#Mazda just stole the #japanmobilityshow 2023! Here is the #iconicsp that is inspired by the #rotary #wankel powered #RX7 and the fan favorite #MX5 #miata.
Has ‪@MazdaOfficial‬ just created the best-looking Japanese coupe of all time?!
``MAZDA ICONIC SP'' is a new genre of compact sports car concept that meets the needs of customers who ``love cars'' and ``want a genuinely fun car.'' It uses Mazda's unique 2-rotor Rotary-EV system, which is compact and offers a high degree of freedom in layout, and has achieved proportions with a low center of gravity that evokes good driving performance. When the on-board battery is charged with electricity derived from renewable energy, it is possible to run on virtually carbon-neutral fuel. In addition, the bright red exterior color "VIOLA RED" is based on Mazda's desire to "cherish the color red," and is based on Mazda's desire to "expand the circle of people who live positively today." This is a concept color created by overlapping our corporate philosophy.
Masahiro Moro, Mazda's Representative Director, President and CEO, said: ``Mazda will continue to work to deliver cars that make people feel, beyond reason, that cars are fun and good.As a company for car lovers that mass-produces the excitement of moving experiences. Together with like-minded companies, we want to create a future where many people, including fans, can say, ``I love cars.'' With this strong will, Mazda will continue to expand the circle of people who live positively today. ”
Mazda will continue to evolve the ``joy of driving'' based on our ``people-centered'' values, and aim to create the excitement of a moving experience in our customers' daily lives and deliver the ``joy of living.'' I will continue to do so.
■Overview of the compact sports car concept “MAZDA ICONIC SP”
In creating the skeleton, which is the basis of modeling, we aimed for proportions with a low center of gravity that gives an impression of excellent maneuverability. The concept of mounting a lightweight and compact rotary engine closer to the center of the vehicle has resulted in a low bonnet.
Utilizing a highly scalable rotary engine that can burn a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, the two-rotor Rotary-EV system generates electricity using carbon-neutral fuels. Furthermore, when the on-board battery is charged with electricity derived from renewable energy, it becomes possible to drive in a virtually carbon-neutral manner.
The high output generated by the 2-rotor Rotary-EV system, the low center of gravity, and the 50:50 weight distribution provide excellent maneuverability. In addition, although it is a sports car, it can be used for outdoor leisure activities and can provide power during disasters.
The exterior color "VIOLA RED" is a concept color created based on Mazda's desire to "cherish the color red" and Mazda's corporate philosophy of "expanding the circle of people who live positively today." is. While pursuing vivid colors, we also aimed to create a sense of shadow that makes the shapes stand out.
“MAZDA ICONIC SP” main specifications
Total length x total width x total height (mm) 4,180 × 1,850 × 1,150
Wheelbase (mm) 2,590
power weight ratio 3.9
Maximum output (PS) 370
Vehicle weight (kg) 1,450

There are many things i love about this design. I love that it doesnt look agressive like every other sport car. Instead, we get a beautiful clean design. IT LOOKS INCREADIBLY CLEAN. Small headlights (and they pop up!) I love that it isnt bulky. The low hood really looks nice. I love the grill. I love that its hybrid to reduce batteries and weight, like it should be. I think its so clever to use rotary engines to save space and make it more compact, but im worried that it sacrifices fuel efficiency. I hope we get some good specs in the future. Love the design, and for reliability Mazda is sort of a mixed bag. Their four stroke engines are reliable. Yet they also produced a lovely RX8 design plagued with rotary engine troubles. It's estimated that 50% of all RX8s have had their rotary engines replaced due to failing seals, overheating etc. Originally engines were being made by Caterpillar but Mazda cancelled the contract when failures rate sky rocketed and brought production in house. Some have suggested production capacity wasn't up to supplying a sufficient number of replacement engines so exchanges were made and the trade-ins were reworked, refurbished but the replacement engines had had work done in a poor manner, so they had even worse reliability. Back in 2010 Mazda re-manufactured 5000 engines annually. Some owners had to replace their engines four times.

