THANK YOU! You just saved me and my husband! We just got back from Tampa from Nashville. We hit everything, flight delays, missed a layover fight, canceled flights, had to stay a night and everyone around us had nothing because they checked there bags. You gave me everything I needed to know to travel carry on only. Thank you again!
Great tips…here’s one I learned the hard way. Tie a scarf, appropriate for the weather, to your purse. Why? Because if you slop yummy sauce on the front of your shirt and water or quick stain remover don’t quite do the job you can hide that stain with your scarf!
Compression packing cubes in different sizes are The Answer!! Mine have a very lightweight folding board that I find helps minimize wrinkles - which some fabrics need. May I suggest for Europe - avoid “travel logo” t-shirts. They identify us as tourists, and pickpockets are always looking for tourists to target. P.S. Ollie is just the cutest. May he never grow old ☺️ Love your channel❤️
I know what you mean about the tourists call-out. We were in New Orleans with family, my son being around 13 at the time. That's when the Chicago Bulls were popular (Michael Jordan). He was wearing a Bulls shirt, and a man following behind us as we were walking started jeering and taunting him as "Chicago boy." Kind of scary.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I am curious as to why one shouldn’t wear plaid since we haven’t traveled to Europe yet. I absolutely love your channel and have recommended it to many of my friends, including posting links on my Facebook page. Thanks for all the travel tips!
@@kbue2847 You’re so nice to do that!! I just do not think they wear it very much. We will stick out as Americans no matter what most likely. But sometimes it makes you stick out if you look different and pick picketers in some areas may target you more. It’s not a major thing but just something to maybe not wear.
Thank you for the “Minute Suites” video, I “happen” to see it 20 minutes before going to the airport for an overseas flight. Your information “saved” me on the way back and even gave me a discount. I was able to sleep 4 hrs before getting on a 7:00am flight home, it made such a difference and I didn’t even have to leave the security area. Thank you, Thank you! Keep the travel trips coming.
I cheat on vacations. I rearrange my girls suitcases and add my stuff. 😁 They know the carry-on only rule is for international travel. 🙄 We always have just a mom and daughters trip once a year and several with the other halves and grandbabies! Making sure everything mixes and matches is key!! Compression bags are great!! I don’t know how I packed all my things before packing and compression cubes! Congratulations on the 100,000!! 🎊🎉
Love your tips, love your channel, love you! I fly very seldom, my husband never. Our trips are by car and your packing tips are really handy for that! It keeps me from overpacking, which is so easy to do when you are not bound by airlines restrictions. Thanks so much for providing us with guidelines!
I'm team fold instead of rolled. Thanks for another great video! I travel for business quite often and use this basic system for packing, just upscaling things a little (slacks instead of jeans, a skirt, nicer t-shirts and blouses...)
I still plan to visit England and Scotland next May. I have my whole packing list written down already, have all the accessories for travel I will need, and my outfit list written down. Several T-shirts with shells that coordinate with pants to wear over the Ts. Tan and blue with some multi colors to match tan and navy blue pants. 2 weeks with a carry on and compression bags! LOVE your tips, Laurie, and they have helped me tremendously!
Another great, informative video. There are 2 and 2.5 gallon zipper-bags (a/k/a Ziploc/Hefty) available that are fabulous for compressing items. I like them especially for re-packing dirty clothes, but work for individually puffy pieces that need to be squished. Happy travels all.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie - I know right!! Well when I get back from Germany, Switzerland & Austria next year I will let you know the new requirements for those countries.
Thanks Laurie…all good advice! We went to the Outer Banks last weekend and I was soooooo out of practice to pack correctly…took wayyy too much stuff!! When we got home, I immediately dumped all my travel necessities onto the bed and sort thru them…cuz we are finally getting to Las Vegas - YAY! - in Dec for my birthday. And let me tell you- purging thru all that junk I didn’t need plus the duplicates I had packed was a life changing experience….now everything is correctly defined in proper TSA order for my carry on and stowed luggage, complete with notes about what to add at the last minute - like those charging cords. I blame my need to overpack personal stuff on when we used to travel to the Caribbean and Mexico - and there wasn’t a CVS on every corner and boy if you had a little tyke in tow and needed bandages, otc drugs or toothpaste…you were stuck! 💖💖💖💖💖 to you, intrepid traveler!!
Thanks for the info....out of packing routine since the Pandemic. My husband and I are flying to a location, renting a car and travelling for a week. Fall outfits are what I need so all of your tips will help me alot when packing my outfits. So excited to be travelling again.
hi, Lory I heard that in 2023 you will be able to cruise with your pet. I'm melting for your dog and I can imagine how happy he will be not be left behind.👍😘
I bought a down jacket and coat from Lands End and they are both packable in their own bags. They are great for travel. I was surprised when I saw them packed in their bags as they don't take up much room in my carry on bag. I enjoy learning from your videos. I have started buying Merino Wool clothes from Woolly Clothes as they are made of Merino Wool and Pro Knit is another item they have.
