@@NotAwesomeGabe all the focus I'd on gta online and gta 6 but I wonder why they decided to let the same people who made the old shitty ports and remasters another chance. It's a lazy release especially for the price but it's OK
Forget a Remake, If Rockstar's team had remastered the thing in RAGE engine instead of Unreal, The Graphics and nodels would be more consistent(No Thicc tommy and Sims Kendl) and the details would be better. The studio which made this (Grove Street Games) is a MUCH smaller studio, Has much less experience, and hence they cannot compare to Rockstar's Studios. They've done a great job, don't get me wrong, but A Rockstar Studio would have done a better job. If I had it my way, Rockstar should have released GTA 6 in 2023 or 2025, and then added GTA 3, VC and SA as DLC in that engine. And kept the originals as they were. Truth is, GTA 3 and VC are too Old to be simply "Remastered/Soft-remade" without updating the Anims, Adding ragdoll, and maybe even adding cover and free-aim drive-by mechanics.
0:43 what? i know for a fact, that NPCs react if you aim at them in the PS2 version of the game, so this is not a new change, its just the pc that screwed this up due to the freeaim system
@@krimsonk-9478 Something I love about the definitive edition is that the cars no longer stutter in animations or have the back end 'wiggle'. These issues I think were specific to PC due to playing at different framerates with VSync off. :) Credit where it's due though, they've kept the physics pretty faithful considering they moved the whole game to Unreal Engine. That's quite a challenge.
I wish they remade these in a different engine just like Mafia 1. Especially San Andreas, one of the best games ever made…deserved better than just a texture pack!
It is in s different engine they made this in unreal, the og's were in the "render" engine or something. Doesnt matter they didnt take advantage of any extra physics or anything cool
Fuck the different engine loser. ( Which Gta DE definitely has ). Mafia 1 looks NOTHING like the original game. They should have called it something else because this was a different game, not the long awaited remaster. Fucking kids don't get it, fuck off on roblox loser
@@alainportant6412 Complete imbecile. I used to play this back on the PS2 when it first came out. If I wanted to play it on 02 graphics then I would, but if I’m playing it on the Ps5 with a so-called definitive edition I’d like the option of modern graphics. Clearly OAP farts like yourself are too old to appreciate modern graphics.
@@Wyrmixx is a shame that the shaders are shit the windwaker was good looking because of its shaders Nintendo does the best in shaders along with some indie games the newer ones are a bit poped for me
everyone says this but consoles make up a huge percent of the gaming market and they can't simply install a graphics mod for vice city / san andreas so it not completely worthless
@@supervegito2277 Dude, this would be easy, as they could use 50% of 3D models and textures from GTA V and GTA online (who would complain if some inaccessible in original game building looked different?). As for scripts - whats stops them from using existing ones from original games? I bet you they could reuse 99% code from original games on top of GTA V mechanics. This is not creating entire games from scratch, just re-making them using GTA V as base
@@degeneratephoenix8889 Yeap, and some random dude on yt for sure knows better than me :P There even already were a fan-made GTA V mods that that made SA maps inside GTA V and so on.
Here's my take on the trilogy, its a re-release of Mobile ports of the 3D GTA games with better graphics and not the actual PS2 version, this is evident from the camera positioning , in-game text and lots of the same bugs in the Android/iOS version of the games being carried over to the definitive edition. Rockstar clearly didn't Play-test the remasters enough and just focused on the visuals, increasing the texture resolution and ploy counts on models , and in some instances yeah they do look good. Vice city Especially looks the best in the trilogy, but in other cases they killed the vibe of the games , like in GTA3 now it doesn't look gloomy and dull and yeah that's an artistic choice but its what made the games unique for me, and getting rid of the fog ,up-ing the draw distance and removing the orangish blue hue from San Andreas makes it look entirely something else although whether or not its a good thing that's subjective.
