Ayyyyy Jose, this one hit in the heart my friend, I'm the one who wrote you about this on your last video. I thank you for talking about this unconfortable topic for both sides, you nailed it in so many things, the more future immigrants are aware of this situation, the less shameful incidents will be, or at least, thats what I hope. I dare to give you guys some advice, first, if you want to come and live here, do it legally, goverment is about to change, and since the gentrification situation is becoming a huge issue, new requirements may be applied soon, so don't risk it; do some research before moving, rent first for a year or so, to see if you can deal with the new culture and end up willing to embrace it, as someone here said, it is not for everybody; learn how to say in spanish at least the things that are important for you, the incident in the coffee shop, was that the lady asked for two "cafes de la casa" (that means the house blend, which is usually the regular non fancy one) then she got upset because the server didn't tell her it was caffeined, so she claimed it was the employee's responsability to tell her, and sorry, no, it is not, if you can't drink caffeine, you should ask, cafe de la casa is almost always regular coffee all over the country, so, do some research guys, at least about medicine names, or things that may be harmful for you, allergies and stuff, no one has to know your needs; apply common sense to every situation and you will be fine, there are many safe places in Mexico, if you go to live in the expats bubbles, you will end up paying more and making life more difficult to mexicans, dare to live in other places. Love and blessings for you all.
Wow i had no idea the Lady at the coffee shop was complaining about Caffeine in her coffee! People like simply need to leave and go back to the USA where they can berate employees for no reason at all to their hearts content. That is just plain Horrible! Thank you so much for clarifying that and also thank you so much for sharing even more tips and knowledge. I really do wonder how much things will change after this coming election next month. Hope things keep changing for the better. It will be an interesting next few months that is for sure! Thanks again for sharing y Viva Mexico!
Do it legally? You can’t be serious 😆. I think you need to have that conversation with Mexicans coming to the States before you dare tell any one else to come legally. Secondly, those of us who are here have our residency or tourist visas.
Note to Self: Be nice while in Mexico :) Actually for me it's hard to not be nice in Mexico, where I spend my time the people are so welcoming and kind! I get more than my daily need for Hugs just visiting family and meeting the neighbors... it's great! Thanks for telling people to be NICE! :)
Spot on! I can't leave the states soon enough! Getting all my business in order to move to Mexico and love on the culture, food, locals, vibe and chill lifestyle. Thanks Jose!! 😊🙏🏽
Jose, I am from the US and I live in SW Mexico and have my residency and speak Spanish. The bottom line is you have to be here and it is a learning experience. Some people like it and some people do not..lo que es ! It is what it is ! Jose, Thank you for you perspective on life in Mexico
Yep "comportamento" is a big deal here. We live in Mexico City and stay away from the gringo areas. My Mexican wife keeps me schooled. To be honest, we can usually avoid gringos. By avoiding them another benefit is you speak less english so can improve your spanish too.
That is awesome! Same with me and my wife. Keeps me on the straight and narrow 😅 Keeps me away from toxic people and environments. Thanks for sharing! Viva Mexico!
I try to avoid the "expats", as they call themselves. I'd rather not see 'em. An ugly American is still an ugly American, and generally ignorant. Charge twice. That's what they do in Paris. 😅🎉🎉
My husband & I are so ready to get out of the states. We love Merida, the people, the food, history & so much more. I am proud to be an immigrant when I am in Merida & once we live there permanently in a few months. So many of these gringos are so entitled & rude! We are over every one of them.
Gurl...forget that word immigrant. Dont wear it as a badge of honor. If you say " I am an immigrant" to a Mexican, that says to them that you are 'passing thru'. When you move here in a more permanent way, you instead will be lovingly known as an Americano coming to live in Mexico. Yes.. you will be an Americano and not a 'passing thru immigrant'. Embrace it.
