Welcome to Krissys Over The Mountain Crochet and Crafts. I designed this easy to crochet cloche, with chemo patients in mind. I am fighting breast cancer, but I haven't lost my hair. It has spurned me on to create beautiful and functional #chemocaps for those who have.

The band that is right below the crown is designed for those that may want a bit of coverage, but the mesh is for airflow. #chemohat
The brim is designed with a bit of flare. You can make an extended brim, so that it will roll up for a face framing effect.
The brim is sturdy enough to hold embellishments. I will show you how to add all three arrangements to this cloche.
The fabric of the hat has a good bit of stretch to it.
There are two sizes
1. Adult - small thru large.
2. Child size.
If you go to the 9:00 minute mark, I will explain the round where you can eliminate the increases, so that it makes a Child size.
I recommend making a gauge swatch using a G-6/4.0mm crochet hook. Here are the instructions.
GAUGE:
4” x 4” = 17 st’s across x 13 rows high
Make a swatch, ch27, hdc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across, ch1 & turn:
Hdc in each st across, ch1 and turn repeat 15x
Here is a link to the written pattern, that also has the instructions on how to make this in a child's size.

While I was at my oncologist I asked them what was best for chemo patients, and the mentioned light weight hats for the warmer months. I chose Lion Brand Cobbo yarn. The yarn is lovely. So light and soft. It does split just a bit, but it wasn't that hard to work around. I have heard it from good authority that it should be hand washed, and laid flat to dry, in order for the yarn to keep it's beauty.
The Mesh Chemo Cap Beanie is very easy and uses #lionbrandcoboo Yarn as well. Below is a video tutorial that shows you how.

I don't see any sizing information. My daughter lost her hair from Chemo and im having difficulty with sizing. Hats turn out too big!. Appreciate your reply. Thanks

Hi Dee, I am so sorry to hear of your daughter's health issues. I hope she is on the mend. Thank you for asking about sizing information. I will add that into the description. There are two sizes, an adult, small thru large, and a child size. The fabric of the hat has a good bit of stretch to it. If you go to the 9:00 minute mark, I will explain the round where you can eliminate the increases, so that it makes a Child size. Also it might help to make a gauge swatch using a "g" hook. Here are the instructions. GAUGE: 4” x 4” = 17 st’s across x 13 rows high Make a swatch, ch27, hdc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across, ch1 & turn: *Hdc in each st across, ch1 and turn* repeat 15x Also here is a link to the written pattern, that also has the instructions on how to make this in a child's size. krissysoverthemountaincrochet.com/2022/05/mesh-chemo-bucket-hat-free-crochet-pattern/ Great question, thank you for asking. In prayer for your daughter. Kris

I am so sorry you are going through treatments. Sending up a prayer for you. Sometimes the skin can be sensitive while going through those treatments, so I recommend Lion Brand Coboo yarn. I have a crochet pattern for a men's beanie that I think you may like. It wasn't intended to be a chemo cap, but for a close fitting hat for a man. I didn't used Coboo yarn, I used Caron Simply Soft, and if the skin is easily irritated, then that yarn may not work for you. I believe you will need to go up one hook size if you are using coboo. Here is a link to the crochet pattern. krissysoverthemountaincrochet.com/2021/03/how-to-crochet-simple-beanie-that-men-love/

I did row 11 once and row 12 to 15, which gave me 5 rows. I am confused about row 16. Isn’t it the same as the other rows. I don’t see an extra row on your hat. I only see 5 rows.

Rows 12-15 is 4 rows. If you look at the pink hat on the right, the band is 4 rows. Here is a link ot the written patten that explains row 16. Let me know if this is a help to you. krissysoverthemountaincrochet.com/2022/05/how-to-decorate-the-mesh-chemo-bucket-hat/

Thank you. I made several of your patterns for my friend. Probably 13/14 hats of different colors. She liked them because they were so comfortable. Sadly she passed on Easter. I am now making the hats now to donate. Thank you

New sub! Love your content! ❤ btw.. caboo yarn is horrible at splitting!

Thanks for subbing! I agree...it really is. I tried a chemo cap in truboo as well, and it was like trying to contain water and it split too. I love coboo for the softness to the skin...if acrylic weren't so harsh to a chemo patient skin, I would use that all day long. Take care, and thank you so much for subbing, Kris