I hate the EPA. I hate European emissions laws. Because look at what they’re doing to our good cars. I’m actually considering moving to Europe or an urban/downtown area because if cars become soulless and the good gas cars get mandated out of existence, I’d rather take public transport (even if it’s bad) or bike instead of drive. It’s times like these that we need to advocate for good public transport and walkable cities. In America, with how everything is built to be spaced apart from each other and only can be navigated by cars, it may seem impossible. But keep advocating.
@lensoprezole5322
@lensoprezole5322 8 месяцев назад
@@faheemabbas3965i drove an electric car and while driving it, i never thought it was soulless. I found it very exciting to drive because the big torque was WOW ! You can focus more on the precision of your line and braking when doing spirited driving.

@@faheemabbas3965 Have you driven an electric roadster? The performance of them is incredible even with a heavy battery. With the rotary range extender they won't have to put in a large battery - this thing will be a beast. Yeah there won't be gears to row through, but it will be a totally different performance envelope. I'm not ditching my Miata any time soon but I still think this is an exciting concept and I trust Mazda to deliver a top notch driving experience over any other manufacturer at this point.
@davidaugustofc2574
@davidaugustofc2574 8 месяцев назад
@@faheemabbas3965 I don't understand where you're coming from, all ICE work best at a fixed speed, contrary to electric engines, it's gonna cut the weight of the battery by at least half while extending the range a long thanks to gasoline energy density. It is gonna be safe and drive really well due to the low weight and torque vectoring, it'll run on many fuels due to the Rotary and it will be relatively easy to repair besides electric motor full replacement. A serial hybrid like this would be a ton of fun. I would buy this in a heartbeat. Sadly i doubt the beancounters that run all these companies will let this escape concept status. It will always be more profitable to make some giant 3 row or larger vehicle for the american market.

A very beautiful concept, hopefully it will be truly the successor of RX series model. Somehow, it evokes charcter of classic 70s car such Lotus Elan and Opel GT while refinement of modern Ferrari Roma and Aston Martin Vantage. If it goes to production, hopefully it retains the rear glass design.

As a huge Mazda fan that has owned 8 different rotary vehicles, this doesn't do it for me. I don't care for the look (lotus) although for an electric car, the look matches what I'd expect an electric sports car to look like. I was excited when I saw this car and the video of the 2 rotor until I learned the rotary won't drive the wheels. I think the Rx-vision looks 10x better than this and the Rx-vision should be the basis for the next rotary sportscar. I'd even go as far as saying make the next gen Rx7 look a little more like the FD and a little less like the Rx-Vision. Also, don't call it Rx-9, that just doesn't sound as clean as 7. I literally have money on deck waiting for if Mazda comes out with the next gen Rx-7 AND the mazda 6 with inline 6 engine. I will take one of each. Until then, I'll keep driving my turbo FB. I'll never own electric. Drove my friends dual motor tesla pedal to the floor and it was boring AF. No noise, no vibration, no shifting, no feedback! Literally like a golf cart. That said, I do believe that the recent price increase on the FD crate motors plus mazda creating a rotary assembly line to build rotary engines tells me we will have another rotary powered car coming, one where the engine powers the car. There is no way Mazda put all this work and money into the rotary engine assembly line just to build rotary generators......lol

@graysonlove27
@graysonlove27 8 месяцев назад
Love the design inside and out! Interior and exterior have NA throwbacks, which I love! IMO, the rotary motors should also power the car so you get the whole experience of the high rev power band they offer coupled to an EV motor like Toyota with their Prius. A true 6-speed manual gearbox with an actual clutch pedal to slip the clutch if needed. At this point, they can reduce the batteries to bring it back to the reason everyone buys a Miata or RX-7 in the first place, weight or lack of. I'm sure 3200 lbs is light for an EV, but compared to 2200 lbs NA it won't give the same road feel or manners when ripping around a track or canyon. Mazda is superb with its build quality, but I hope they don't lose sight of the reason people love their cars. Lightweight, simple, elegant design, and low seating position for that direct feel to the road we all fell in love with when they introduced the NA 34 years ago.
