Another great video. I just found this channel today. I want to paint my cars in the spring/summer next year. Doing bodywork now. But I want to do it myself and this channel so far has helped me tons. I appreciate you and your great channel. Thank you.
Thanks heeeeeeeeaps for sharing this mate. I have never truly known how to set up a gun properly, but now I do. Thanks for being so informative and explaining all the differences between the test patterns. You can tell just from how you talk about it all that you would be a bloody awesome painter. Cheers my brother, and Happy Christmas.🤙🤙🤙🤙🍺🍺🍺🍺
Great how-to for a newbie, really appreciated the step by step. What impressed me most is your sincerity. This is the only RU-vid series I've seen that every comment has a reply--you REALLY care!!
Excellent Information!!!! I really love how you work with the gun and actually show what you are taling about!!! Thank you...I've learned so much from your channel!!
You're going to hate one of the best paint guns made: The Iwata Supernova. It can't be used with the fan wide open. If you try to use it that way it will split the fan which on the supernova is about three feet wide. 1 3/4 turns out from fully closed fan is perfect. Also, instead of using the cheater valve at the bottom of the gun use a diaphragm regulator like the RTI MR-1. With one of these you can come into the gun at whatever pressure you want and it regulates it to a precise PSI value.
I enjoy watching painting videos yours included. I've been painting, from when gravity guns came out. I just wanted to let you know, in the beginning of video you were getting the fan and fluid nobs mixed up. The side nob is for fan control, fluid control nob adjust needle opening. Keep up the good work.
I have the Ronpeng lvlp spray gun now never used it before but I use a smaller air compressor 26 gallon 5 hp between 5.4-5.6 cfm one day would like to use a bigger air compressor but this year plan on using a exhaust system in garage which haven't used yet plus will be using a high solids clear for the first time.
Interesting that when you turn in on the fan giving it less air the spots got less. I guess it sent more air to the nozzle to help breakup the paint into a finer mist. The fan adjustment is mainly to adjust the width or shape of the spray. I been painting for years and never realized that. Thanks for the video. I learned something new today.
You did a really great job explaining your adjustments technique, I feel like I can do this now. Would it be any different setting up for say a Nason 2K high build primer or different types of paint like a Single Stage like I will be using? Thanks great job.
Awesome video. Te mando saludos de Los Ángeles. Honestamente te quiero dar gracias por tus videos que me están ayudando tanto. Y me encanto que usaste la HUSKY para enseñar que hasta nosotros los pobres podemos pintar también. Cuídate y hasta luego
So on the fan your looking for a nice tight sprey pattern with minimal external like overspray effect and even? I'm learning this myself, also need to talk about air supply as thats where I have already gone wrong, the 1/4 quick couplers were strangling my air supply so much that my gun wouldn't make 10psi wide open, with 1.4 nozzle and pipe lenght, internal diameter and the couplers are important so I found, I'm using 15cfm 100 litre compressor. Good video thou, even cheap guns can do a fantastic job if you know how to set it up.
Hi, when spraying into a small crevice or restoring a wheel where it has deep areas that I need covered with paint or primer, Do you lower the inlet pressure and change the fan shape to narrow or round? Just need some advice please “for tight or small crevices : 1) gun pressure at the inlet 2) size of spray pattern Thank you , love your videos..
cool video, this video is for the newbies and with experience you'll get better and better. so later you can make a smart choice in buying your paint guns you don't need to 500 dollar or more on a paint gun to a fantastic paint finish, but if you do want to spend that kind of money it's up to you, just take of it so it can last you a life time.
the thing I like best about your videos is you explain in detail which makes it more clear to those of us that are not experts Very curious If you could only have one gun for base and clear what gun would you pick ???
iam old school i learned to paint with the mbc deVilbiss spray guns back in the late 80s and early 90s, i don't think ill spend any money on this so called gravity guns and i get fantastic finishing with my guns, anyways great video as always.
So called gravity guns use less air and less paint, are easy to clean so less thinners to waste, also they aren't as cumbersome to handle giving better gun control. If it's just a hobby suction feeds are ok, but professional use no thanks.
