Here’s Why The 2020 Ford F-250 XLT Is Trim You'll Want To Buy! 

The chrome front bumper has one advantage over a painted bumper. The chrome doesn't chip from road debris hitting the bumper. Unless you get the painted front bumper clear wrapped, you end up with a lot of paint chips in the bumper paint. I've had six F350's over the past 30 years and my choice would be chrome bumpers because they don't get pitted from road debris.

You guys have covered this xlt to death. Start doing the same for the other brands so we can compare.

10 minutes in and I still haven't heard any payload or towing numbers or even mention. I can and may go look then up but if you are going to do a infomercial then include pertinent information up front.

Leather steering wheel is mandatory. I can forgive hard plastics for parts I only look at, but if I touch it I want it to feel nice.

I wish Ford would offer the LED option on this package.

I don't wanna hear anything about "liking base trucks" from the dudes who replaced the steering wheel because their hands weren't touching a soft surface.

I don't know what he's talking about I would love to have that tailgate step but I actually use my trucks for work.

Higher trim packages = more money and gives the truck a lot less payload. Why pay extra money for features you don't need that takes up precious payload capacity that you do need?

I bought an XLT - F150, with all the options in 2016. Sticker was $56k, but with package discounts, incentives, coupons and negotiation... I paid $43,200. Since then, I’ve added the Raptor steering wheel, Raptor 8” gauge cluster, Raptor LED headlights, Raptor exhaust (downpipes included). Those upgrades totaled about $3k. Pretty much just what I wanted... but significantly cheaper than a higher trim with those options.

I personally like the fancy version of the XL trucks, the STX. It has every option I want but with vinyl seats. Cow $h!t and cloth doesn’t mix.

keyless entry is decade old tech and should be standard

You may want to check out that same truck in an XL trim with an STX package. My 2019 is just that and it was under $40,000 out the door. Quite a few options came with it such as the heavy heavy duty alternator, the Ford pass system, the sync 3, a camper package and snow plow package and it is a 10000 GVW package. Plus it has the ultimate tow camera system. The XLT truck with the same configuration came in at more money. Great info love seen the trucks trim packages dissected.👍

The STX has really become Ford's new sweetspot. Unless you really need the outside door keypad, you can save a bundle over the XLT.

if you want leather its cheaper to get a xlt and get the seats redone in leather for about 1500

I rented a 2019 F250 XLT Sport from my local Budget franchise and it was perfect. Chrome delete; keyless entry; remote start; power folding mirrors. Just enough fluff to be practical. And the MPG was reasonable for a big 6.0 gasser.

Need heated seats. XLT was always the sweet spot for Ford for the past 20 years.

$55k for cloth seats.. typical ford.. $10k you can have the leather and push start

18" wheels? Gross, give me some 17" and I'll save 60$ a tire when uograding to 35"

Love this truck but anything over 50 grand for a truck is a scam and won't pay that. When a truck costs what half a house cost 10 years ago is way to expensive unless ford employee are making $150.00 an hour which those days are long gone along with the workers unions.

I have always bought XLT spec trucks and then put it in a custom shop to put in a leather interior. I just find leather better to clean and more comfortable but you can get it a lot cheaper compared to paying for a Lariat.

XLT def way to go unless you start adding a ton of options. Then the price can get in the $60k range. Just depends on your budget and what you want a truck for. Adding aftermarket leather is a little cheaper too.

You're already spending 56 grand, just spend another 4k and get the LED lights heated wheel heated and cooled seats remote start blind spot monitoring ect. I absolutely hate those Ford cloth seats.

I also agree with that, luckily you guys in US have the chrome package which makes the f150 xlt looks awesome, just what is needed in my opinion. Here in Mexico the chrome package is not offered on any trim, in fact they have even reduced the number of trims you can get, so if you want to buy a good lucking truck you have to go to at least lariat, which btw is also offered in 4 combination of colors, all of them are bi color, is sad...

Normally when channels pump out the quantity of videos they do the quality takes a hit. Not the case with these guys! Keep it up!!

I bought an xlt this past year. Ford was discounting the $54k list down to $37k which made it great value. I love the truck but Ford does need to up their game on the XLT to include led lights, climate control and keyless start. All things that similar models from Ram and GMC include.

I think I’ll keep my 1990 F-150 XLT. I’ll put the 50k in my pocket.