Congratulations on the 100k! Your videos are very helpful. I don't fly often (we usually road-trip because we travel with large dogs), but I have a family event to fly to soon & am so glad I found your channel. I was worried about the changes in the system since the last time I flew, & your videos really helped me to understand how to pack my carry on & hopefully not get pulled out of line by the TSA. 😎
Great tips as always Laurie, thanks so much. Down jackets are fabulous I have one from Uniqlo and it will "smoosh" into your bag or it has it's own travel bag with a drawstring that is so handy. X
Thanks for all the great tips. I live in Dallas, and I am anxious to start traveling again. I enjoy your vlogs and look forward to new ones. Please, keep up the good work.
CONGRATULATIONS ON 100,000+ SUBSCRIBERS!!! Great tip about checking the local weather, I can't tell you the people on our trips who have failed to do this and show up without umbrella/rain jacket or only have cloth shoes that get wet.
I love your videos! We just finished a trip to Ireland, and are getting ready for a trip to Paris in December. This is excellent advice. I told my daughter and daughters in law to check you out for tips. They love you too! I really appreciate how you make videos that are useful for seasoned travelers as well as newbies. Without talking down to us. Thanks!
Fabulous. I believe you are following the Capsule Wardrobe concept. (My go to.) My next trip is UK and Ireland (Nov 2021). I need to pack for rain, rain, rain (80-100%). I need to add business suits to my casual clothes. (Can't dress up denim.) Be well.
Hello Laurie & Aullie! Another great vlog PACKED with experience. I'm looking for a few merino t's in black. I only buy what will travel well and now have a minimalist wardrobe. I just keep practicing every time I motor over to see my mama! (One day we'll walk the aisle again) Nice choices on the outfits! I've noticed Europe is always a season ahead of us on the styles, but then I'm never gonna be a trend setter. Thank you for all the links! Wanda
Hi Laurie! Love your videos! I’m taking a group of high schoolers to London on a theatre trip this spring and have been sharing your videos with them. I’m hoping they’re watching so we’re all prepared! This will definitely be my most prepared trip to date!! Thank you!!
I'm unsure if I'll ever fly again but I do travel enough to visit family, many of your tips have helped me so I won't overpack yet again. I just ordered more of my suited nomad compresion packing cubes and Amazon slender packing cubes. I've even started using them to organize in my dresser and stuff. Ll bean had some awesome pouches I got in just today, I'm addicted to both, I love that you influenced it and gave me organizing ideas, my husband may not be as thrilled haha!
Hi Laurie...I absolutely love & appreciate every travel tip & hack videos you make. I wish I starting watching you before my trip to Jamaica in 2019, I would have carried alot less. plus it was my husband & I first trip after our daughter (8yr)was born. Our surprise the changes at our Canadian airport. We let the lady scan our passport & print our tickets since we didnt know what to do. WE cant wait to travel again, our first trip will be Boston, since we love it there esp at Halloween in Salem.
I've just started to travel and am def a novice. I so appreciate your videos. I'm headed to Salem at end of Oct and need great tips and advice for traveling. I often have to watch your videos twice just to make sure I don't miss anything. I wished I could have you come over and help keep me from overpacking! Thanks Laurie🛩
If you don't have compression cubes you can use all these tips AND use gallon or 2 gallon plastic bags and expel the air.....while not a neat and pretty as compression cubes...it does work. As always love your videos
Great I just placed items for Houston next month in small roll on using cubes it felt stuffed. I didn’t have room for shoes and I think I’ll put hanging bag in my personal item and I know I’ll get to go laundry so not over pack my clothes trying to not have to check luggage
Good points! Sorry about the lack of awnings, but they're not much help here in the winter with a foot of snow on them. (they collapse)! I always carry a palm sized umbrella - and have one in each pocket of the car, in my purse, and in my suitcase.
Always useful tips! Went to Dubai last September and I used several of your tips! Compression cubes, rolling clothes, using space strategically and personal bag with essentials. We are going to PR and I am planning to use the same tips but this time since is a different destination I am using a carry on only. So I have to use more of your tips! Thanks!
More great ideas. Your clothes always look so good on you. Thanks for revealing that it took you two years to reach 1000 subs. I don’t feel so bad now🤪
As always, great tips-& now a shopping list of tee shirts, lol. Your tip about packing shoes individually was a life-changer on my last 2 trips; I take a few of the plastic umbrella bags that retailers have at the door when it rains to cover my shoes in the suitcase. Thanks for all the great tips & advice!