I don’t think this shiny, sterile aesthetic is an ‘artistic choice’. There’s no artistry involved in just picking the stock settings in the Unreal Engine with zero respect to the vibe the originals were going for (especially in the case with GTA3). The whole thing just looks like some fan-made asset flip.
This is the best comparison video I've seen yet. You hit on many small things I'd been wondering about. Thank you. I'll probably wait for this to drop below 20 dollars on the Playstation store.
I think that if they just upscaled, fixed and reused the 10th anniversary characters, it would be almost perfect tho. It would be good if there is mod support and bug patches.
@@kml_arf Speak for yoruself, looks amazing to me. Why would they allow mods? Would you like if someone comes and start living in your house? idiot, use your brain, not dick
NPCs will in fact react to you aiming at them in the original. The problem is you used what is obviously a GTA San Andreas-based aiming mod rather than the "Classic" control's autoaim (which is more faithful to the gamepad control scheme in the original PS2 version). GTA 3 has exactly the same control options.
@@FilipCordas sometimes the graphics look nice, the promlem is the art direction. The remaster looks like the Lego version of vice city which if they were going for that would of been funny...
@tyt so by you calling me a "freak" is your opinion on a game...... Looks like your latest comment goes against your "expressed opinions". Did yourself in there. Looks like I won 😆🤷
draw distance in gta3 and VC was great and high almost like the remastered. i hated the SA short as heck draw distance. Couldn't even see buildings from ganton. It does make SA feel smaller but i still prefer the high dd. and you only feel the smallness when high in the sky or on top of LS buildings
Something that I miss of this game is the dew effect on the screen when it was raining, bump a hydrant or use the chainsaw over somebody. They didn't use it nevermore in other games after Vice City.
Actually the NPCs reacted when you pointed guns at them in the original version as well when using the automatic aim (in consoles or in PC by changing the settings)
lol every game comes with bugs and glitches. some of them might not get fixed and might stay in the game, but no need to cry. this game is perfectly playable except I heard some bad things about GTA 3 and that they spent the least amount of time on that one. they will probably fix that in an update. and then there's this guy saying "don't hope anything from rockstar" bla bla bla dude go cry somewhere else
They could've reused assets from GTA 4/5, like animations, the physics, even some textures and NPC AI aspects. Also, before you complain about the engine scalability and portability, there are assets that can be ported. The entire GTA 3D Trilogy was made on the Renderwave engine and they did carry across the same assets to Unreal. This simply goes to show the lack of support & confidence from R* and 2K in this game's development. Ports like Isolation (on the f'ing Switch) have seen an performance/graphical improvement over their original counterparts due to the dev's support. These "remasters" feel like open world mobile games like Gangstar and that other andriod market crap. MasterChief Collection, Nsane Trilogy, ResE Remastered, WindWaker, etc were all remasters - How much of the game is reworked entirely depends on how much the developers and publishers care about the game. In an industry where we have games like 'No man's sky', I don't understand how people can even make excuses on behalf of companies that don't feel obligated to release gameplay or reviews before releasing a game and making it available for pre-orders.
@@NeoDeXs Nope. They used GTA V styled cosmetic changes in the maps, the weapon wheels and certain control schemes. Not the same thing. What they did was a bastardised window dressing. It made a lot of the existing experience much worse. A reused asset has a 1:1 correlation between the OG and it's repackaging. If GTA V animation loops or code would be used on NPCs, they'd act like GTA V NPCs with GTA III skins. Fallout New Vegas reuses assets from Fallout III. You can see how similar animation, AI and textures are. Even Hitman Absolution used assets from Hitman Blood Money. It's not lazy, if you do it right. Devs do it all the time. It just brings across ideas and visuals that work and updates them. GTA Remaster is an insult to any game remaster. I don't blame the studio behind it. They're small and probably didn't have the time and resources. R* and 2K however are absolute greedy invertebrates that can't give a semi-fuck about the games who's shoulders they stand on. It's absolutely disgraceful. And I'm sure the successful sales will probably cement shit like this into the game development zeitgeist. These pattern are so obvious. *Edit:* Those cumsuckling vampires at Ubisoft were trying to do the same with their POP remake. Where they gave away the project to a small studio with no experience to save up on the money and cash-in on the nostalgia. Ofcourse they didn't have nearly as much audacity as R* and 2K since that game seems to have vanished for good.
