I went to Michoacan last year. I think it is important to Google the place before you go. Where I went I already knew that there was problems with Cartels. When I got there, I saw nothing really bad. There areas , I did not like because there were people drinking in the daytime. I went to other places that were like Jose's videos of Merida and Jalisco. It just depends on the places you go to.

Because I'm thinking of moving to Mexico myself, I've engaged with others who have moved there, in order to get a feel for what it's like there. What stands out for me is the women my age ( retirement age) who's main reason for relocating from the U.S. is that they feel safer in Mexico than at home in the states! I'm from Canada and am a 66 year old male, and I don't feel unsafe here, but that is is very encouraging to me!

I have been going to Mexico all my life since being at the University and I never felt unsafe, but I had some adventures there. Y, ou have to be a bit street wise to navigate while abroad, because I go everywhere and never worry about being in some "safe shell" - I like to be with the people and enjoy their culture. Mexicans have an excellent value systems and are family oriented as a culture.

Another good video. I know many Americans feel safer in Mexico. My fiance who is a Mexican citizen doesnt feel safe where shes at in Mexico and never has felt safe She says its getting worse. I totally agree with you. Safety means something very different to many people. My sister feels safer in the USA than in Mexico and you are right I know Many Mexicans and other people in general who feel much safer in the USA. But with that said I know plenty of Mexicans living in the USA and many others living in the USA who do not feel safe at all by any stretch of the imagination in the USA and prefer to live in Mexico because it is much safer. Safety means something different to everyone. Comfort vs Freedom is part of that conversation. People who prefer comfort prefer the USA people who prefer Freedom prefer Mexico. That is the simplest way I can explain it.

That map is put out by the US State Department. In my opinion mainly to scare Americans into not coming to Mexico. Imagine if they made a similar map of the USA how many states would be in Red. In fact they would actually make most of the states Green. Again I would view something like this with a grain of salt.

I live on a little island in the Gulf Island chain off the West coast of Canada, British Columbia. A 30 minute ferry ride away is a small city. I lived there for a while and here for the last 12 years. In that time, the city went downhill to the point that stabbings are fairly common downtown and nobody in their right mind walks around at night. Lagging behind was the rural island I currently reside on...but a growing element of homeless, addicted persons make this their stomping grounds now and they are so predatory, I no longer feel that my wife is safe on a walk. I have worked tough places in my youth, bouncer for some rough bars in Vancouver, so im no stranger to crazy and I can spot the difference between a harmless drunk, or homeless person that just slipped between the cracks of life and a genuine predator...someone that would commit violence if the opportunity and payoff was there and THESE people on the island and prowling the streets of the nearby city are different than they were many years ago...they are anything BUT harmless. I suppose they are a symptom of a dying society, because make no mistake: the West is dying. My wife and I are coming to Mexico as soon as some things are tied up...not as soon as I would like, but as soon as we can. I'm learning Spanish and finding it a painful process, I suppose my mind isn't as supple as it once was. But this country is dying...or rather, it's being murdered and what comes next is going to be much, much worse and it doesn't matter who gets elected because the real power isn't elected. Going South as soon as I can...have to learn to tolerate city life again, I guess. Cheers.

@ericg6453

@JoseArteagaTravels it happened slow, then all at once. What shouldn't be surprising, but is anyways, is the ability of people to close their eyes to it and proclaim it isn't so bad...whistling past the graveyard. I'm a fair sized fella and have a perpetual resting b$tch face, as people have lovingly pointed out, and I never used to get accosted, but I've been threatened with violence twice by pan handlers...nothing real, just testing the waters, as it were and I sent them off with a few choice words and a meaningful look, but at night, No one else around...might be different and this sort of thing never happened before. Times, they are a changing. From what I can tell, Mexico is a little like it was here in the 1970's...which I'm sure isnt exactly like it was here in the 70s, but I'll take it with gratitude. Hopefully it never gets like here, now, but whatever, keep moving ahead of the decline...maybe Mars will be accepting immigration by then. Love your videos, thanks and keep it up!