Thank you for your hard work on the videos, my question is I want to paint my silverado and my s10 under my enclosed awning, can you recommend a gun and compressor size I can buy and can I use one gun for primer paint and clear cleaning it in-between or should I buy more than one gun thank you
When you say "wide open" do you back the knob (whichever one you're adjusting) until it is unthreaded from the body and then screw it back in a little? Could you go into a little more detail? This video is very helpful. Thank you!
I tried your setup procedure for a cheapo gun for spraying 2k primer, atomization was good but couldn’t get a bigger fan than about 4” , is this the characteristics of the gun ? For my SS paint I will be using a Devilbliss flg5 , never painted before and hoping I get results more to what you show.
Unfortunately you didn't mention your "rule of thumb" for the distance you hold the spray gun from the surface, which I assume can have as much of an effect on the pattern as everything else you mentioned - No?
Thank you for the video Great info my question is how do you compare the iwata ws 400 from all your guns and also I have a chance to buy iwata ws400 evo
So you started at 28 or so psi, what made you choose that psi? Also you mentioned the dv1 what psi would you start at with it? Do you use the gund max recomendation? Just wondering where to start at. Thanks! Awesome teachings!
Thank u for the video it is good info but unfortunately I finish painting my car for the first time I wish I would have watch this video before because I paint my car for the first time with harbor freight gun. Will upload video soon if possible do check it out and let me know how I did it or what's needs to be done on the paint to have better finish.
Love your videos, just found them and I've watched hours already. Couple questions that I can't seem to find answers. 1. What in the gun adjustments causes paint to orange peel? (I'm using correct reducer activator) 2. What do you do.when the paint is really thick? Sometimes I spray rustoleum enamel tractor paint from a gallon can, even when I reduce more than recommended, the paint is so thick I can't get good atomization.
@@PHARRAWAY of, I will check other videos. Part 2 of my oruginal question, thick paint problems...any suggestions? (Other than to quit buying cheap paint lol)
Hi ,, I I can ask ,, I’m about to primer and single stage a frame mostly the front on my 58 Chevy .. metal has bean prepped . Question ,, the frame has so many crevices and under bracket welded on it. I’m sure they dipped the frame in 1958.. What pressure if so should I set when painting around these odd areas like crevices and indentation? Second , fan width ? Anything can help cause I lm trying not to get any runs when I’m hitting these difficult areas .. thank you 🙏
Hi ,, quick question if I may ,, Just sprayed a panel with single stage , had a small sag about 20 inch long right under a crease.. Is it possible to fix it or just re-spray the whole panel ? Is re-spray , would you D/A or wet sand? What grits ? I’m thinking 400-600 disc or 400-600 wet sand. Do I sand the whole panel? Thanks Pharraway!
This may sound like a stupid question; but do these "settings work for "SINGLE-STAGE PAINT?? I will try out your suggested settings of fluid and pattern wide-open and "dial down the pattern from wide open; leaving the fluid wide open, thank,s again PJP
Been watching your videos to help me out with painting my car. I've been buying my tools little by little. Right now I need to buy a Primer spray-gun with a 1.8mm tip size. Out of these 3 which one would you pick: Devilbiss FLG. Husky, Iwata Air Gunsa or is there something within those 3 that you can recommend. Thank you for your input and for all you informative videos.
@@PHARRAWAY thanks for the reply, you would use 29psi and 33 for a non HVLP conventional gun? I heard you say the 28-29 on the video about the HVLP, but you would use the same pressure for a conventional gun?
could you let me know why I get a kind of coarse particles whenever I spray ? It should be smooth but mine is too coarse. is it because of pressure or amount of paint ? what can it be ?
the pressure 25-28 for basecoats worked. but clear coat is still orange peel when i stayed in same pressure after basecoat. Was that why you put 35 for clear coat?
@@PHARRAWAY ok 1.3 too good for sealer base and clear or just base and clear? Also do you know if a gun that works with 6cfm compression trying to paint my car without buying 2000 dollar compressor haha
