I've heard that single leg squats are actually more effective and hockey-specific since you take a stride with one leg at a time + it works on your core/balance a bit simultaneously. I tried this for a while and noticed results (seemingly improved control, power and more 'feel' for each stride) but I'd been off the ice for a while so I can't tell whether it was just my imagination. Do you know if this is true?
Hey Tyler. Single leg squats are great. Both types of squats have their place in a good off-ice hockey training program. If you want to download our free 7-day hockey workout you can get that at 247HockeyAcademy.com
This is 4 years late, but if you are still curious. Go in the range of 3-10 with 6 being optimal. Don’t ego lift, and squat consistently(2x a week for hypertrophy.)
