Definitely going to work them all into my rotation. *My absolute favorite Nickism, though I admit it is nearly impossible to pick one, still has to be, when describing Troy's actions during a scene from "HSM2", as "indignant frolicking".

I was too terrified as an 8-year old to go on Tower of Terror, so my parents were going to do the parent switch-off thing. Only thing is, the way you get to the end of the ride to wait for the rest of the family is a non-ride elevator alongside all the ride elevators. So they had to drag me screaming and crying, terrified, onto the normal-ass elevator because I thought they were forcing me to ride. I did ride it when I was older and it's great. Lol.

Once my dad DID try to force me to ride something I really didn’t want to and I too commenced the screaming and crying! He ended up going back to the exit cause I wouldn’t stop and either he got too embarrassed or grew some sense. So I have a kinda funny story about this movie: when I went to Disney World at age 11 with my parents and my 7-year-old brother, the Tower of Terror was the first ride we rode. We sort of knew it was a ride, but we were more under the impression that it was a haunted house with a mild ride, not a full-on thrill ride. Both of my parents hate thrill rides, and my little brother and I were complete wimps. It legit almost ruined our trip because Mitch and I were so shaken up, and Mitch, I swear to God, had problems with elevators for years. It was, I’m not joking, this movie, that we watched in our 2003 Honda Civic’s DVD player, rented from our local Hollywood Video, that got Mitch and I over the “trauma” of the ride (it wasn’t that traumatic, I’m being hyperbolic, and it was still an amazing trip). But neither of us were ever scared of The Tower of Terror again after seeing this.

Ooh I have some fun facts: Weekly World News (the tabloid that included stories about Bat Boy) was developed by National Enquirer when they switched to using a color printer so they wouldn't have to just toss out their old b&w printer. Shirley Temple grew up and became an ambassador! A real one! Not like how Mickey Mouse might be made ambassador, she was actually doing stuff.

I did in fact grow up in California in the 90s, and we did say “wicked“ but not very often. I think it was popular slang among skaters though.

I think they did shoot at the actual ride in Florida. The ride itself is a staged space with cobwebs and props that make it feel spooky and old. When packed with people, the space seems very cramped. But without lines and riders, the place can become a ready-to-film set.

I also had a hard time telling reality from fantasy as a 7 year old when this movie came out. My dad says I cried the first time I had chips ahoy and a party didn't burst out of the bag. I also saw this movie and was amazed "They're playing the chips ahoy song!". Also, yeah no one said 'wicked' in CA in 97. We only said it ironically to dunk on New Englanders.

"wicked" most definitely made it over here in the 90s. It was never used in the same way as New England though. It was strictly an exclamation about just how cool something was, rather than an addition to a sentence. It was pretty big with skaters. And now I miss the height of rollerblading and am drowning in a pool of nostalgia. Thanks Nick. 😜
