So my sister & I started halving the expense of her glasses or other needs she might have that are expensive on top of a day together with other heartfelt gifts. She was a blessing & we were thankful to have a good mother.

This brought a big-chuckle memory to me - years ago one of my friends insisted that she could not cook or bake. However, she would bring the most delicious angel food cakes to our birthday coffees. I always thought they were made from scratch because they were just like the ones I used to make when I had chickens and an over abundance of eggs. So, I told all the young gals who thought they couldn't cook or bake this story. After many years I remarked about this to my friend -- turned out she used a cake mix..............Thanks for the memory!

I’m 50 and I still remember being 11 years old and my aunt bought me a cosmetic bag filled with miniature lotions and potions and little perfumes I literally sat there for hours and took them out and then put them back in again over and over 😂 I was so in awe at all the scents and creams my aunt had picked out , it’s the gift I remember the most ❤

This past month I gave my aunt the gift of power washing her incredibly large and very dirty concrete driveway for her birthday. It took me about 8 hours to do it because it was that bad. But she was so thrilled to have it look like it was brand new. If I can figure out something like this to do it is a win/win. It only cost me my time and about 6 gallons of gas.

For me, the best gifts are seeds and recipes. They are gifts that keep on giving.

Such a wonderful gift for your brother to make the beautiful cake and to start growing the mango tree. I am sure he loved it. You are 100% right…gift giving is truly not meant to be “see how much $ I spent on you?” It’s about thinking about the person and giving something you know they will enjoy and appreciate. It does not have to cost an arm and a leg. It truly is the thought that counts. I use an app on my phone where I can keep track of gift ideas I have for people’s birthdays and the holidays. It is great as you can jot down ideas over the year, set reminders and you can even set a budget to keep track so you don’t overspend.

Just buy or make gifts that people will actually use. I will be giving my brother a food gift for Christmas, that I know he loves, and is not easy to find here. My daughter will receive a gift card for a favorite cosmetics store she loves, my son has already received what he wanted because it was only offered at that special price a little while ago. But as always, I fill stockings, and have some smaller gifts for them under the tree Christmas morning. We will be going out to a restaurant for Christmas dinner (yes!) After many, many years of hosting, its exhausting, and I greatly enjoy going out.

I recently subscribed to your channel and I really enjoy your videos. Especially this one on gift giving. My mom taught me hiw to give gifts frugally. She had the same thoughts you do. Me and my husband always gift in a frugal way. Wrap it beautifully if it's something that can be wrapped. Love the tree gift you gave your brother. We pick up things throughout the year. We watch for clearance items. One of my friends loves taking a bath but can't afford fancy bubble bath or bath boms things like that. Last week saw bath stuff on clearance and we new she would love it so we got it for Christmas. I also have given a cake like yours or even made a special dinner. Anyway enough rambling. I loved everything about this video, Emmy! I love hand made gifts-but making a homemade gift using the best of ingredients is just sooooo very special! The best, high quality gifts, can also be easy on the purse strings! I know far too many people who will spend $30.00 on a walmart Bakery or Costco cake (with all of the “ mystery” ingredients😳) because it’s easier for them. Great video! I so agree that thoughtful gifts are best. My sister and I are both avid thrift and antique shoppers and always buy second hand gifts for each other. This past Christmas she bought me an old wooden cheese box and filled it with little odds and ends. That was my favorite gift. I crocheted 3 cowls for her in her favorite colors and put them in an old hatbox i found at Goodwill. She was very pleased. My problem is my two teenage grandkids (13 + 17). I end up giving them gift cards or money. Would love to buy them special gifts, but what they might love is way out of my price range. Have a wonderful week!

Very thoughtful gifts. Your brother's yard is beautiful. Everything is so green now. I love real whipped creme. Cool Whip to me tastes awful like plastic or something. Do you have Stewarts store near you? If so, their can of whipped creme ...the Stewart brand...found in the cooler by the milk, tastes exactly like you whipped it yourself. It is the best. Try it sometime. Nice to meet your family. I love your blouse again. You always have the prettiest patterned, colorful tops. Your pup is a cutie!

Plus homemade cakes taste way better than store bought. Recently bought a birthday cake for my husband’s birthday for $35. It was terrible. Should have stuck with my angel food cake with fresh strawberries and real whipped cream. Tastes way better at a third of the price. Want to try the Black Forest cake you made a while back. I wish my family would understand and appreciate the thought behind gifts. I'm a knitter/crocheter/spinner, so one year I started in the summer, picked out yarns for each family member based on colors they like, and I crocheted or knitted them each an individual item based on their personalities. I spent hundreds of hours on these gifts. They all laughed at me and said I was being cheap. It was so embarrassing. I never did it again. I will not put in the time for people who do not care. Now, I just buy iTunes gift cards and move on. If only people would appreciate time and effort!!
