Bless your heart! How are you doing now? When I was at the Cancer Center for an appointment, I asked them what was needed. They let me look through the donations, and you are right...there were some really scratchy yarns. I am glad you told me about Caron Simply Soft. It does seem like it could be a little irritating. I will try the Feels Like Buttah next. I have a man's chemo cap designed, I just need to write the pattern and make the video. I made a winter chemo cap with Pipsqueak. It has a turned up brim. It won't work if your head is blistered as there is too much fuzz, but they nurses told me that they thought it would be a good thing to donate. I am curious about your flannel squares. Did you tie them like a Doo Rag? I am seamstress also, and I wonder if that would be a good thing to donate? Or maybe a beanie that is sewn? I need to look into that. Any advice will be gladly received.

@Krissys Over The Mountain Crochet And Crafts I'm so sorry I don't know why I am just seeing this. The flannel squares were mostly just a big square that I folded over in a triangle and wore I guess like Rosie the Riveter if you remember that old WW2 picture, or with the tie in the back and tuck the corner underneath it. I couldn't crochet myself anything as the chemo gave me horrible nueropathy. My mother-in-law made me one with the camel stitch in the round like a headband, and then hdc in decreases to close up the top in an ivory fleece yarn. That was great for winter. One sew project I think would be great if you can get the fabric at a good deal, is an infinite scarf out of a stretchy fabric. The two I bought were very thin, almost gauze like, but stretchy. I wrapped it around my head twice (so one twist) and then gathered it all in the back into a bun. I probably got the most compliments out of that. By the time I got to the end of treatment I was too sick to care what I looked like or that narly radiation burns showed all over my head, but I was stage 4 and fighting to survive basically. Not something I'd wish on anyone. I'm 5 years out and treatment left me disabled, but I'm still here. 🙂

Thank you letting me know on the types of yarns that would help them to feel better and not itch too much with losing their hair is damage enough from the treatment .... don't need to have it itch.....

Hi Jan, I am so happy you are going to try this easy chemo cap. What a blessing that you are going to be making these for others who are in need. I agree the hats need to be washed. With this particular yarn and most yarns, you will want to lay it flat to dry. I don't recommend putting the hat in the dryer. I don't recommend washing the "yarn" before crocheting the hat. I have heard from others who have tried it that it creates a lot of knots. Thank you so much for asking this question. It was a good one. God Bless, Kris

You can give it a go. I would play with the hook size, maybe go down one size? Keep in mind that this hat was designed for those going through chemo, so it's a bit on the small side anyway. Depending on your head size it might come out perfect for you.

You may get a larger hat if you do.

When you battle breast cancer they put you on a hormone blocker that gives terrible hot flashes. So there is a need for a cooling type of cap. I also have designed many chemo caps that are not mesh. I recommend Lion Brand Coboo or other extremely soft cottons, as your skin becomes so touchy, that acrylic can be unbearable for some. So I agree, bamboo yarn is wonderful. Thank you for your input Debbie. Battling Cancer is not fun. I am just trying to provide as many alternative caps as possible for those in need.
