please don't do lock in to a specific mount. There are way too many reasons someone may want a different mount. I have a large monitor that only one monitor arm (as of a year ago) supports and they developed a heavy hinge for that specific montior footprint. lock in to your model of monitor arm is going to kill this desk for a lot of WFH people
@ninjasownpirates

I agree. I have two 32" monitors and even the mount they have (which is one of the best rated) struggles with the size and weight of the. I'd design a nice riser for a monitor or two as an add-on and then make the desk itself compatible with either clamping and maybe bolt through monitor mounts.

I think 2hat is more important is a little gap for the monitor mounts that are clamp on the back so the desk can still sit against the wall. Or deep enough for a deep desk pad and a monitor stand that has deep feet.

I agree. As much as bevels are pretty and arguably more comfortable, they are nightmare with anything that clamps to the edge. When I was shopping for my current desk, having a square edge was an absolute requirement and disqualified a lot of otherwise nice desks.

As a person who's on the fence about backing this: Please retain the magnetic rail for MGT accessories. That really could be the difference between me buying this and skipping it completely. Other thoughts: 1. Lots of cool accessory options, especially if magnetic, would make it super attractive to me. 2. Make sure there's a way to attach clamps, such as for microphone stands etc. 3. A shelf that goes at the back of the surface, but which *itself* has a magnetic rail so I can have my accessories floating over the back of the desk would be amazing. 4. Would love it if I could add a diagonal writing/writing surface to my desk as a magnetic/removable accessory. Almost like a diagonal player desk. Could look cool with a contrasting wood to the main desk.
@Viruzzz
@Viruzzz 2 года назад
My thought is the exact opposite, if it has an accessory rail it completely devalues the desk for me because the tabletop effective thickness becomes like 3-4 times as thick and i have nothing I would ever use it for. I have never once thought "Hey, I need a cup holder" when sitting at a desk like this, it's just going to be in the way
@d_dave7200
@d_dave7200 2 года назад
@@Viruzzz Right now I have three active cups on my desk, so yeah, cupholders would be really handy. My desk is constantly full of stuff. Compatibility with MGT is one of their unique potential selling points, and fits well with their target market. I somehow think they'll lose more money by not having rails. Ideally these rails wouldn't be at the actual seating position, making the thickness less at that point.

I am curious if the edge bevel of the desktop will prevent microphone boom arm clamps from attaching to the desk. Some boom arms (like the Rode PSA1+) allow for drilled through desk mounts but I would hate to add it to a beautiful desk if the included cable-management hole isn't the correct size. I don't think a magnetic attachment insert would work too well for vibration sensitive mics so compatibility with standard edge c-clamps would be great (for me).

Modular all the way. I use a massive 32lb monitor that is curved, so it puts tons of strain on 99% of monitor arms. I ended up going with an ergotron with a heavy mount adapter. With the back of the desk, don't forget to leave a bit of room for clamp style mounts which need space at the back. If you've got the drawer going all the way to the back, there's no way to clamp anything around the back, which is a major issue for a lot of monitor/microphone mounts.

First, please don't pigeon hole the design around a given mount (really loved the idea from last time about a Wyrmwood monitor shelf) Second, modularity is cool, but I don't want a desk where the stinkin' _drawer_ are extra Third, it might be worth offering both desks (a modular desk with a more affordable base price and an executive desk with a tighter, unified design)
@solonys9775
@solonys9775 2 года назад
"Second, modularity is cool, but I don't want a desk where the stinkin' drawer are extra" I agree here, but for a different reason; drawers get /heavy/. Further, most people are not going to come back for more desk parts later once they order the desk unlike additional rail accessories, so I don't see how the modularity helps, and instead it creates additional design constraints to make a modular mount that can take 30lbs of weight without failing. Jason's desk is a superior design; I don't know how many people will pay (frankly, way more) for a Wyrmwood desk if the base doesn't look any different from a basic sit/stand from Office Depot.

I didn't see a magnetic rail on these desks, which is the crux of all your table's modularity: headphone mounts, writing surfaces, cubbies, cupholders, controller docks, raised speaker stands, hobby racks/shelves etc. Put the rails on both sides of the cutout and along the sides of the desk, maybe at the back too. If y'all really wanted to jump-start your weed products, you could make accessories to prepare your weed, like trays that hold bowl pieces. And Doug's not wrong that drawer modularity is an underdeveloped space. That's almost the most exciting prospect you've talked about, at least potentially. I'd love to see what you could develop given your exposure to your audience's lifestyle/needs. One thing though is that real estate is more selectively important than generally. If you made an 8" platform I could store my desklamp on I'd be so down for that. Also, it'd be cool if the accessories you buy for this desk can be stored in or with the desk when not in use. It'd be a pain having to store things separately. Good job!

