HONDA SHADOW VLX600 BOBBER BUILD ("Holly"

This is another bike I built for a friend, it's got a lot of sentimental meaning to him. This is a really cool bike I'm proud of how this turned out. The reason I made this videos to show people that you can get away from the stock tanks that come with these bikes and have a better option/way of getting a retro look. Thanks for your view!

I like the trend of customizing the smaller bikes. My days of riding are behind me, for health reasons, but even if they weren't, I still couldn't enjoy these little guys because I am too large to fit them comfortably. Still, I a;ways thought some of the neatest bikes ever were in the smaller categories. Bikes like the vt and vf 500's or the gb500 and cx500 from Honda. Yamaha's 535 v-twin and the Suzuki 650 single are also really neat starting poins for customs. Good job, and keep on keepin; on.

@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 6 лет назад
there was no real way to do it, it was a series of trial and error with it, so I don't have a step by step kind of scenario to go along with it. The one thing I can tell you is to leave the rectifier out of the mix (out of the can or whatever you use) there's a reason that the manufacturers attach them to the bike in a way to get good air flow. If you put them in the can they can over heat which can cause a draw on your battery. sorry I couldn't help you more
@Kysprtsmn
@Kysprtsmn 6 лет назад
bannanapancake thanks! I assume the rectifier is the heat exchanger looking thing on the left side of the bike? Anyway I've enjoyed your videos. Keep posting!

@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
Hey sorry for the late reply, I'm not getting notifications on my phone like I used to... the handle bars are the stock bars that came with the bike, In the 1930-40's board track racers used to take their factory bars and turn them upside down and flip them around to get that low profile look (just google "Board Track Racer 1940") hope this helps:) thanks for the comment

do you notice any power loss or anything from removing the baffles and putting open strait pipes on any your builds?
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
As long as you re-jet the carbs properly for what your setting up, you 'll have an increase in power and a mean sounding bike (loud pipes save lives right?) the only loss you really stand is fuel economy, stock shadow usually runs between 55-65 depending, these types of setups run around 50-55 (depending)

hey bud im kinda new to the whole bike thing always loved bobbers yours look sweet man was wondering if you knew how much of the wiring you can actually do away with i have a 1985 honda shadow 1100
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 7 лет назад
Michael Kebert - Hey man, thanks for he comment;) bikes vary a little from model to model, being an 85 there might be some things that you can eliminate, however most things are there to compliment each other like "socks and shoes" kinda thing. You could get rid of things like neutral/ bright/ signal wiring, kick stand sensors. All that sorta thing, most of the stuff that is packed in those bikes are to help it run more efficiently really, I think the better option is to hide it better or disguise it more. These bikes aren't like the old Harley's and what running with a magneto set up, so now they come with a lot more electrical components some for better some for worse (in bobbers case). All I do really is consolidate everything into a small tight package. If you plan on doing any kind of can idea that we use for your wiring harness. Leave your rectifier out of the mix, and attach it where it can get some good air flow. You can do a lot with all of it if you think small (if you will) Hope this helps some.

YOUr ,videos are very informative for us beginners, you should keep going. i have so many questions, but im going to just ask a few. what size tire is that and am i able to go wider than that without modification? also, will getting custom made drag pipes affect the performance much? i have a 05 aero shadow and i heard the plastic engine cap gets in the way of having some nice pipes.
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 4 года назад
I almost lost your comment somehow, RU-vid's studio is shady...anyway! believe it or not the rear tire is stock, I think it looks bigger cause the rear fender is gone ( SIDE NOTE***Utah has no safety regulations now, so kicking the fenders to the curb works in our state, might wanna check your regulations where you live, or you might not be able to register it later). You can go a little wider, your tire guy or local motorcycle shop could help you out with sizes for sure on that. Ok, so heres the thing with pipes, I have another video on my channel called "filtration set up" (or something close to that) If you modify the pipes, you have to rejet the carbs to a state where they work with your new set up, EI; you rip the stock air box of and go to air pods, well now you just increased the air flow, so you'll have to do the same to for the gas intake (bigger jets). and if the new pipes have no baffles in them you just lost back pressure and that will come into play when re-jetting also. the best thing to do is to watch that video on my channel and figure out exactly what you want.. do you want air pods? or to keep the stock air box? are your pipes straight through with no baffles? or do they have baffles? if your running a straight through kinda set up like MY "82" bike, air pods with custom pipes with NO baffles, you'll need a Stage 3 jet kit set up. Id highly recommend calling DYNOJET in Vegas (i'm not affiliated with them at all) and CAREFULLY explain to them what you plan on doing, and what you got going on...EI; "hey I got a 07 shadow spirit chain drive 750cc I want to get rid of the stock air box and run pipes with no baffles, what kind of kit do you recommend??" they can set you up with what you need. Hope this helps some.
@dreezyfranklin
@dreezyfranklin 4 года назад
@@bannanapancake ok perfect. I like in California so there is regulations about EVERYTHING! Lol. I understand everything you said, the bike is a little more sensitive than your average card modification I see. Would it be harmful to drive a few miles ? Also? I have a 05 750 aero, do you have any recommendations on lowering it ? I bought lowering struts, but if you have a cheat code for a different (cheaper) way then I'm all for it :D
@bannanapancake
@bannanapancake 4 года назад
dreezy franklin - it won’t kill the bike to ride a few miles (not like 20+) but it might suffer in back fire on a decel (depending) and timing and compression will start giving out in the long run. Lowering a bike is cool, but you have to remember the lower you go the stiffer it should be, other wise you’ll bottom out on speed bumps for sure and any big bump on the road will cause you to do the same causing your tires to lose the grip on the road because the weight has been transferred from the tires to the skidding frame at that point, hope that makes sense.. With a stiffer shock in the rear you get a lower look just by lowering the rear, lowering he front can be a little dangerous in the fact you can’t control how much the front shock will dip for all the bumps out there, if it hits hard even at 20mph, that tire will hit the triple tree and lock up for a split second, and that might be just enough to lose your angle on steering and that’s no bueno.. Hope this all helps some

bannanapancake cool thanks for the reply! I’m wrenching on a 1983 Honda shadow VT 500 and and waiting for clip ons to come in the mail, I still have the stock tank on it but im seriously considering going with a little peanut tank like you because I think it looks awesome. The stock bars were buckhorn bars, they are really awkward and turn in and towards you a lot. Now that I lowered the bike as low as it can go, trying to ride it with the stock bars on it is so awkward it actually hurts your wrists (like having your arms and wrists like a T-Rex dinosaur). I think for the time being of I flipped the bars like this it wouldn’t even work with the huge stock tank I have on it. I will see how the clipons look and I’ll make a video of it. Your custom tanks are awesome especially with the petcocks all the way at the bottom. I love how the tank sits up high and on an angle, it gives it a really nasty look.