I’d love to see a video on best travel shoes for wide footed folks. I always see wide TOED shoes but my whole foot is wide! I recommend “xero shoes” or similar barefoot (zero drop) shoes
I love your channel. I’m pretty good at packing for a trip. My problem is packing at the hotel to go home, with the dirty laundry and souvenirs. My last trip to Disney with the girls I had to buy a another suitcase just to bring everything home. Any advice?✈️🗽🏰🧳🎒
I pack a light-weight, folding duffel bag that I can put in the bottom of my carry-on. If I need extra space for treasures on the way home, I use that as my carry-on and check the other bag. I also use a zip lock compression bag for my dirty clothes. After rolling out all the air from that bag, I have more room for treasures.
Another great video! Thank you. Congrats on the 100K subscribers! I look forward to all your videos and have watched most of them. I just bought the umbrella and packing cubes you recommended and will give them a try. I am leaving for Turkey in 12 days so I am a bit overwhelmed with all the extra things international travelers have to do now ( Covid-19 Vaccination cards, Covid-19 PCR tests with QR codes within the time limits, health forms, eVisas, etc). Even though I have been traveling for several years since I retired now as often as I can (Covid-19 really messed my plans: several canceled and rescheduled more than once), packing is always stressful for me. I am an over-packer still trying to cut back. Thanks again! Happy travels!
Yes, when we went to Hawaii, we were so nervous about crossing our ts and dotting our i's. But when you get to Turkey, it'll all be worth it! Have such a great time!! And don't take all the fluff. Just take mix and match stuff and 2 pairs of shoes. Don't try to look cute; just live!!
Thanks for the tips! I am going to Las Vegas and Arizona in a few weeks. I was going to wear leggings during the day and jeans or a dress at night. I’m concerned that I will sweat during the day being on the go. Have you ever gotten stuck in this kind of situation where you wish you packed more outfits?
Laurie if your looking for really nice jeans that also has tummy control. Macys has Charter Club Jeans. Iove them because they have patterns and make them look dressy. I work in an office even through jeans are allowed but I still want to look nice
Thanks for the tips. Just a simple question, do compression bags help you pack more clothes or will the suitcase carry the same amount or clothes even when not using the compression bags?
I've found the best way to pack is using Hefty 2.5 gallon zip bags for daily "outfits" fold shirt, shorts/bottoms, undies and socks, push air out, zip, clothes do not wrinkle, take a bag to bathroom each morning and then you have dirty clothes bags. They can hold a lot. It's the only way we'll pack.
I’m from Australia and planning to spend 3 months in Greece with my husband next year. What do l pack for a Europe summer? Melbourne has all weathers in one day regardless of the season. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you xxxBasia
The Mediterranean countries in summer are HOT, sometimes over 100°F/38°C 🥵! Pack light-weight clothes (moisture-wicking if possible) & don’t forget your heavy-duty sunscreen. And have a wonderful time!
Wit & Wisdom jeans are ODDLY TIGHT through the knee/calf. Marnie Goldberg who is a size 2/4 said the same thing, so I know it’s not just the plus sizes- I’ve lost 40lbs and now the waist is falling down but that calf is tight!🤣 If you’re a pear shaped lady I wouldn’t recommend those jeans. They look nice but so uncomfy for pear shapes. You look fab in them though! Thank you for the video.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie i wear the regular length😃I’m telling you, there is an odd tightness through the knee/mid calf🤣. I keep shaking my leg cause it feels so weird. Ah clothing. I went back to NYDJ, expensive but the fit cannot be beat for pear shapes.
@@Natalie_11188 Okay good to know. I just ordered a couple more to try-I noticed that they call them different things. Some are Ab-solution Skinny and some are Ab-solution Ankle Skinny. Very confusing.
I actually under packed for my trip to Atlanta last month, and I was not happy. Next time I bring three pairs of shoes. I packed for spending most of the time in my daughter's air conditioned house and that was good. Then, my sister in law took me out shopping for the day and I felt over dressed compared to her running around in shorts lol. 🤷 I can't win when I go back there...
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie yeah I need to leave a pair of shoes at my daughter's house and maybe an extra set of clothes lol. I already have a beauty box on a shelf in her linen closet so I don't have to bring liquids with me on the plane, other than my hand sanitizer and my hand lotion
Hi Laurie. I'm from Jamaica and I recently traveled to the US for the 1st time. Your video helped me prepare a lot. Thank you. Unfortunately my experience with US customs in Atlanta was terrible. I was taken to a room for a body pat down from head to toe and questioned estensively for almost an hour. That I wasn't prepared for and thought I was gonna be sent back to Jamaica. Is this normal procedure or did I do something wrong?
I think they would be fine. Now the light boots are narrow. I put a foot pad in the bottom of mine for Vermont. Nordstrom has free shipping and returns FYI