Got the XLT premium chrome package on my 2019, c/w power telescoping folding mirrors and other premium additions. I disagree with the keyed ignition. It should not cost more for push button and the 2017 keyed ignition was a step backwards imo. It is sloppy and will be a problem after years of use. Come on Ford, make push button standard on everything.

I love my 2017 F350 XLT. It is a nice spec'd out XLT that has everything theirs has except the lane assist and front camera but with heated cloth seats and navigation. There is tons of storage in this thing, the center console alone is gigantic, there are little pockets everywhere and pop up under seat containment in the back.

Go ahead and tell your wife you get power seat but she cant have one on an $80000 truck in canada

Everyone who doesn’t have a bed step wishes they did. It costs very little as an option, but is impossible to add without swapping tailgates.

I've had plenty of of work trucks pass through my life and when it was time to purchase my own F150 for my personal use, I opted for a higher trim in the truck rather than trade for a Lincoln "turbo hearse". I could have purchased an XLT, but I wanted the better headlights and some of the "tech" features that are available on the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. Here's the thing.... I bet by the time I trade this truck in 8 more years, the features that were a part of the "luxury" packages are available on the XLT's because that is how things roll in the auto industry. Consequently, I will never say never as my next truck may just be an XLT. Time will tell. Keep up the good work!

Early on you said that truck did not have remote start.... but 9:10 clearly shows Remote Start System in the options list.

These trim package videos always seem to glance over the more important details. Barely a mention of differential gearing options, no mention of suspension options, glances over the fact that headlights in this trim package are optional (and says that's easily upgraded through aftermarket). glances over the fact that backup cameras in this trim package are optional (or not available, I don't know if I heard him correctly). Always stating "in my opinion" these things aren't needed. I tend to disagree with a lot of these opinions. LED headlights should be standard, as they are for most competitive brands. Keypad entry is not a big deal for me, nor is keyless starting, but I at least want to be able to lock and unlock the doors from from a key fob (again, he wasn't very clear on whether this trim package has keyless entry). No mention of payload and towing capacities versus other trim packages. No mention of whether vehicle comes equipped for gooseneck trailer towing. No mention of fuel economy in different trim/gearing packages. In my opinion, this video misses the mark because it cover what is really important for most people considering an HD truck.

Great video! Would like to see a basic work truck comparison. Crew cab or extended. We buy 5 or so new trucks a year for our crews everything from halftons up to 1 tons. Work truck and XLT/LT

My 2019 STX F-250 was optioned as well or better than the XLT's (ie tailgate step and running boards, CHMSL camera, remote start, snow plow package) I was looking at when I bought it last year. I chose a STX because of the value and function. I really liked a ruby red XLT another local dealer had, but it was more expensive with less options and I believe I couldn't order a ruby red XL (STX), so I chose a STX. Plus it doesn't have adjustable pedals and power seat actuators that can break down that road! I'm short (5'4") and do just fine with manual seats. I will agree with Tommy though; I have thought about installing a leather wrapped steering wheel. I miss having that on my previous car.

The XLT needs to have an option for dual climate zone and what’s up with absolutely no power seat functions on the passenger side?? Shocking the price between trims though because I built and Xlt and a lariat on Fords site and the price difference was nearly $10k. So for $10k you get heated/vented seats, some speakers and dual climate zone.

Lariat is the way to go. Coming from an XLT driver for 30 years. And just tried to make a 5.5 bet XLT work. If you are buying a truck. Buy a truck. F 250 Lariat.

The 7.3 XLT is very nice. I roll with a diesel Lariat. If you are going to buy a Mustang, you buy a GT. If you are going to buy a Super Duty, then an up trim diesel is the way to go. One man’s opinion who has owned Super Duty’s for 20 years now.

The doors still freeze up, still has death wobble. I wonder if Ford fixed the safety belts from catching fire with the recall they had? 55,000 with no heated seats , ggg oh my God. You'll need to step up to 65,000 for leather seats , ggg what has this world coming to ?

I hate those center consoles in a truck. My current truck has the flip up/down armrest console. It gives me storage but also a center seat in those rare times I need 6 passenger seating. Any of the upper end pickups I'd feel guilty using it as a truck was originally designed for.

Too late "Tommy Boy", I already purchased a 2020 Silverado 2500HD LT trim package. I prefer the "cheap" black bumper over the chrome and especially over the painted! No more paint chips and easy to clean off insects and bugs.

XL with the STX package is the best value.

