I've only ever seen one of these. It was around the time they first came out. I was at a red light at the very front of the intersection, and in the perpendicular lane, 5 feet from my front bumper, a silver one like this one flew by me and it felt like the earth was shaking with how loud the exhaust was. It was one of the most insane car experiences I've ever had.

Ended up behind one of these as we both turned into a gas station. I was getting gas. He went into the store and came out with a half-rack of Miller Highlife. A half million dollar car, and about as low grade beer as one can buy.

I completely understand why you love it so much! Absolutely fell in love with it myself (even though I already really liked the car) and I'm absolutely amazed at the level of engineering that has gone into this car. Certainly something special and it really shows :)

I remember when I was 13, my dad and I rented a Mercedes to go on the Autobaun. We were going about 110 mph when all of the sudden two Carrera GT's flew past us. It was probably the only time I've ever cussed in front of my dad. He didn't mind.

Great review Sir - congrats! The weather was not the best, but you still managed to do it despite a little drizzle. It is also one of my most favourite cars, I have seen few of them in central London and they look amazing, I love their sound and enjoy racing them in the computer games. Are you sure it is the ashtray and not the compartment for coins?

He's doing doing another test to fulfill a life's ambition,to have the joy of driving his favourite car again. And who can blame him? He'll never forget this day!

In 2006 I was working at a F-car dealer and we had one of these traded in. As is the usual with trade-ins, ALL of us got to spend some time with her (couldn't find a buyer for weeks!!!!) and I share *everything* Doug says. ESPECIALLY the driver's position and controls. I've never sat in a more comfortable car that was waiting for me to be the last piece of the puzzle. - A year later we were doing a Brian Redman Vintage event down at Roebling Road and a husband and wife had a his and hers they'd run between sessions. It was absolutely fascinating to see how fast and smooth they moved around the track. Truly beautiful and special machines. Probably the ONLY car from that era I would buy if I could.

I visited EPA in Ann Arbor a long time ago when they had this car there for emissions certification. Crazy supercar sitting there in the soak room alongside other normal cars. It was funny because this beautiful wood shift knob had a post-it note stuck above it, to show the shift pattern for the driver doing the emissions test.

I'd love to hear Doug's thoughts on Gordon Murray's T.50, since that's a modern analogue sports car being developed purely to have the best possible driving feel. I imagine it would tick many of the same boxes as this car

In the spirit of German precision, the center lock wheel nuts are "reverse thread," not 'cross threaded.' That is what would happen if you forced the lug nut onto the lug by turning it clockwise. And only the passenger side wheels are like this, so that the centripetal force of the wheel can't loosen them.