@angelab4652 yep, Nanaimo. It's always been a little rough round the edges, a working class town, but this is something different and something new. Getting worse quickly. Sorry to hear the Sunshine Coast is in similar straits. Pun intended. It's been a few years since I traveled around and through those parts...lived close by in Powell River, too when I was a boy...the Province was very different then. Ah, thank goodness Progressive policies are moving us into a golden age, eh? I think a new generation is going to discover what previous generations in other parts of the world already found out, which is socialist revolutions always end in misery. And blood....lots and lots of that. What I have a hard time understanding is that so many older people seem to be on board with it: they should know better. But its a lost cause. Smart money has already left, but I'm not "money", so I have to bide my time. Here's hoping we all meet on happier shores.

when you get a residence, you can apply for a CURP, that CURP is like the SS of the USA., With that CURP you can open a banking account and a RFC ( wich is like an ID for business ) , if you learn some basic spanish and are kind that's it., people do not care if you are black ! as a mexican it is hard for me to undestand all that color thing in the USA., Vicente Guerrero was black and it was president of Mexico a long time ago, before OBAMA..... as far as i know some real state companies accepts LLC from the USA, but the law do not allow foreigners to buy land close to the beach and the border... Excuse my english ! i am not good yet ! lol.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 4 месяца назад
You can not purchase a home with a US based LLC you need to start a Corporation in Mexico which you can do as a foreigner. You can watch this video for more information on that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jj0h9bE6hoM.html If you want to know more about starting a business in Mexico you can watch this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7wkNDaZQDnI.html I can not speak on how Black people are treated in Mexico because I am not black. But all i know is that most Mexicans treat most foreigners well as long as you treat them well and with respect. I do know of several cases of black Americans coming to Mexico and acting a fool not just white gringos and it does not end well for them. As for asking for benefits as a foreigner in Mexico that is not a thing out here. If you want to get benefits from the Gov you have to remain in the USA. Mexicans do not rely on the Government to subsidize their living situation. Most Mexicans with a disabled child have to figure out on their own how to take care of them. The Mexican Gov does not have many programs to help the less fortunate. Many disabled people in Mexico actually work and/or have jobs to support themselves. Usually their family takes care of them dealing with a lot of hardship. Hope that helps answer your questions. If you have more you can search my youtube channel using the search option on my homepage for even more useful videos on many subjects

Sorry to say it Jose but I think you’re over exaggerating when you say you never felt safe in the U.S.. I grew up in one of the boroughs of N.Y.C. and never walked around with that thought constantly going through my head after decades of living there. If I’m wrong with my assumption that’s based on this video then maybe some specifics about why you felt so unsafe would help. Not sure if I missed some examples.

Quick question. In general, I feel pretty safe in the areas of Mexico that I visit. I went to Cabo recently for my residency and didn't have any issues--and honestly, I thought I was safer there than in many areas of the USA. But I did see something that concerned me--a drug street deal involving a motorcycle and a local handing the cyclist a wad of cash. Everyone passing by the very public "transaction" ignored it and went about their business. Granted, the same thing could happen in the USA. The question though for me is in the USA, someone might try to call the police and ask for help in stopping the crime. In Mexico, I'm not so sure about that--as I understand that the police might be bought off by the cartels. So if you are the victim of a crime or observe a crime in progress that's a danger to the public, do the police help you there? Is police enforcement and protection something I give up in moving to Mexico? In general, do people look the other way to crime in Mexico and you just hope you're not a victim some day? I can deal with that mostly and I generally mind my own business and carry on as a law abiding citizen, but I do worry about being a victim of a crime and not having any police enforcement in going to live there.

Mexico is a completely different country than the US I often talk about the differences on this channel. But long story short if you are being mugged on the street or an old lady or young woman harassed you will find people come to your aid. If you fall or have an accident people help, if you have a flat tire, police will help its a different world out here. With that said when petty crime happens people usually tend to look the other way. If it is a "drug deal" as you say people do not get involved, if someone breaks into a home or the window of a car people will react. Again it really all depends on what the situation is. Most people in Mexico just mind their own business and are not calling cops/authorities over such arbitrary things as littering. Most people say something themselves or just pick up the trash and clean it up themselves....again totally different culture out here. You can watch more of my videos for more information on all that.

