How to Install a Newel Post on a Stair or Balcony using the ZIPBOLT Super UT 

I used toilet bowl wax on the first one. Saw blocks of beeswax while I was in the hardware store and tried that on the second one. A lot easier. Used beeswax on the rest of them. I think toilet bowl wax used to bee beeswax.

You make this so easy. I have a basement floor with 3/4 plywood base. How would you secure it to that? The post would lean against 2-2x4's standing vertically at the base where the side of the stair starts to angle up.

I needed a product like this in the U.K. nothing here available I needed to secure a newel post to a concrete floor and notched into the bottom tread of staircase. Ended up using a fence post support with a flat plate bolted into the floor and the 25mm threaded rod upright resined into a corresponding hole in the bottom of post. Worked a treat. I did however find zipbolt a available from Axminster tools online to fix all rails to posts which seem to work well enough.

is the newel post and the cap a different wood type? Poplar vs Red oak? I know its a small detail but I wonder if they have the kits specific to the wood type so it matches and you can get the grain direction closer. thank you

What if there is no meat for the lag bolt to dig into? My house has web trusts and I'm not sure if there is any blocking below to hit

My works too. Used WoodPrix handbooks and build it with no problems.

could you use this system to join a short renewed newel post into a newel base. ie. the 18 inch stump of an old newel post that is secure.....thanks

what do you use on concrete

too much work with that method and you have to buy lots of stuff... try Professional Stair Fasteners --"L bracket post fastener kit" @ surface mount ;your base trim covers the brackets ; kit comes with molding but i used the same trim used everywhere else in the house and just cut the back out a bit to fit...

this is a horrible excuse for good work,,, no excuse for securing the newel post into the floor structure

Not sure why your would surface mount Newels?? That looks like crap and you know it..... I like your last comment- " Makes Stair building easy" ha ha ha