I think this is the perfect video cuz ive been stuck on the fence between an xlt and lariat. I like the simplicity of the xlt (less techy stuff to break) but like the look of the lariat (grille looks better and the black interior on the door trim and seats looks better). But you pay more and get a bunch of stuff thats gonna break (auto climate control, rear sliding window, a/c and heated seats, power lumbar, push button start). I prefer no power seats. Ultimately i might pick an xlt and upgrade the grille and maybe add leather seats or something. Get the best of both worlds

I like the XL FX4 with STX with appearance package. Best bang for your buck. My truck seats 6 sync 3 screen cloth seats up switches clearance lights. Duel battery heavy duty alternator. What else do you need?

People buy higher trims because they have $ to blow

What I want. 4 wheel drive. Heated cloth seats. Android Auto and NO PROPRIETARY NAVIGATION system built in that doesn't understand you and doesn't become obsolete in a couple years or cost you $500 to 'upgrade'. Keyless entry. Power windows and locks. Spray bed liner. Basic back up camera... Doesn't have to have 43 different angles.

XLT price range is very wide. A base to a fully loaded 302A is probably almost $15K difference. It can be just above an STX, but can also be just as nice as a Lariat, just w/o leather. There’s another really good vid on YT just on the XLT package itself…..it’s over an hour long. Many are saying the STX is a better value, but there a ton of things even a base XLT has over it. A loaded XLT now is $55K, you can get a base Lariat for less if the cost/resale value is something you pay attention to. Everyone has different needs and it’s great Ford has different trims and let’s us option a truck as we deem fit.

Does Ford F250 still has the death wobble??? Is a violent shaking that happens to the front end of many Ford F250 and F350 Super Duty trucks.

This is a prime example of why I don’t watch TFL videos with Tommy or Roman reviewing trucks. No one needs a leather wrapped steering wheel. These Super Duty pickups are meant for work, not to impress “your clients”.

I'm sorry but when you keep saying that you don't need anything "fancy" on a truck and yet accept a $55k price tag on said truck, you're being waaaaay too lenient on Ford. This truck is nice but it's not $55k nice. Cloth seats on anything that's in that price range are just ridiculous. No remote start, no navi, no sunroof. Ford's cheapskate antics is what made me turn away from them when I was cross-shopping between Ford and Ram. Trucks are expensive enough already, if I'm paying that much already, I expect the "toys" to not be left out on my truck.

Should have done more homework... There is a STX package between the XL and XLT. You also failed to mention several options. Now I know you aren’t going to go over all the options, but when you mentioned the black door handles and the non heated cloth seats on the XLT, you should have mentioned that they are actually available options on it. I have chrome door handles, heated cloth seats, regular backup camera as well as upper camera for bed & 5th wheel hitch view, navigation, and many other amenities on my XLT. My friend has a XL STX with alloy wheels, chrome grill, and chrome bumpers. Just saying if you’re gonna mention these things specifically, also mention that you can also get them without going up to another trim level. Hundreds of dollars for individual options instead of thousands for anther trim level.

$55K im a ford fan boy all the way die hard. thats a $30K truck max. I think the world is going to come to a new order. The car bubble needs to pop. i think we are going to see a reset. the auto industry needs to take a hair cut. $55k for and step above a work truck. nope not with 30% unemployment. you need a job to make the payments even with 0% for 120 months car mortgage. I have the money to buy my toy "Bronco" but i think i will wait for the crash. pickup a nice used one in 3 years.

I don't drive due to a vision impairment, but if I were in the market for a truck, I'd probably get an XL, XLT or Lariat (the last trim would be pushing it). Anything above or beyond that would be overkill IMO.

Sorry Tommy, you say that step is an unnecessary option, however, if you are climbing in and out of that bed even once a week, it pays for itself very quickly. Wish I would have had that option back in the days when I was buying trucks. It should be a standard safety option for all trucks in fact. You talk about what you don't need for a basic work horse truck, but you promote leather wrapped steering wheels. lol People that use trucks for work don't need no stinking fancy leather steering wheels. lol They use work gloves and if you really need leather, wear leather gloves. :P To each their own. Seating is a must match for anyone. If you are driving long hauls, it better be comfortable for you. If you are getting in and out a lot, it better have quality that will last. And often that is leather.

Chrome sucks, just saying. I'd rather have the black. Other than the Tremor, I would want aftermarket wheels too. I could do without the fancy electronics too.
