I have been in the industry 7+ years and here are just some of my tips on making alot of money and being successful. 1. Work in a super high volume restaurant 2. Always be willing to come in early and close. 3. Be willing to pick up extra bar and serve shifts. Some bartenders think serving is beneath them. Well money is not beneath me. 4 Be clean, presentable, work fast, minimize mistakes, be friendly and courteous. 5. Find a place that will let you work 5-7 shifts a week as a base. Buddy up with the one who makes the schedule. Trust me 6. Take advantage of the lazy bartenders and servers. They will always give up shifts. Be smart and save money. 7. Dont go out drinking with everyone every night. Dont order food for yourself every night. Focus on your finanacial goals. 8. Capitalize on every oppurtunity to make money. Do not turn down large parties because they are alot of work. Develop a hustlers mentality and work your ass off and you will be golden trust me. Hope this helped someone out there :)

Totally agree with the drink/food advice. I have had a couple of friends trigger their addictions from their work at a place that let them drink a few at work, others pack on pounds or get fired. Lesson learned the hard way. Also #6 so true if you can be the one others call if they can't make it you pick up shifts.

I love my job , I would never make this much anywhere else bartending ! 🙆🏼 I make around 4K a month more or less ... my income last year was well over 20k ... I love my job #proud bartender !

Stephanie Christine same as you, I bartend at the airport I have a union, benefits and make 4-6 grand a month depending on which bar in the airport I choose to work at. I both love and hate my job, it's given me alot and I'm grateful for it, it changed my life when I was in a bad spot I was able to buy a home and car and put away savings but I wish I could have your attitude about bartending I envy people who are proud bartenders... I feel like my family is disappointed and they look down on me 🙁😕

nordette u know , when I first started bartending my attitude wasn't the way it was I dreaded going to work I hated it, but once I started actually having conversations with customers , and meeting people from all around the world I started to love my job I used to be really shy and quiet lol... to be completely honest my family wasn't very supportive of me when I started bartending , once they saw me buy my first car, my house , save money ... send money to my family in Mexico take trips and was able to provide my son with everything he needs and more ... they started to really respect it...u should always do what makes u happy no matter what anyone thinks if u love it , do it 🙏🏼

I have made more money bartending than any other job I've worked. I'm going based off on my own salary but lets just say on average you make $200 a day/night. Ive always tried to get 5 days a week. 200x5=1000. $1000 a week. 1000x4=4000. $4000 a month. Now if you have good people skills and know how to hustle you can and will make alot more. One thing I was taught and understood early on is build up your customer/regular base. Just because your a male bartender doesn't mean you can't have a good following. I've worked bartending on and off for years and the reason why the salaries are listed as so low is because 90% of bartenders do not report their tips either at all or they report a very inaccurate low ball amount to pay less taxes. I would say whatever the listed salary is on average add an extra 10k per year. In nyc expect to make around 30-50k a year minimum as long as you work fri and sat shifts of course this amount increases significantly if you work clubs and/or are a pretty female. speaking from my personal experience.

I work on the cruise lines. As a bartender I make 2400 euros a month tax free,1% commission of all revenue sales, 1000 euros bonus every 4 months, I get tipped on top of that also. I get my food and drinks for me while on contract. My uniform dry cleaned. All traveling and medical expenses covered. The flip side I don't get paid when off, however I have a good reputation in my craft so I do private events and big events, training sessions for bars, plus working shifts here and there.

I had one employer willing to flex on my hours and the bar gig had a great friend who set up everything for me when I got in. Concerts, NHL, NFL " 5-7 hundred per game " then shift to full concert venue 20 plus gigs per year - It can be done. Best gigs are NHL's or NBA - 50 to 70 gigs a year 300.00 per gig.

@@TheBestBartender My restaurant bar is in a small blue collar city of about 10,000 and my best average about $300 (top shifts $600, worst $150). The main reason is everyone tips well because they are regulars and not transient customers who know they will never see you again. A secondary reason is the standards are lower than NYC or Vegas so a quality bartender gets recognized.

I've got 18 years in. Very accurate stuff here. Run the math. If you make 20% in tips off of your sales which is what the avg person will do (18% male/22% female) then you need to consistently hit $2,000 in sales every single shift on average. Most places will limit you in one way or another. If the sales are that high consistently then they will open additional bar stations to dilute the sales or you will have to compete against other people wanting to work. Extremely difficult to make happen on a consistent basis unless you are in a high end hotel with a good shift base or have the ability to rotate through the hottest night clubs.