@@kellyname5733Don't speak for us, you people are immigrant just as anybody alse that moves to another country, what makes you think that you're different or special?🙄
Exactly right. Foreigners do get preferential treatment. You are the only RU-vidr saying this. In apartments too. Expats are buying rental properties and raising rent to get higher rents from other expats. Investment properties. I’ve seen an expat couple in SMA but 2 buildings and overnight raise the rent from 800 US to 1100. I was in that apartment. The expat was my neighbor. It wasn’t worth more than 800 But yes they got a renter. Another expat I heard. That was 5 years ago
Wow you make a great point. Many Greedy expats come out here and try to do business with only other expats and all they are really doing is taking advantage of these other expats. Just terrible all around. Thanks for sharing
People that are going to a country need to do a little bit of research so that they don't get in trouble by people. I personally think that people in the USA are not mature and lack values and principles.
When I first moved into my neighborhood, someone obviously didn’t want me here and kept throwing dog poop inside my garage gate (at least twice a week). I didn’t say anything to any neighbor about it, never asked if they saw who did it, NEVER called the police, never sat in the front window watching and never set up a camera. I would get a bag, put on some gloves, clean it up and wash the garage tiles. I continued to cheerfully speak to all of my neighbors as I walked up or down the street past their gates. The dog poop throwing stopped about a month later. Finally a neighbor told me that the previous US American who live in this house was always complaining about all the things you mentioned in your video, called the police several times and was angry when they told him there was nothing they could do. So when I moved in, they thought I would behave the same way. I’m glad I was able to let them see that we all don’t behave that way.
Oh wow! Sorry that happened to you. At least now you know what was going on and it eventually stopped. But i know what you mean i often times see people acting horribly out here and always. complaining Mexicans don't like them without ever realizing they are the problem. Thanks for sharing your story with us!
I want everyone to know this was over 8 months ago. ALL of my neighbors are very nice and friendly…the best group of people I’ve ever met. I’ll never know who did this (I’m guessing my neighbors know) but I’m sure whoever it was had a change of heart because everyone here treats me well.
Great Job as usual Jose!! You hit the nail on the head!! Gringos need to understand their in someone else's house here in Mexico!! Aaron from Queretaro!!!
Love you Jose. Love your individual spirit and not taking crap off anyone. Im also happy that you called out the crazy Karens who just have to 'blame' someone else. About your phone...I too got sick and tired of paying a crap ton of money for the top tier legacy phones. My cheap phone purchase kinda happened by accident. In my job my personal belongings cant be locked up sometimes, I work in the public and there are thieves everywhere. I have had 6 devices stolen out of my bag in the last 4 years. Sooo, I was able to buy a Nokia phone on sale for $89. Dang this thing works great. I also researched Chinese phones too. Im NEVER going to pay for an expensive phone again. The cheap phones are getting really great these days.
I'm a single woman who owns a house and I speak pretty decent Spanish, but every time I need something fixed, they try to take me for so much money! And I'm very polite! I had to have the fan changed in my refrigerator and they guy tried to charge me 3800 pesos! I was furious. It just keeps happening to the point I will delay and delay any repairs or try to learn repairs so I don't have to deal with them. It is just so disheartening.......
Well if it makes you feel any better I had a similar situation happen with my washing machine and I was furious at the quotes i was getting, so eventually I tried to locate the part myself and do it on my own only to figure out the reason they were charging so much was because of the part that needed to get replaced. Since the cost of repairing it was almost as much as a new one I opted in selling the washing machine for parts and just bought a new one. I think sometimes we forget that there are other factors contributing to the higher costs of certain things and we don't realize it has nothing to do with the actual mechanic or handy man. Hope this helps! Thanks for sharing!
@@JoseArteagaTravels I understand that, but I ALWAYS ask for the price of materials and la Mano de obra and they are trying to charge me like thousands of pesos an hour. I know this is especially hard for me because I get triggered. I was on the streets at 14 and never had family or anyone, so I've been taken advantage of A LOT! So when this happens I get triggered and it is so exhausting. I'm aware and trying to separate the time periods...so that's at least a step, but it is infuriating. I taxi in my town and one time I took one to get up the hill from my daily walk...I was practicing my Spanish with the guy and talking about God and Jesus...it is always 50 pesos for me to get back to the house.....he tried to keep my 100 peso bill. I had to go so far as refusing to getting out of the car. I don't get it how all these people say 'oh, the Mexicans are so wonderful!' In my five years here I haven't experienced that at all....every time I turn around they are trying to cheat me. I wish it wasn't like this. If I didn't have two dogs now, I'd go back...at least there were a few people there who didn't treat me like a bank.
