🎯 This week I feel a lot better so talking was a lot easier. Let me know if you have any questions and next video will be about organisational design methodologies which is my favourite topic. All information I share is my own experience and views. Best wishes S.

Hello how do you know the predicted figure of those who are likely to resign in the next 12 months?

Hi Cassie. The best way is to look at your resignation rate (or attrition) over the last 12 months or so to see what it may mean for the next 12 months. Also look at exit interview data/narrative if shared, to look at previous reasons as they may happen again. The only way to control resignations is to understand why it happens and see if you can change it by acting on feedback and implementing best practice employee practices together with the whole of organisation/departments. In my experience people tend to resign due to lack of progression (lateral or promotion), limited projects, or interesting/variety work offered. Plus these days it will be inflexible working practices, old fashioned working practices etc so all this needs to be taken to another level to keep people.

This is a difficult and unfair position to find yourself in. Especially as you are developing in the role as well. If you are keen to stay where you are, it’s best to set up a meeting with the boss - who asked about progress. You could simply say, “further to our conversation, I would welcome another opportunity to discuss how to improve things. I suggest we discuss what you would like to see as well as my suggestions as to how improve things.” Something along these lines will do. You also said you all report to a manager who isn’t HR experienced. You do need to raise this point too. I would also set up a meeting with the manager in questions and simply say you are keen to help and improve things and discuss what your objectives could be. Be professional and simply helpful. If you decide to leave, then I hope this has been a lesson for you to ask all sorts of questions. Especially about the HR structure, plans etc Hope this helps. This is what I would do. Anything is better than staying silent. You will be seen as proactive and helpful.

@@Srikeshvu I see, so you work in a very hierarchical team. Here you go a couple of things to learn how to manage upward/people around you: 1. have a meeting with your immediate manager to agree objectives and expectations if possible to avoid any confusion 2. ask them how they would like to work with you, how to report progress etc (is it a weekly meeting, or an email update for example) 3. every time you meet with them and you have a meeting, summarise what you discussed and agreed. So for example, "let me summarise for my notes, you would like me to focus on x, y , z" 4. always ask for a deadline, when they expect your work to be completed by. Again this is to avoid any confusion, if you need more time, simply ask for it and explain what has happened, what you have put in place and your suggested deadline. 5. be brave to suggest solutions and ideas. Simply say "I have been thinking about x, y, z, I am keen to get your feedback." Always seek to collaborate and partner. Be helpful at the end of the day could be your line. Hope this helps for now and the next year flies by to find some else in due course unless things improve where you are.

Hello, I've been in HR for over 19 years as a Generalist. I recently interviewed for a new Generalist role, but I have to do a 5-minute presentation (high level) on a business case (SHRM case) to show why HR should be a strategic partner. I'm so nervous because I've never done this before. Any videos on how to begin?
