Woodpecker TV brings you highlights from Woodbridge Town's 7-1 victory over Gorleston FC in The Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
GORLESTON 1 WOODBRIDGE TOWN 7 (HT 0-4)
Woodbridge Town are second in the table after a comprehensive win and after goalkeeper Alfie Stronge failed a late fitness test, Aaron Churchyard yet again prove his versatility making two excellent saves as he proved his worth in goal. 2 goals from Jake Rudge and further efforts from George Bowman, Mark Ray, Kelsey Trotter and a wonder goal from Substitute Nathan Read clinched the win.
Bowman's free kick went over the bar after a foul on Carlos Edwards after 2 minutes and Trotter's effort after 15 minutes went inches wide of the post for the Woodpeckers. Churchyard's first touch of the ball after 17 minutes for the visitors but after 29 minutes from Luke Mallett's accurate cross, Rudge made it 1-0 with a well taken finish. Bowman made it 2-0 with a superb low finish past home keeper Connor Milligan after 32 minutes and Bowman's back heel after 38 minutes found Ray and from his pass Mallett increased the scoreline to 3-0 with an excellent finish. A rare home attack a minute later and Peter Lambert's shot hit the bar and from the rebound Churchyard denied the home striker with a superb stop. Rudge's lob beat Milligan after 43 minutes and it was 4-0 and just before half time the busy Milligan produced an amazing triple save to deny Edwards, Trotter and Ray.
Ray's effort was saved by Milligan after 46 minutes after another superb move from the away side and from Edward's cross, Ray headed home and it was 5-0 after 48 minutes. Trotter increased the lead further after 50 minutes with a good finish to make it 6-0 and home Centre Half Keith Vincent's clearance hitting his own post with Milligan beaten after 53 minutes. Ray's shot tested Milligan after 64 minutes and home Substitute Joel Watt's shot was deflected for a corner by another Churchyard save after 69 minutes. Away Substitute Read made it 7-0 after 80 minutes with an amazing strike from 25 yards that flew into the top corner of the net. The home side pulled a controversial goal back after 84 minutes when after Jake Green appeared to be fouled on the edge of the area, Connor Ingram made no mistake and it was 7-1. An excellent team performance spoiled by injuries to Mallett, Green and Rudge which are hopefully not too serious.