I don’t know why some of these people just don’t stay in their own country. They’re making it bad for us that know how to appreciate other cultures and customs.
I imagine some of the immigrants moving to Mexico are moving in to lower their costs of living about 50-70%. But some of them moving there probably forget they’re not at Burger King anymore. They can’t always get it their way!
Actually there are many white Mexicans all throughout the country. I actually saw more of them in Guadalajara then in Mexico City. But long story short they are all over Mexico. Not all are of Spanish decent, but most are of European decent. Hope that helps clear it up. Thanks for sharing and watch out for the hot sauce!
I love you and your wifey !! I love your comments and truth . I pray that I make it there one day soon if God wills it !! Because I wanna leave the US. B. S ! I'm just having some hurdles thrown in my way . But like I said If God wills . I will definitely be there . But I love your honesty about everything you say keep spreading the truth and shame the devil . !!! Luv y'all and I am subscribed and watching peace !!
Someone needs to look in an atlas. Merida is close to the equator. Someone needs to look at average temperatures for each month on a weather app. Why go somewhere and complain due to their stupidity and show their stupidity.
You would be surprised how many people move out here and are not prepared for the heat whatsoever. I totally agree with you, a quick 5 minute search on Google will give you all the information you need to prepare yourself, but most people just refuse to use common sense. Thanks again for sharing
Also. I took by a Mexican lady to dinner a few years ago and the waiter didn’t have any menus in Spanish handy He said they were in the back room. She told him to back there and get one. She can’t read English. In her own country she didn’t immediately get a menu in Spanish. She said she wouldn’t go back there again
I had a similar experience in Cancun the restaurant in the presidente hotel, they didn't have menus wanted us to scan a symbol with our phone, first we had left our phones in the room, 2nd we didn't have phone service, 3rd I am older and really just learning stuff on the phone. I was ready to leave and head to an oxxo, If it wasn't for my hubby he was tired and hungry. He asked questions and ordered for me.
That’s ridiculous!! But, it’s not a new thing. I am a white woman born in Miami. By the time I was a teenager in the 1980s my parents migrated up to Fort Lauderdale because Miami had become predominately Spanish speaking. Seriously. I stopped in a gas station to get diesel fuel and the pump wouldn’t work. I went in to ask for help and the cashier didn’t speak English. About 6 people were in line and I asked in English if anyone could translate for us. Everyone looked Latin and everyone shook their heads. I ended up leaving and looking for another station. These were daily experiences. My dad was denied a promotion because a bilingual Cuban got the job. We felt like immigrants while in our own city, state and country. Sad, but the only constant is change, and as humans we have to adjust.
@@MexicobeanpoleIf you're in Jackson heights or East Elmhurst in Queens New York it's the same thing. In many establishments there is no service in English.
Thanks for another great episode Jose 🤙🏼 Not sure if you follow japanese tourist news but since Japan is such a cheap country to visit at the moment it's being flooded with tourists and the locals are being affected. They're going to block the view of mount Fuji at a convenience store because people would block traffic just to get their shot. Believe it's mostly Chinese and Korean tourists. I can't say I didn't follow all the rules in Japan 😂 everyone waits for the light to turn green before crossing the street even if it's late at night with no cars. F that 😂 my inner Mexican mind just said to cross. So true about the joking around culture. When you're meeting a new group if you get a nickname that'll be your nickname for life 😂 A video on remote jobs sounds very interesting!
Yup as you said this happens in every country and not just with our own culture. In the Globalized world that we live in the clash of cultures is everywhere! Thanks for sharing! Hope you enjoy the video on how to learn the skills to work remotely and independently!
Who’s forced to retire in Mexico? It’s not cheap anymore, and people could find much cheaper countries. I had to prove income of $3600 a month last year to get temp residency. My friend just came over from the U.S. in 2024 and had to prove $4300. I’m sure there are people coming here and overstaying their visas, because they don’t have the required money. But, what a crappy way to live in your older years.
You are 10000% Correct no one is being forced to retire in Mexico, they can retire right there where they are or elsewhere. As it pertains to Mexican Visas. There are many other visas one can get in order to receive residency in Mexico. A popular option these days is the RNE program which does not require you to prove any financial solvency.
