Wish I could paint like you do. But I guess that isn't possible sense we are all different. I just hope one day my paintings will get a lot better in detail and depth. I hope to see more of your paintings to inspire me and I will work on my own works soon. I took a lot of pictures today when we went on a trip to a place here in America called Carmel California. Thanks for the upload.

Andrew Tischler Andrew are you sure that shadow of the tree fitted there ? I think the tree is in a distance that we cant see the shadow on the water like that.(Im talking about first painting)
@THEDUDE912
@THEDUDE912 5 лет назад
That may be pushing it. He's talented but Velasquez or Reubens? umm..no..the Masters weren't masters because they had good technique..they were masters because they ESTABLISHED the technique that subsequent artists benefited from. He's not breaking new ground. In fact none of this has any relevance in the world of art today at all aside from a pretty scene above someone's sofa. It's a man flipping burgers for a dollar or a meditation at best.
@greginguanti2734
@greginguanti2734 5 лет назад
@@THEDUDE912 It has relevance so long as the general public enjoys it. The majority of human beings continue to respond well to this kind of art and tend to reject the new talent-less trends. The exclusive, obnoxious inner circle of the modern "contemporary" art world will attempt to disregard Artists that keep the traditional art forms alive. The beauty of nature and epic landscapes will continue to be appreciated by humans, because it runs deep in our evolutionary history. Those that harness skills of expressing such beauty effectively, such as Andrew, will continue to be appreciated by most of us.

Hello Andrew.....I am a retired professional Director and Consul. Being born in the South Island of NZ as part of my bucket list, I chose learning fly fishing and painting NZ South Island landscapes. One of my greatest successes was when I discovered your videos. I have been an avid fan ever since. You have inspired, motivated and taught me so much. You have given me so much pleasure from learning and progressing knowledge experience and importantly results. Thank you so very very much PS I am retired living on the Kapiti Coast. We are planning a motor home visit back to the South rugged landscape including many of the sites you have painted. I am looking forward to this so much Regards Doug

@fromTheBatCave

Yes! For some reason, landscapes scare me more than any other subject. Mountainous landscapes and seascapes (which seems to be what attracts you anyway) would be my vote. British Columbia or Norwegian coast, if we need to be specific.
@AndrewTischlerArt
@AndrewTischlerArt 7 лет назад
Excellent. So with those subjects in mind I could go for NZ again (because I've been there) and talk about mass, perspective, depth and light. A lot of the same principles will apply. Great suggestion! Thanks Alun!

South Island looks excellent for this purpose. Never been there, now I desperately want to. Once thing I would like you to explain in your DVD. You showed making a series of thumbnails to work out composition, but how did those thumbnails relate to what you could actually see? I mean, where you walking about looking from different angles and sketching them, or were you in the same place but imagining that a mountain was a different shape, I wasn't sure. Just how much do you look to do en plein air, and how much is in the studio. Stuff like that.

Great video from a wonderful channel. Art books have provided me a much-needed escape from real life. I have my easy chair set up with a desk, a lamp, a blanket and a cup of coffee. I spent many hours with dragons, unicorns, space battles, pixies, knights, and now with my National Geographic books, the vast undersea world of the coral reefs. My art books are the best investments I ever made. My 3 favorite books are: - Works of Wonder by Michael Whelan - Infinite Worlds by Vincent DiFate - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson

All i can say is, i wish i had run into your videos 25 years ago...LOL you are an amazing teacher, i have gained an entirely new perspective on landscape and floral painting. I love the orgaized pallet concept. But the blending of earth tone colors and high light colors has eluded me. Most of my paintings tend to be very bright. I fo understand atmospheric perspective and making changes to foreground shadows that push the distant subject back, but your teaching shows me ways to achieve that in a different way. I love it. Looking foward to painting something very different and very original.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I finally picked up a brush at 52 years old after watching my mother paint when I was young. Somehow I managed to find your videos and have consumed them greedily ever since. We're starting tomorrow using your videos with my kids in their homeschooling art classes. 10 of 10, sir. The manner in which you explain what it is that you're doing and why you happen to be doing it, and the simplicity with which you explain everything really makes sense to me. I've ordered a few new colors for my collection of paints based on your colors in your videos and have even written down your color formulae as you talk about them and am using the Gamblin paints since my kids are with me in my office/study where I work and paint. Great stuff overall. Thank you, sincerely.

I have been painting for a very short 3 years or so. I watch many videos as how to paint. Each painting I get better. I think it will take ma many more years to get anywhere close to your level. I love Bob Ross painting and that is where I started. I love to paint but at my age, 65, I don't have much longer to learn. My biggest problem is not being able to draw. I am horrible at it. lol I won't stop though, I love the challenge. Thanks again for your lessons.