The problem with Jasons design was that it lacks the ledge behind the trapdoor that Bennets had. You can balance your extension bar and things on there whilst you work on something else. With Jason's design everything will just drop out, putting stress on plugs/cables, and you'll have to half-hold everything in place whilst trying to work on a different area. 1) The desks need integrated drawers. That's an expectation on any high-end desk in my opinion and the side drawers are also a great design. Don't squander it in the name of modularity when everyone would 'want' the drawers. 2) I personally would be fine with exposed-metal legs, but I think the sleeves are what sets the wyrmwood desk apart from anything else in the market. Looking great! Massively agree with other commentors and not locking us into a specific monitor arm. Really like the idea of modularity in drawers and other accessories. One idea I could see would be some sort of cable grommet that stretches the length of the desk, perhaps just large enough for plugs to get past (eg. 2-3")? Between that and insetting the underside cable storage you'll maximize the overall compatibility. Definitely make the bevel, leg covers, etc. customizable/addons. That way you have the nice flat surface and when you want to take the plug off you aren't looking for an extra thing to get it out; you just push down on it and remove the plug. I think y'all might be limiting your focus to a "gaming" sit-stand desk. You have a whole market of artists/writers who would kill for a desk like this. Here's an idea on how to make the drawers modular: swappable dividers. Dividers for papers, dividers for pens, dividers for paint bottles, for sketch books, artist tools, anything. You could choose from a selection of different dividers to suit whatever needs your hobby/occupation requires. Another thing to make modular is the hidden desk area on the side; have a variety of options from white board, to pen holder, to game control holder. Last, could never go wrong with a set cup holders. One for drink, and one for paint water.

Power plugs and maybe some usb hubs built into the table so that we can plug our monitors/mics/camera/lighting into the desk compartment and you only have clean cables running to the plugin and computer. Having some of the modules built around what a streamer or conent create might want would be amazing. A modular peice dedicated for streamers to put their periferals such as streamdecks, beacn mix create, or goxlr would be so freaking amazing.

As someone who currently has a sit/stand desk with 4 monitors (all on one mount), 2 laptops, a docking station, 2 usb hubs, a mesh router, a few other items like wireless chargers, and the desk itself all needing to be plugged in, cable management for this type of desk is a nightmare. When I saw Bennett's cable box design I immediately wanted it for my desk. I work in IT so I've run a lot of cables for desk setup and his box allows for easy access to hold all sizes of cables, power bricks, and possibly a power strip which would solve the biggest PIA for this type of desk which is making sure the cables have enough slack in them to not pull when the desk moves. I like Jason's design, but having something dead center in the middle of the desk is just asking for bruised legs.

I love the modular desk. More appeal to a broader range of buyers. I hate drawers on my desks, especially pullout/swingout style because the metal usually fails easily. I just hope you talk about the min/max height. "Wheelchair" height desks are harder to find, especially ones that can be mechanically raised. I know wheelchair height sounds counterintuitive for a sit/stand desk, but I am thinking about multiple users in the household as well as being able to accommodate a wheelchair or mobile limited people.

Definitely remember that some of us have 1 monitor, and some have between 2 and 6, if you lock into one mount type... I don't want a situation where I can't throw more money at y'all on the desk of my dreams, 'cause it only supports 2 monitor setups... ya... nope... just a bad idea. My monitors and their mounts have changed more in the last 7 years than any other part of my work and gaming setups...

A Top Bevel is hazard for anyone putting stuff on the edge of the desk, look I put a cup coffee on the partial bevel next thing I know, my coffee is on the floor with my shattered mug. Also you have a metal rail accessories for the tables. Why not add it to the table and make a few more for it? AKA Headset mount and stuff like that. really try to find the niche for desk accessories. Good Luck

I like Bennet's idea for the monitor arm clamp, but I think you should offer the ability to either have a clamp hole or a screw hole for arms that can/need to be drilled into the table. A possible issue with Bennet's option is that it doesn't allow for the monitor arm to be clamped as far back as possible, which, depending on the monitor arm, could reduce desk real estate by forcing the monitors to be closer to the user. Maybe you could have an optional cut-out in the back of the cable-management compartment to allow for bulkier/longer monitor arm clamps. I'd love to draw up some ideas for that if warranted.

To second what I've seen others say please don't lock us in to specific mounts that is 100% a deal breaker for me. On that note, please test various types of clamp-on accessories to make sure they work with whatever bevel you want (or remove the bevel at the back/sides) so we can clamp our own monitor stands, mic booms, and other desk accessories.

Please don't lock me into monitor arm options, positions etc. I'd love to see a desk with 4 legs instead of the trestle - it would eliminate wobble that happens with standing desks when you have them seriously loaded. If you could solve to Desk Wobble in standing mode - you'd be an industry leader.

Team Top Bevel all the way. Modular desk drawers are a nice idea but you can only add so many to the front before you start limiting the sit position height. Maybe there can be drawers or cubbies that perform similarly but attach on the rear of the desk top, for stuff you want close by but don't need at arms reach all the time.

Modular table for the win! I love the cable management (on Jason's) but I would change the door to a "J" shelf. Currently I think it looks more like an "L" shelf ya know? If you have cables in there already, the "L" will just throw those cables everywhere. a J Shelf will keep cables in a channel. Also for opening the Cable management, you could do a spring loaded knob that releases a peg that holds the whole thing together. This gives you control and a stable locking mechanism.

