I've had twin VS GT3582s in my foxbody street car for about 4 years now. First with a 5.3 and now with an LFA (aluminum 6.0) with similar routing (truck manifolds as well). These have been great. They light off fast and make good power with low boost. With the 5.3, it made 600whp on 10psi and 770whp on 15psi (through a t56 and full 2.5" exhaust including flowmaster mufflers). You actually answered a few questions for me while I was brainstorming the idea on Sloppy Mechanics. Cool to see more people using these.

Hey Richard, here's an idea for some easy testing. Crush bent vs. mandrel bent exhaust! Build two exhausts with some bends like for an axle etc, one with mandrel bends, one with crush bends. Run it on some sort of NA combo, or NA and turbo if you're feeling spicy! I have a feeling the crush bends would be almost no difference. On my sloppy turbo Subaru I used a tailpipe section from a silverado to get lots of bends and pipe for very little money into my hotside.

Mr Holdener, i have an idea for a test that would generate some interesting data. Use a centrifugal blower. Make a dyno baseline. Start restricting the exhaust, measuring exhaust backpressure, and it's effect on output. Start with 0 backpressure, then work up to a 3X backpressure. We could learn the effects of high backpressure in turbo motors!!!!😁
@richardholdener1727
@richardholdener1727 3 года назад
that doesn't translate directly over to turbos, but we could see what change back pressure has on blowers
@fascistpedant758
@fascistpedant758 3 года назад
That's what I was thinking yesterday too, but you could also just throttle the exhaust on a turbo set-up.
@kylemilligan752
@kylemilligan752 3 года назад
My thought process is that a centrifugal blower keeps a fixed ratio. Restricting the exhaust up to 3 times boost/manifold pressure should show some data that would help to correlate the effects of pressure differential boost/backpressure in turbo motors. The effects on total output, and required changes in ignition timing as backpressure goes up😀
@kylemilligan752
@kylemilligan752 3 года назад
As backpressure goes up from the restricted exhaust we should see the intake pressure rise, and the engine getting more pissed off, and taking less ignition timing before spark knock.
@kylemilligan752
@kylemilligan752 3 года назад
@@richardholdener1727 I am certain excessive exhaust pressure leads to a higher "gauge" inlet pressure on a supercharged deal. My question is how higher exhaust pressures effect the tune-up and potential output. The fixed ratio centrifugal should start getting pissed, and tolerate less timing as ex pressure goes up from 0 to 3x

I don’t know about Tom Nelson. Don’t always sound like he knows what’s what. These videos are the best though.

Why does the turbo have to use gravity to drain back to the oil pan? Why not use the oil pressure to push the oil back to the oil pan in the case of a low mounted turbo? I want to mount a turbo under the bed of my truck. Do I have to have some sort of special return system?

The seals won't stop oil from leaking through to the turbine and compressor wheel. You must drain the oil before it reaches them.

I would like to see the limits of the stock manifolds on twins vs the stainless ones with the same turbos etc.

Also did you do a video of logs vs manifolds vs stainless vs shorty/mid-length/long tube headers for a single and twin set up?