Man, between yourself and Michael James Smith, I think I am set! I would love to do what you do! Travelling to stunning parts of this gorgeous country and putting it onto canvas. Last week, I spent some time in Mt Aspiring National Park and walked the Young-Wilkin circuit. The scenery was just mind blowing, and I've spent a fair bit of time in our mountains and special places. Lake Cruicable, in particular, was awe inspiring. The kind of place that makes you feel tiny and insignificant. The sort of place that begs to be put on canvas. I've got plenty of photos from my wanderings of some truly beautiful landscapes, and I hope one day to be good enough at this to do them justice. Hakatere Conservation Area (as unlikely as it may seem) has yielded one of my favourites.Your paintings are just stunning. I'm so pleased to have found both yourself and Michael's tutorials, and I hope that one day, I might be a skerrick of as good as yourselves :)

You must go if you feel you need to. Words cannot say enough about NZ. You will need to take enough materials. The only art shop I found when on my 2nd trip was in Christchurch near the Uni. Make sure you have enough paper, sketch books, and time. To be honest you will never have enough. There is a painting waiting around every turn and twist. I lost count how many times there were several paintings in the 360 degrees of where I was standing. happy travelling.

Hello Andrew! I want to thank you for inspiring me to paint once again. Not only am I inspired to paint, but you've caused me to look at things differently. In the past I only painted portraits. People and animals were my ONLY subjects. I never put them in a field or mountain scene or even in a living room! Well, I did use a park bench and a partial landscape in my son's family portrait, because I used a photo and that's what was in it. Also, because they're my family and I wanted them to have a nice keepsake. But, I'd never considered a landscape or still life as the subject of my paintings. I'm a realist, as you are, and I concentrated on getting a good likeness of my live subjects to the exclusion of anything else. A typical portrait would simply have a colored background, if you get what I'm saying. Watching your tutorials over the last several months has caused me to LOOK at things in a more artistic way. For instance, yesterday I was walking my dog through a field and we came across a bush with varying shades of green and gold leaves and I thought how interesting that would be to paint! The golden leaves of fall would make a nice colorful subject or a great highlight in the background for a portrait! It's a new way of thinking about the outdoors and things in general for me. And, I give credit where credit is due, Andrew. YOU have inspired me to - as you might say - take my art to a new level! That said, it's been so long since I painted my last portrait - 3 or 4 years, I believe - that I'm completely out of oil paints, mediums and my brushes have gotten hard from sitting too long and, I suppose, not cleaning them properly the last time they were used. Perhaps I could bring some of them back to life again using the dish detergent method I watched in one of your tutorials. But, mostly, I felt I needed a new start and bought a lot of new supplies. No, I didn't spend nearly $500! Lol, since I live on Social Security, I had to keep my art budget under $200, but it was barely under, like $180! And, I did need everything I got and then some, but I'm good at mixing my colors, so I purchased just the 3 primaries plus ivory black and lots of titanium white! I noticed you said you'd switched to a lead white, but I'm kind of afraid of lead-based paint and I HOPE titanium white doesn't contain lead, but I've never checked. I'm trying out some Liquin medium, recommended by you, which I'd never used before. I'd always used plain gum turpentine and linseed oil, creating my own mixes. I'm also guilty of mixing so-called "flesh tones" for my subjects, without adding the reds, blues, yellows and greens I've seen you put into a subject's face, so I've decided to try this and see if I can make it work for me, slowly at first. I'd hate to paint a pretty face and have her come out looking like a clown! So, I'm going to keep it subtle, subtle, subtle and re-watch your portrait tutorial of the model Stephanie, before adding any outrageous color combinations. I'm keeping my eyes on the shaded areas of skin to see if I can actually pick up some blues, yellows and greens in them. I should probably re-watch your quick tutorial on "How to Mix Skin Tones," before making a mess of things.I also may try the Photo Shop class at Skill Share, especially if they're still offering 2 months free. Well, I've taken up enough of your time, Andrew, so you can get back to your painting, but I do want to compliment you on your attention to detail, particularly in lighting. I need to set up some sort of lighting in the art-dedicated area of my bedroom, which is all I have for a studio at the moment, but there are a lot of windows in this room. Perhaps you could tell me how to use the natural outdoor lighting coming through these 6 large windows? First, of course, I'll need to remove or pull back the draperies. I have dark, light blocking drapes for those many nights I don't sleep and have to make it up during the day, but the windows are all around the room, so I should be able to light a subject well from any angle, with some recommendations from you! Thanks again for all the great tutorials! They've been an inspiring benefit for many, I'm sure, but they definitely have for me. Sincerely, Shushannah

Hi Andrew ! I had the chance to visit Milford Sound, Glenorchy and all around New Zealand... Back there, my friends an I used to say that no camera picture in the world could give justice to the ridiculous beauty of those landscape and sceneries. But here... Even on a video footage, I can see that justice has been done with your paintings! ^^ Thank you for bringing those memories back... Congratulations on the amazing pieces of Art you create... And thank you once again for sharing these free painting lesson, it's invaluably benefic to the apprentice I am. :) Cheers !