If they did this, another set of people will complain. People just don't know what they want. Also the trilogy will also be released on phones. That's gonna be interesting to see when it's released
Its a good nostalgic trip, but the price is too much for what it is. And there are a lot of bugs that were not presented back in the day. I think they got help and consultation from Blizzard how to do the remasters...
Do the helicopter blades still keep spinning after you get out, so if you are quick you can get back in and take off again. I hated that they removed that in the subsequent games.
You’ve taken the time to put together a very interesting and informative video here mate when everyone else is divided on this game. The original still stands as my favourite game of all time even now with the release of another generation of games. Thanks for this
Love to see more videos of this before I make my decision wether to buy these games all over again. Thanks for putting this together. Loved seeing the weird glitches lol
Man forget about my opinion on the Definitive edition. I'm impressed that you managed to make me laugh without even speaking a word xD Great job on the editing my guy
Please compare the animation when you headshot people in their car. Do they still headless when they get out from the car, and suddenly feel after they close the car door.
They could’ve, but that would’ve taken a long time to produce and it would’ve been way too expensive. And they would not make a profit, so this is what we got.
Most people, and especially younger gamers will still think gta trilogy looks dated, but personally this is exactly what I wanted to see, meaning old mechanics just with much better graphics.
@@XORevolveOX Except the game is $20, so it’s not bad for that price. Original PS2 versions also routinely sell for around $15-$25, so this is also on par. The issue is people wanting this to be a AAA next gen title, and in reality it’s a 20+ year old game.
@@ortiz5922 Sure there are some imperfections, but these are meaningless details. Overall GTA trilogy looks amazing compared to the original games, at least that's my personal impression.
What people don't understand is, that the trilogy is a 3d universe, it's different to HD universe of gta 4 and 5. The remaster is supposed to be like this, for the aesthetic and game's old art but rendered to better resolution and effects for the latest hardware and peripherals. The people wanted the remaster to be hyper realistic like most recent games, which struggles to be unique.
My favorite GTA is GTA 3. Bought it for the Definitive Edition for the PS4 and that game alone crashed on me 4 times in a row already! Big OOF! When it rains it's like a damn monsoon and you can barely see or drive in it! Not to mention completing the mission 'Turismo' for El Burro while it's raining and driving the Banshee. Do to its' lightweight, speed, and handling I failed that mission over 8 times till I tested almost every fast car I could think of. Eventually, I found out that the most balanced car for that race or any races, is the Mafia Sentinel. Handles like a dream even while it's raining.
Feeling pity for them who just finished demolition man mission in definite edition and then just went in the water to test whether tommy can swim or not😂😂
@@denimchicken104 You can tell hes an idiot by the way he writes. "the graphics looks amazing than what i've expected" That is bordering on illiterate.
I’ve been playing the hell out of GTA III and it’s harder than I remember. Modern gaming has made me soft haha. Them old school games did NOT hold your hand.
they actually added some good small details, im sorta surprised, i always thought its just an official graphics mod xD sadly the news paper or some trash on the road detail got removed..
Please do a part2. The bullets take a lot more damage from Tommy when hit. The explosions have a wider blast area. You can't use rudder steering controls on the RC planes/helicopters. You can now drive through the mansion doors and keep your car. There are more interiors to buildings. You cannot rotate the turret on the tanks (for that extra boost).
all removed music can be easily added back to the game with a little elbow and hand work. Remember its not illegal to download music off the internet unless you distribute it for profit :)
I am defo let down by this "definitive edition" (£54.99) it seems like a quick money grab tbh and I have seen much better from the community modders, big up to them keeping gaming alive. 🙌 💚
