Hello fellow Classic Boaters.
In Part 4 we'll talk about opposite rotation engine piston position, Chris Craft timing, and getting the heads on that required machine work. Feel free to comment and or ask questions.
Here is the link to the reverse rotation piston swap I mentioned. The principals are basically the same and Lakeland Auto Marine is a valuable resource.

The CC dot lined up on the number 1 cylinder is 5 degrees BTDC. More on this in the next video

Let me emphasize one thing that was never mentioned. I have a 350 CC Engine in my boat. The original engine that was in the boat had steel freezeout plugs. Do yourself a favor, which is not expensive, and it will save you a headache later on. Please replace the freezeout plugs with brass ones if the boat is to be used in saltwater. It is not expensive, and it’s a great improvement.

Excellent observation. These blocks do have brass freeze plugs. They are marine blocks from Mich. Motorz. Thanks for the comment

Hi Don. Great video. I’ve had four marine engines. All with generators, not alternators. Regarding the water discharge on the heads. The heads were drilled and tapped to 1/2 NPT on the 1957 Flagship and my new 350. The flanged fittings you described were on the 1959 Chris Craft. The water discharge on the 1961 Chris Craft was from the intake manifold, also 1/2 NPT. I’m sure you know this. The crankshaft rotates twice for every one revolution of the camshaft. Therefore, there is TDS on the compression stroke and the exhaust stroke. You want TDS on the compression stroke. You can tell which is which by looking at the rocker arms.

Thanks for the reply. I'll talk about setting up the firing order and flywheel in the next video

Is the wye fitting on the port manifold that is positioned up supposed to be down for the temperature sensor (if you use it on that side)?

Some boat had dual (two) temp gauges and some only have a single temp gauge. So, for single that fitting is blocked with a plug and for dual temp there would be a temp sender on both sides. Hope that helps
