Karela is one of my favourite vegetables to eat with some dal and rice, I can't find these bitter gourd very often so when I do get hold of these I love making this absolutely delicious 'Karela Fry' which is easy to make and is a flavour packed dish that you must try.

I'm from Trinidad and we call this carailli. Lots of people either love it or hate it because of the bitterness. I love it, but I've rarely had an amazing carailli dish. This looks great. I can't wait to try. Btw I even know people who eat carailli raw. 😱

We have made this recipe tonight , never cooked with Karela before , but seen it in our local Asian shops we weren’t sure how to prepare it. Anyway we’ve followed your recipe tonight and really enjoyed every mouthful along with Dahl and rice - so thankyou and we have subscribed and an easy thumbs up for this recipe.

Hey Chetna! I have a question. I want to make one of the dishes in the book when the recipe calls for dried Fenugreek leaves. I can't find them unfortunately, but I can find seeds. Can I substitute the leaves for the seeds or should I just leave it out?
@sreeharshithavelaga3672
@sreeharshithavelaga3672 6 лет назад
Hi. Dried fenugreek leaves are called Kasurimethi. They are available online and in Indian stores.
@lala7701
@lala7701 6 лет назад
I know. I live in Israel and we have a problem getting them here if you're not Indian (the stores are only allowed to import small amounts so it goes right to their family and friends). I ordered one online but it will take at least two weeks to arrive, so I want to know what to do in the meantime.
@FoodwithChetna
@FoodwithChetna 6 лет назад
So the seeds are very very different to the leaves, if you can't find the leaves then skip it in the recipe and try it without it.

@TheEnneite
@TheEnneite 6 лет назад
So if I understand you well enough : I said something based on something I read. You found that strange but choose not to google it like any normal person and ask for a source. I kindly link you the article that first tickled my attention on the matter but, still, you consider that's it's my responsability to provide you with a source article that would qualify as reliable to your highly discerning mind. Did I understand your position well? Do you act like that in your daily life? Do you not know how to use google to find out about facts you consider dubious? Do people have to hold your hand every time they tell you something that you didn't know before?
@zucchinigreen
@zucchinigreen 6 лет назад
Etienne Ponnau Hey. In the Wikipedia article you listed, right next to the section where they say karela has an abortive properties are the words "unreliable source". When you go to the actual Sloan-Kettering integrative medicine site, they themselves have a multi-paragraph disclaimer saying the claims made in the post you are about to read are not proven by any regulatory body or is supported by the center, do you want to proceed. The post about abortive properties is anecdotal. Ergo, at every point, your source is unreliable. I don't need to Google anything. It's spurious pseudo-science. Do I need to handhold you through how critical thinking and deductive reasoning works? Or perhaps you should go back to English 101. Thanks for sharing though. I do appreciate it.
