Kevin always encourages starting with full open on the fluid knob when using full fan width, and then maybe either dialing it back if it seems like too much, or increasing the air pressure to the gun. I'd do the latter first, and see if it still forms a good marquee shape pattern. Many guys report it's best to use the least air pressure possible for flattest, least orange peeled surface. I think it is tricky to balance the two into a sweet spot for each material without loads of previous experience. I've struggled with it just about every time so far. Probably not a bad idea to have a spare fender or some 'junk' body panel you also prepped just to use to dial that in before you actually go to coat the vehicle. No to knock his demonstration here, but for us amateurs cardboard doesn't seem like a good substrate to test fan pattern on since it's a highly porous surface that immediately soaks in the material. It may look fine on the cardboard, but goes on too heavy on the panels, causing the always dreaded runs. Some kind of sheet metal prepped like the vehicle would be better to test with, and use it to test every stage of your process. Give it full coats of each material in the same number of layers for each just as you're applying to the vehicle. Eventually you'll adapt to the particular gun you have and it's tip combos, and just know from previous experiences right where to dial it in with the type of coating each tip is meant for. And, you can always write a log of your spraying sessions to facilitate the old memory. Jot down how many turns out on each knob worked best with each material, along with the temperature and humidity at the time.

You don’t have professionals buying these! They clearly advertise and make this gun for the average guy painting on the weekend.

Some people do prefer to spray Etching Primer first, which is a technique that has been used for years, but you should be fine spraying Epoxy Primer over the bare metal.

DTM - direct to metal. also, etching primer does not etch into plastic filler like it does to metal.

my1pig, he only pulls the trigger as far back as needed. All the paint flow control does is to limit the travel of the trigger. You can do the same thing by modulating trigger-pull. Maybe something left to those who have developed their technique (not me yet).

You can adjust the trigger. If you open the fluid and wind the trigger back it will dump a lot of paint and run out but not all paint sprays good with full fluid metallic paint i will open the fluid then run it in 2 turns.

Make sure to use a moisture separator!

Start on the inner parts first then work your way out. That's probably the best advice I can give you. Turn your fluid needle in so your not pushing out as much fluid.
