In this video I go over the oil change procedure on a Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel engine.
Big diesel engines can seem a little intimidating to some, so they end up taking their diesel truck to the dealership for something as simple as an oil change. I just wanted to show you all that doing maintenance on a diesel engine is just as easy as a gasoline engine.

Careful with those low voltage starts on the 6.0. That can damage the FICM. Just heads up

regarding 0:21 Just a heads up for others. i incidently overfilled because the video said 4 gallons but if you buy Motorcraft diesel oil the big jug comes 1.24 gallons so you just need 3 jugs of Motorcraft. Glad i found the issue of having an overfilled amount of oil. My powerstroke did not like that but still was able to drive just wasn't idling smoothly like im used to.

Soaking the filter seems like a messy unnecessary step. The oil filter housing remains empty anyways since cranking the engine over is the only way for it to begin filling with oil.

I think he is talking about the filter itself being brand new dry, I believe he talking about the oil circulating in the housing being filtered as it is dry and be hard to filter when it's dry rather than it had already been soaked or used before

I know this is a bit after the fact since some of these answers are a few years ago, but in another video the guy doing the vid used an after market filter ( but from a quality filter maker) and it came with a rubber seal to replace the one in the oil filter seal cap. He did so because the one in the cap had become flat( which was very noticeable in the video) this wasn’t covered in this video. He he neglect to mention it or is the Motocraft seal an additional cost and part number?

Cut off a few inches off the top of the 5 gallon bucket. Works like a charm

Thanks for the video! My fear is not tightening the drain plug tight enough. Is there a good way to know how tight to make it?

It’s a feel, if your not sure, get a torque wrench. 15-18 ft lbs.

Nice video, just bought a 06 powerstroke F350, did my research and want to use rotella for my oil with some archoil in there too. I have a question, how many miles do you go inbetween oil changes. I figure its synthetic so it can go longer, i only use my truck to drive to work and home, days off light traveling, i dont tow or go offroading. I only put 10 miles a day 5 days a week.

5000km google km to miles for conversion . Cus u do short trips .

The dealer oil filter is only engineered to go 5000 miles. Best to change every 5000 miles or 5 or 6 months.

Got a question. Had a recent oil change on my 6.0 diesel F250 2005. Since the oil change I'm having quite a bit of leaking of oil on the ground. Could this be from the filter not fitting correctly or from the oil fill cap not being secure? I did have a very little oil leak before the oil change but nothing like I now have. Thanks for any opinion or help.

Do you happen to know if the STP XL filters are the right size? I picked one up the other day not knowing this since apparently the AutoZone I go to doesn't even carry the right Motorcraft filter so I would really like some input on this before I go and put it in

I have only ever used the Ford Motorcraft filters because that’s what Ford recommends and I have heard horror stories from people who have used other brand filters. So I’m sorry but I don’t know about the STP XL filters.

@@DrewskisGarage I looked into it and thankfully they are more or less if not exactly the same filter apparently the big issue is with the ones from Napa Auto Parts not fitting properly as well as disintegrating and destroying the motor but from the looks of it the STP Excel I bought is both the right side and is not made of any plastic that can break off in the system like the Napa

First time on diesel world, can I switch oil from t4 to t6 rotella? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can switch from T4 to T6. T4 is a blended conventional oil while the T6 is a full synthetic oil. Just drain all the T4 out and fill it up with T6. The T6 rotella is a much better oil.

@@lucifchristo not in this modern of an engine that is not known for problematic leaks. The t6 is better for the hpop and injectors. If you are worried about mixing. Do a couple oil changes close together and that should have you running straight t6. But this guy is very far from a knowledgeable 6.0 person, so pay little to no attention to what he says or does. PLEASE! Guy doesn't know that a 5gal. Pail doesn't fit. Clearly his first rodeo, so.........

Yep thought it was the 5w that you should use in cold/freezing weather places.

Hello, What year is your 6.0? Mine is an 04 & spec's say I should use 5w-20 premium. What do you think in regards to that? Thank you

Use 15w-40 or 5w-40. Don't use 5w-20 its too thin of an oil.

@@guacamoleweiner69 you observed wrong. He is using 5w40 rotella t6. The ideal oil. Whole different animal. He's wrong on a lot of things in this short simple task, but you are even worse.
