I think I have this and the acquired kinkyness for 20 years now. Mostly affects the crown but at times it’s all over. Hairs are of different patterns. Some knots, splitting, then very straight long thread-like strands, also short thick wirey and crinkly. Hair damages on its own without even handling the hair. Hair is very soft and lightweight. The affected strands are really loose and spacey

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately it is not possible to give professional advice in individual situations here in RU-vid comments, without knowing the medical context. I am sorry that I can not help.

Dr.Rudnicka, do you recommend on 14 year old boy taking baricitinib for alopecia areata universalis? Right after getting vaccinated lasts year he lost all his hair all over his body in 3 months. Also , do you know any good doctor in Nh please. Thank you
@profLidiaRudnicka
@profLidiaRudnicka Год назад
Baricitinib is approved for alopecia areata in adults. In a 14-year-old it is off-label (like many treatments in dermatology and pediatrics). If your dermatologist perscribed baricitinib, than he has belives that it is the Best solution in this case. I regret , I know no hair expert in NH, but Google should be helpful to find at least a few

hi, how do I know if the knows and hair shaft defects I have are genetic or not ? and what symptoms should I look for to know if its caused by genetic disorder ?
@profLidiaRudnicka
@profLidiaRudnicka 6 месяцев назад
I suggest to see a dermatologist. Many genetic hair shaft diseases may be diagnosed with trichoscopy without detailed genetic testing

Is it possible for someone who has lupus and connective tissue disorder to have this on only one side of the head? I have done a scope and only the left side has the shattered ends
@profLidiaRudnicka
@profLidiaRudnicka Год назад
Yes, it is possible, but it is worth excluding other causes of asymetrical hair loss (e.g. Trichotillomania, alopecia areata….)

What treatments are available for those with genetic TN?
@profLidiaRudnicka
@profLidiaRudnicka Год назад
These are very limited. Minoxidil (oral or topical) may be helpful
@rsu1367
@rsu1367 Год назад
@@profLidiaRudnicka Do you go to a dermatologist for minoxidil? My hair hasn't grown out very well my entire life. My mom had a similar problem but not as bad as I do. I guess a dermatologist is the type of doctor that diagnoses this problem?

So is this condition permanent or are thier solutions ?
@profLidiaRudnicka
@profLidiaRudnicka Год назад
Genetic is quite permanent and acquired will improve (long) after the inducing factor is not present any more