I graduate this Fall... Goals: 1) Get a kick-ass job (or one that pays well enough) 2) Save up and Purchase a new Car 3) Save up and Purchase a Prophecy 4) Save up and (hopefully by this time, with my obviously kick-ass paying job) buy the Prophecy Sit/Stand Desk If the pricing ends up being too steep I'll likely go Modular, but... specifically the framing on the legs... that was slick... that was amazing Jason. And yea, it does suffer from "college-itis" without that sleeve.

If you end up doing a bottom bevel with a magnetic rail. Please make a magnetic adapter to make a small part of the desk square. That way your monitor arms or any other clamp items can still fit while keeping the bottom bevel. Way to many people have specific monitor layouts or mic arms or camera arms or light poles that will no longer work with a bevel

Depends on the price points for both desks and the types of add-ons for the modular desk. The modular desk sounds like it would be a good choice as it would allow the buyer to get the components that they want instead of just getting a standard desk.

Lots of good ideas. Like Bennet's cable management best, it's cramped but I had a *moment* when Jason showed his trap door as doable for cable management. I like the modularity it'd be great to build on to develop lessoned learned for a more refined prophecy version later. For drawers pick a standard width for the side drawers you can get trays that slide on top. My WFH hack is put a cutting board over my open drawer to use it as an extra surface, tip- rounded corners slightly wider than the drawer opening help it stay the board stay centered over the drawer. It's great when you got a mouse grabbing toddler. I stored a wireless mouse in the drawer, out of sight when not in use. Make the management hole biggish in the center. You can get conference table connection plugs. The size of those are larger to accommodate more mounts. So you can drop a connection insert or monitor stand in to fill the hole.

There are mounts that are drill thru maybe make a replaceable management cover that can lock to the desk surface so you can install drill thru mounts thru a cover that is secured vs the desktop... Also I like the wood slides on the base. Just look into the company making the guts to harden so there's less redesign. I'd draw a picture of my cable management cover design to share but it's late.

I know the 'Prophecy' table is shelved for now but I just need to comment - I know the desire to make it an 'heirloom' piece is high, but with typical heirloom stuff, it's exactly that, whereas all Jason's desk is is a sheath around the standard office/dorm desk. The issue with that is that that's only good for as long as the actual desk inside the wooden sheath still works - it's not like you'll be offering your craftsman promise on the electricals/hydraulics/whatever of the bases you buy in.

I really hope you bring back the preset heights for it. Our desks at work allow you to preset heights and it is so nice to have it go to the same spot every time. I also use monitors from work at home so the preset mount wont work for them. Our monitors connect into a single stand that has a c-clamp to not take up desk room. If the edges of the table extended past where parts connect to it on the sides and the back that would work for anyone with c-clamps

I am liking what I see so far. I would like to see on the modular table the same leg box wraps Jason designed. I don’t like the “college” feel of the current sit/stand desks. I want it to feel well design even for modular style. I see a ton of accessories being designed for the modular desk. If Wyrmwood could integrate a wireless charging into the top part it would be amazing. I’ve seen desk that has a area where the wireless charger is but you don’t know it is there. So it is a solid top but an area of it is thinner to allow the charger to work with a phone or charging ear buds. Just a thought. Keep up the good work, I’m holding off buying a new desk cause would really like to get one from Wyrmwood.

I really think that the Modular version will have a much broader audience than the Prophecy version. I really think that most people that spend a lot on a desk for home are wanting an hierloom version, and I don't know that an hierloom sit/stand will be a thing. I can't wait to see the end result!

Honestly, I like the leg sleeves a lot, with the thickness of the desktop it makes look a lot less awkward than the exposed metal legs. I think the big thing to come up with a solution is clamps for things like monitor arms/mic booms/camera stands. Not all monitor arms are equal, so please don't lock it into one. Also L shaped version would be my biggest wish. I have too many electronics for a standard desk. As far as add ons: I think a side desk/player desk would be awesome. (it would be useful for extra real estate for those of us that play TTRPGs virtually) Drafting desk or being able to angle a portion of the top of the desk Shelving inserts/paper tray instead of a drawer

I would probably go top bevel on both of them, especially on a sit-stand desk - since the sharp edges that the bottom bevel creates on top, create pinch points if you rest your arms.

Jason was right the first time. An anatomist is indeed someone who specializes in anatomy. Physiology doesn’t actually have to do specifically with body anatomy, more so how the body functions. While many physiologists may know what muscles are where, they more so specialize in how those muscles work, how they are innervated, how they use energy, that kind of stuff.

Requires sufficient top overhang across the back to stably clamp arm mounts (monitors, microphones, cameras, etc) across the entire length of the back as a deal breaker. Only being able to clamp in where a couple of holes are, and then only with compatible arms, will not be sufficient. Sit/stands on the market may be plain, but the advantage of their flat plain tops with nothing hanging under them is there's no obstruction to clamping to them.