I guess best advice is to park a block away or across the street 😅 I sincerely doubt those numbers are correct perhaps maybe in one neighborhood in Mexico that might be true but not across the country. Anyone been to Austin lately? Its sad to see how unaffordable the city has become. The homeless population has also increased and it is sad. My Mexican wife was surprised by the homeless population a couple of years ago when I first took her to visit my family in San Antonio. My grandma lives in the suburbs of San Antonio at least 45 minutes from downtown and there are now tents underneath the overpass at Loop 410 and Marbach and hanging out at the gas stations at the entrance of our neighborhood. Now Mexicans are starting to realize the grass is not always greener north of the border. Ironically we have not seen any homeless people in our colonia in Reynosa. Even the Haitian immigrants living in Reynosa are starting to get jobs, rent apartments, and enroll their kids in school. There are probably now Mexican born Haitian children now.

I can go to the local gas station at 2:00am in the worst part of my city here (outside Tampa) and the worst is I'll have to tell a beggar to get lost. "Don't drive at night" is wild and conflicts with what ya'll are selling. It sounds like it's about guns. If you're skittish about the idea of gun violence, you *feel* Mexico is safer. I can easily avoid gun violence in the US but don't want to have my stolen cell phone thought of as an "oopsie" or a rite of passage.

Hey Jose, I really want my permanent residence in Mexico. I'm from Canada and I may be able to do ok here but I think this country will be in a much worse position 25 years from now especially due to housing and rental costs which take up 50% or more of living expenses. I think Mexico will be in a comparatively good position in 25 years and want myself and my future child to have as many options as possible. @JoseArteagaTravels where is a good place to pay for a hospital stay to have a child in Mexico?

I figured that I'm going to have a child in a couple of years and I may as well skip the temp res line if I can. I look online but I'm not sure who to trust and not sure if they are price gouging. The crime in mexico is very very very different from the USA.... If you are a beautiful white girl traveling solo in mexico with few basic spanish you are probably safer than a brown mexican businessman like me. I am mexican i know what i am saying..... also, you are not going to a place in the middle of nowwhere ! also common sense is used right? If you are worry about your cellphone, or being robbed , well that can happen in many places of Chicago, or LA. If you are thinking about the Drug Cartels? well that is a real issue in some parts of the country! but most of the time the war is between the same Cartel or the Marine Corps versus the Cartels.. People, travelers, are not the targets...

As a Las Vegas cab driver for 17 years, I witnessed several shootings on the LV strip. You can check the case about Ammar Harris (pimp) shooting another pimp killing three people (pimp, cab drver, and a pasanger) in 2013, I was half a block away. Another in front of Caecars palace. Another in fashion show mall parking, and the biggest one in 2017 where 56 people were killed in front of Mandalay bay, I was right outside driving my cab with customers waiting for the red light, but in fraction of seconds everything was red (blood all over).

What I hate in USA in some areas is the epidemic of violence and just fighting and animalistic anger among the average population (which is now critically lower educated and un-parented for generations) that you can see easily by looking at Twitter any day of the week. People literally have reverted to animals. However, to be intellectually honest, to say that Mexico is a paradise state that ridiculous. There are constant massacres in cities and towns all over Mexico. There have been like 67 assisinations of political candidates this election season so far. It is expected that you will encounter "protesters" at freeway toll booths that hold you hostage until you pay or you could get kidnapped or killed. These occurances are common and any goog search shows new ones every month. Your not supposed to drive at night (no it's not just because of cows). You shouldn't drive through many parts of michoacan, Jalisco, Colima, etc due today the fact that law has been moved and cartel law is only thing there. I think US immigrants tend to fall into the trap of extremely strong confirmation bias because we have done something relatively radical and defend our choice for our own well-being. We ignore or purposely avoid information that may lead us to be less confident in our past choices or future plans.
