I spoke with Pharmacist and Diabetes Educator, Diana Isaacs, about popular GLP-1 and GIP drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. We cover how they work, their impact on weight loss, how they treat people with diabetes, and the ever growing issue of cost/accessibility. Do you use one of these drugs? Drop your thoughts in the comments ⬇️

I’m T2D and I’ve been on Mounjaro since Aug 2023. I was on insulin and my A1c w/insulin was 9.6. After 6 mos on Mounjaro my A1c is now 5.2 and I no longer take insulin or high cholesterol meds. My blood pressure is also down. I’ve lost about 50 lbs as well. This drug has been a wonderful tool for me. Thank you for this incredibly insightful video with a health professional. Your content is so inspiring to all diabetics. ❤

Diana has a great podcast on diabetes. I like her content a lot. Thanks for this interview. Justin, can you please get an interview with STEFANY SHAHEEN, from BioFabUSA about the current status of cell therapy. They seemed to start putting them into batches and started manufacturing at scale for T1D treatment. Please please please.

I'm a Type 1 and was told that these drugs could not be perscribed for me because it is considered "off label" for weight loss.

Checkout a small study of 10 patents by Paresh Dandona that was published in The New England Journal of Medicine where semaglutide/Ozempic was tested in newly diagnosed T1D patents. At 3 months, all 10 patients were able to eliminate mealtime insulin. At 6 months, 7 of 10 were able to eliminate basal insulin.

Type 1 for 29 years, I've been on Mounjaro for about 8 months. I've managed to bring my A1C down from 7.8 to 6.7 in those 8 months. My insulin sensitivity changed and I've had to lower my Fiasp ratio from 1:10 to 1:14 and 1:18 (my sensitivity seems to change between lunch and dinner). The spikes after eating are significantly tempered and because I don't have the same food cravings for sweets it's thankfully helped curb my poor snacking habits. Additionally I've lost, at current, about 35lbs (from 238lbs to low 200's).

Very ice that she mentioned "time in range (70-140). That 70-180 one needs to go! I personally shoot for 70-130! It has helped a lot!

Great discussion and much needed! Just curious, have you heard of Symlin (pramlintide)? Oh my apologies, I've been trying to watch your videos and there was a short discussion about Symlin (The Future of Ozempic & How it has Evolved) Back in 2012 or 2013 I had gained a significant amount of weight and nothing worked. I was finally properly diagnosed with insulin resistance and the new doctor added Symlin (don't remember what we did with the insulin such as changing besides reducing). It definitely helped me with the insulin resistance and I managed to drop over 100lbs. Today, I ran into self stress and stopped managing my diet as strict and put on 10lbs. Back on the diet and tried the Symlin again but sadly, it doesn't work any longer. Maybe the diet (both vegan and LCSF - vegan for the kidneys)? Would love to see some update to the discussion about Symlin and maybe an idea of why it stops working (no idea if it's just me).

Im type 1, I’ve used Liraglutide (Victoza) for 2 years and it helped me tremendously with my HBA1C. I lost weight on it, but it lost that effect later on. Now I’m trying to get Ozempic but it’s so expensive, since I’m type 1 my insurance won’t cover it

Am I weird? When my blood sugars are high, I'm very hungry. and when my blood sugar is closer to range, I'm not hungry.
