Learn how to pitch to a hitter who is crowding the plate. Many pitchers have the wrong mindset about this...in reality, the hitter is screwing himself over and hurting his chances of hitting the ball hard...IF you know how to exploit him.

Last week, my 10yo was pitching (12U 50/70) and I know his coach, and I yelled, pitch it inside. He got the message out and more strikes came. Can’t be afraid to take that part of the plate back

I mean, good result I suppose but yelling instructions/suggestions to your kid while he's pitching is not a thing parents should do. You should reconsider doing that going forward.

Im short so i crowd the plate since i cant reach the outside part of the plate. Only adjustment i make since im on top of the plate is starting super early to get my foot down to give myself a chance to hit that inside pitch. I start super early like yelich from Milwaukee because i have a big stride like him and i feel like im late if i start like most hitters normally would

I would use a 31 when i played NCAA and stand up in the box along with crowding if you tried fastball inside black it was going to be a rope over 3B. Throw a breaking pitch and i put one down pretty consistently. I stood up in the box because i could screen out the catcher on a bunt to the 1b side.

Just a note about why some batters are positioned more to the front of the plate is because catchers will try to crowd the plate as well. I wish I knew better about the rules when I played because I know my swing hit the catcher's glove on, at least, two different occasions and the umpire did not say anything.

i’ve noticed at my age(14) not many kids crowd the plate, but the ones who do struggle to hit outside which is why there on the plate. im the same way i struggle to go oppo so i crowd the plate so it makes it easier and i can still turn on the ball. now im not facing any over powering dudes throwing 90 but i’ve seen a couple dudes sitting 85ish

How do you feel open pitching to batters open stance vs. closed stance. I grew up with some success pitching open stance batters inside anticipating them stepping in on their load and getting jammed. Also had success pitching away to batters with a closed stance as their step foot was already extended thus limiting their power to step in and drive the pitch away. I'd like to know your thinking on throwing to open vs. closed stance batters.

good question. I think you learn to tune it out over time, and just focus on what they do when they've landed. The stance is a bit misleading for open stance guys so you cant jump to conclusions

Problem now days is with all the Armor worn, you try and pitch under the hands and they just lean in and take it off the elbow guard for what is in the strike zone. Under the chin is your only option and that doesn't really work because popular opinion is if you go up high you are the bad guy. Umpires need to call the strike when the hitter gets hit in the strike zone, but they don't even call the strike on the inside when a guys close to the plate (seems they can't understand the strike zone in and out is not about where the batter stands.)

Yeah thats not true at all for 99% of players. Only at the highest levels are players really wearing that much armor where it doesnt matter. Inside pitches still work, especially at amateur level.

What do you think of the rule change that the batter no longer has to make an effort to get out of the way?
@DanBlewett
@DanBlewett 2 года назад
Fine with it. I don’t think the hitter should be obligated to help out the pitcher. If the pitcher doesn’t wanna hit him, don’t hit him. I was a pitcher, I own my mistakes, ya know?
@CarlosLopez-js2oi

It's a mind game you just throw catch with the catcher and also if the batter don't respect you give him a warning in the inside with speed.

Some of us just can’t reach. If a pitcher has no confidence in his control then he can go play right field or something. No need to back hitters off the plate

what you said is nonsense

@@DanBlewett Risking injuring someone on purpose just because you’re insecure about your pitching ability is nonsense

your opinion on this is still nonsense. Pitching inside is not risking injury.
