with shipping here in the US where I am.) This is a "mini" beast, and it has the suction pump...sticks like J&B Weld! Great video and I do recommend the MagWheels one too!! I have a similar product by the company SNAP. Love the magnetic mounts! CHEERS!

The product not the same but the attachment is still applicable for attaching a tether to the old and new GoPros. My only concern with attaching the tether to another adhesive anchor is that the adhesive anchor could fall off too at the same time the camera and mount dislodge. Of course! It's something I do differently depending on where I mount. I do not use second suction cups or adhesive mounts. If it's on the door I loop the cable through itself on the door handle and the other end I put the thumb screw through, that was that GoPro isn't going anywhere if it drops. If it's on the back or front of the car I'll find something inside the car to loop it through, so I'll use one of the longer cables that comes in the pack. That's basically how I roll, and it's 100% safe every time.

The best one for your action camera is no doubt the PGYTech suction cup, it's small and very easy to use. That's the one I'd recommend the most having used it a lot since this video.

That's a bit of bad luck! The GoPro one is good, but it's like you say not super user friendly. The PGYTech one is super fast to setup as soon and very sturdy. I'm confident it stays on when I stick it on!

That really depends on the setup you have, how bumpy the road is, how windy it is. I recommend using tethers every single time so you never have to worry if it holds or not.

@PhillipSkraba I'm thinking of using Dji pocket 3 on the roof on the car and in the car. It seam like it's extra sensitive to small vibrations then gopros for example. Some of Those cheap plastic mounts may not be that good I think.

Well, if it's mounted and it has a gimbal, yes there will be vibrations, you'll find a smoother ride with a camera that has no gimbal.

@@yamahass66 Vibration dampers are usually pretty expensive, and the cheap ones are either crap or need to heavy a load for them to be of any use on the Pocket 3. I've been meaning to put it on the car for ages, might do that this weekend when in the Alps and see how it turns out, drop a video for you.

Does the GoPro Hero 9 have an Auto Gain which is always on, and can’t be turned off? I am trying to motovlog, and when I replicate some video’s on youtube I see that my microphone connected to my iphone can’t handle the volume of my voice, while the GoPro with the exact same microphone setup connected to the media mod can handle the volume. How is this possible? Just to be clear, the exact same setup was replicated: type of microphone, microphone location, deadcat, inside the helmet, everything... Main question: does the GoPro Hero 9 have an Auto Gain setting that is build-in? Because if so: I will be purchasing the media mod with a lavalier mic :)

I think it's because wind is turned to auto. If you turn wind off and raw on, good things start to happen. Towards the end of the month there is an expected update where mic functions will be re-added and hopefully will work a lot better.

I wish there was a hybrid suction mount with a magnetic detach of the gopro from the mount...is there?

You could use the Snap Mounts to mount it all together, that should work!

You could also use Ulanzi magnetic mounts to convert just about any mount to a magnetic mount.

PGYTech actually just released a couple of new suction cups, one of them has triple cups which will give you a little more confidence, so I'd recommend that for Costa Rica - bit.ly/3sP3BU9

Sure, you can do that, you just have to mount the suction cup inside and face the camera towards yourself.

I wouldn't call this a review, this was rather a "which I recommend" type of video from my experience. They look identical when mounted. They mount to the car, the only unstable one is the Joby, apart from that they're all identical, some will hold larger loads though, like I mentioned in the video. If you're mounting an action cam, go with the PGYTech, if you're mounting a mirrorless or bigger, go with a few of the Manfrotto suckers, that's how I roll. PGYTech just dropped a 3 suck mount, pretty cool too, I'll drop a video on that pretty soon.

Sure, it really depends on where you connect it. If it's on the door, hook it through the door handle, if it's on the boot hook it around something inside. The end hook I always put through the thumb screw, that was it's always secure and safe.

@@PhillipSkraba lol, I'm American. I tested it on my fridge and couldn't get it off with my small hands. Had to call in reinforcements. That was definitely funny. Personally, I need a mount that's strong but also one I can remove. Perhaps next time, you could suggest using a piece of cloth between car and magnet to add leverage in removal. Using the Go Pro screw also worked for leverage. :)

That is EXACTLY what I did!!!! I stuck it to my fridge and couldn't get it off. I had so slide it off the edge of the fridge to get it off. Excellent mount. So cloth, no, that'll slide. The best thing would be a thin piece or rubber or silicone, like a silicone pad from Ikea or something that grips like rubber and won't slide.

Those braided steel cables are way overkill for what you need. 2nd those metal crimps on the steel cables are sure way of scratching your lens or lcd on the back of the camera. Also those cables are way to long. With a cable so long with most mounts that length will allow camera to dangle wildly or even worse hit the ground. A cable half that length is ideal. It’s cheaper and more easily customized to make a tether line by using a thin nylon string. Tie a simple bowline knot on one end and use a mini S-biner or mitten hook on the other end to clip it easily on a anchor point. I have a video posted on what I am talking about

Nope. I don't agree with you. I've been attaching cameras to cars and motorbikes for years and depending on where you attach it, a cable, two, or even three is needed to keep your camera safe. I would never trust my camera on a nylon string. I've had cameras fall off in the past, so I always use steel cables, and, no they won't scratch your lens or lcd, I've never had that happen. I use these cables everywhere on a car, around the bonnet, around a door, through a window, basically anywhere, even with extra suction cups just to make sure. You hit a bump in the road, go off road, use this on an atv, even on a straight road, slightly moist conditions, it really doesn't matter, I always secure my gear, better safe than sorry. These cables are all different lengths, and sometimes I need 20cm and sometimes I need 2m. It's not overkill, it's keeping $400 safe.

@@PhillipSkraba no need for that steel braided cable its over kill yes the steel cable works so does a 5 inch metal chain doesnt mean a 5 inch chain is needed to protect your go pro.... The nylon line is capable of holding about 80 kilos so its more then good enough. I been doing this since you been in diapers with much larger rigs or camera equipment. Those steel cables will buffer in the wind and depending on how they are positioned they will scratch the car. The camera is a mere 4oz no need for the steal cable. Maybe for the manfrotto suction mount and ball head because those are heavy.

Unless you were mounting a Panaflex Gold in the early 80's I seriously doubt that, and if you were, my sincere apologies. These steel cables are covered in a soft plastic, they wouldn't scratch a kitten, neither do they buffer in the wind, and I've used them on so many different shoots on different cars and never had a problem, they also only cost $10, so they're worth having in your kit bag. They're pre-crimped and ready to use instantly, which to me is a big deal. The crimp will do just about as much damage as a mitten hook or carabiner, and you can always gaffer tape it if needed for extra protection. As they're cheap and ready to use I have a bunch of these I use either when attaching a GoPro or a Sony on a gimbal with multiple suction cups, they always do the job. If we're rigging bigger boys we use ratchet straps. Just to clear the air, I'm not being rude, as reading through this it may sound that way, I'm just sharing my experience, as you are, and we know that we all have our own personal ways of rigging, and I've seen my fair share of crazy rigs.