It's been my biggest dream to become a bartender, I'm 21 and I've been finally trying so hard to get into it but I feel like nobody is taking me seriously because i'm petite, I genuinely look 15 and sound 12, I guess it would be weird to get served alcohol by what looks like a little girl. I started volunteering at this place that has a bar, got trained and everything, I know a TON of stuff about alcohol as I've researched and read a lot simply because it's interesting to me. I'm super social and bubbly , I love love love people and interacting with them! Anyway, my first bar shift ever as a volunteer, I'm working with this 60+ year old man, it's already weird, it looks like he's working with his grand daughter or something 😑 But we talk about the bar and he asks me how come I wanna volunteer at the bar, and then he asks me if I just finished school. I sigh, hahahaa. Anyway, when customers come, nobody ever comes to me first, they all go to the old man to be served and they'll even all cue up on his side in order to be served by him while my side is totally empty. I feel a little defeated, I'm 21, I'm not gonna change in appearance anytime soon, I'm done growing basically, is bartending a hopeless dream for me because of this? Will employers not want to hire me because I look so damn young? Or is it all in my head and this stuff doesn't matter at all?

Yeah, but that was my whole point with this video, most bartenders in the states don't make a very good living. Some outliers definitely do, but for the most part we are living in the low income bracket. You're on par with most average bars for a day shift with those numbers :)

@sixarett
@sixarett 7 лет назад
Id say it really depends, is It just a hotel with a bar lobby area? Or is it a hotel & resort, I work at a hotel and resort and bartenders here make about 150-250 a night. I couldn't imagine a hotel with a lobby bar making much at all unless an event nearby has came in and lots of clientele are staying at the hotel for the period of time

what kind of place did you work for, if you dont mind myy asking? im a bartender in los angeles. worked at the roosevelt hotel in hollywood for 4 years and was making $15 an hour plus an average of 250 a night. ive met a few people who have said theyve made $400 a night average but never got the names of the places they worked for. $400 a night was a good night at the Roosevelt, where i bartended. it wasnt rare. sometimes 2 to 3 times a week. but i want to find one of those $400 places. i have theories. my guess is like an upscale sushi restaurant that has entrees that cost 50 dollars on average and their cocktails are 20 dollars average. and they probably autograt. and you probably wear a black tie or a pressed white shirt. and big name people come to your establishment on a regular basis. thats my guess.

I dunno what this guys talking about. He must have had some shitty jobs….if you’re only making 100$ a shift bartending then you’re working at the wrong bar. Period. Go somewhere else. You should be getting 350 a shift AT LEAST on the weekends, and about 150-250 during the week. You should avg about $200-250 a shift, or higher if you’re good at it and you have a good bar job. If you’re willing to work till 2 am or so then you SHOULD be looking at about 500-600 a shift on the weekends. This is assuming you’re a good bartender though, not all bartenders can handle how busy and quick you have to be to get that kinda money.

@@braccin well come to think of it, you’re probably right. There are a lot of shitty bartending jobs out there. A lot of them…But there’s a lot of good ones too. There’s a lot of places that just hire anyone off the street to work behind the bar without even having serving experience. Probably not the kinda places where you’re gonna make good money. I just think if you’ve got experience and you know you’re good at your job you should expect to get paid accordingly. We work really hard for our money. Long shifts with no lunch breaks, no PTO (no sick days…), no benefits, nothing. If you’re not making at least $30/hr then I don’t think it’s even worth it to do this kind of work.

@@braccin you learn all the drinks and stuff just by doing it every day. The hard part is keeping up with how many of them you have to make and how many people there are who want their drinks “RIGHT NOW!!!” It’s all about speed and being able to maintain a super fast pace for hours on end with no breaks. My wife’s a bartender too, and she always says “be like a duck on water. On the surface the duck looks calm and relaxed like he’s just enjoying the world around him, but under the water his feet are kicking a million miles an hour”. She always tells me to “be the duck” when I’m bartending lol 🦆

Yes I plan on taking it on full time if not 6 days a week, gna take the elite bartending course and what should I do right after (step by step if possible) do I just apply for bartending positions or get bar back first or a server and work my way into it & okay thanks for the dynamics on the amount I should be making and how exactly should I choose to what spot I apply to? Or would it just be better to become a bartender at any local pub or a non busy busy one and get at least 6 months down before applying elsewhere just to say u have bar experience?

So, you're pulling close to $240K/year... as a bartender? That's awesome jaymi, but you also must realize you are at the extreme upper end of the $$ spectrum. Do you think most bartenders across the country, or world, are pulling $1000 a shift? I've done the research, and the time in a busy market; most are not anywhere near that, outside of a select few places in specific super heated areas. As depressing as it may seem to you, these are the averages for our industry. But it's good for people to hear of the high dollar successes that are possible in this job, so thank you for sharing :)
